Celtic Quick News readers have assumed SFA rules apply to all clubs, including Rangers. It is therefore, a surprise to read the BBC report today that the associations lawyers are “unsure” if Articles of Association rule 10.2, which prohibits someone (in this case, Paul Murray) becoming a director of a club if they have previously been a club director “within the five-year period preceding such club having undergone an insolvency event”, which includes administration and liquidation, should it arise.
The SFA are “unsure”. Heaven help us.
The rules are clear, those who have been directors of Rangers during the past five years are not eligible to be a director of a Scottish club without appeal to the SFA board for discretionary dispensation. It is preposterous for the association to be unsure on this matter.
If they are asked to consider Paul Murray as a Fit and Proper person, his record as director of Rangers should be examined. As we explained on Saturday, Murray was director in the spring of 2010 when Rangers were issued with a £24m tax demand plus £12m interest.
Instead of curtailing budget the following season by selling players to mitigate the threat to the club’s survival, the board Murray served on authorised a £4m spend on Nikica Jelavic in August 2010. If they had taken the responsible long-term view, they could have cut budget, realised significant levels of cash, prepared for the outcome of the tax tribunal and seen off any asset-stripping takeover.
The SFA really need to get a grip of their own rules. They appear intent on pretending Scottish football is not in crisis.
The 8th Annual Celtic Quick News Charity Golf Day is booked for Friday, 3rd August 2012 at Aberdour Golf Course in Fife. The night is always over-subscribed, so get your application in early. Costs are £70 for golf including an evening meal and £40 for evening guests only. You can book by emailing Taggsybhoy at cqnopen2012@gmx.co.uk.
Former Celtic defender and current Livingston manager, John Hughes, will join me in speaking after the meal.

Are Sky and BBC Scotland really both broadcasting the Hibs V Aberdeen Semi final and ignoring ours ?
starryplough.
Interesting stance from Ogilvie.
If I remember correctly,a total of £22.7 million was paid out over 5 years in EBT’s during Ogilvie’s tenure in a board position where exposure to this sort of expendtiture would have been part of his remit.
Ach,right enough,maybe he just forgot

Don’t you think it’s just a case where, the SFA like to, give off the impression that they’re – unsure ? :o)
P.S. Did the SFA find the old SNP racist-evidence shredder ?:o)

A message from Dons Supporters Together….
“Fans will be well aware of the current financial problems suffered by Rangers FC in the last few weeks. DST consider it pertinent to offer their views on this matter.
DST’s stance on the matter is uncompromising. The sporting integrity of Scottish Football is critical. We want our club to take the moral high ground by insisting that all member clubs play by the rules, comply with the law of the land as well as the game, and fulfil their obligations to other clubs and to society as a whole. DST fully believes in these principles and is sure that all right minded supporters will feel likewise. We wish to send a clear message to the board and management of AFC that we will not condone any departure from these principles, and that they should not be party to any future arrangement which allows a club to renege on its legal and moral obligations.
Rangers led most of the top Scottish clubs into ruinous debt by their unsustainable overspending from the Souness years onwards, and the creation and structure of the SPL has institutionalised the unfair distribution of wealth within our game. Now is the time to challenge the OF’s stranglehold to ensure a more equitable league structure and format.
The OF need the rest of Scottish football much more than we need them. Without a league of opponents to compete with, they cannot survive. The media argument that the OF subsidise the other teams and keep them afloat is spurious. The reverse is in fact true, since they get a totally disproportionate share of the money in the game. This unfair subsidy must cease immediately.
This is watershed for Scottish football. DST believes that the supporters of AFC and supporters of every SPL club should now send a strong and clear message to their club’s directors that we expect and demand change to the structure of the game as a whole. It is in every club’s interest (including the OF) to level the financial playing field, and to have 2/3rd majority voting in the SPL.
Clubs must also find ways of improving the product on the park by increasing variety, competition and entertainment, thus providing better value for money.
DST will continue to monitor events and will be collecting comments from members soon.”

He’s also tweeting away, sticking it to the SFA about Campbell Ogilvie’s involvement in the investigation into Rangers behaviour. I can’t help but draw the analogy of a police officer being transferred to Internal Affairs only to find his old squad coming under investigation for corruption. Would he be allowed to investigate? Would he be allowed to select who investigated his old chums? Would he even be allowed to carry on with his duties in areas away from his old stomping ground?

A must read … this guy is doing good … keep it up Mr Thompson

Hi Paul,
Didn’t Stewart Regan state last week when critised over the SFA’s failure to “out” CW as a FandPP, that it was the reponsibility of the clubs to ensure they are compiliant.
How are they supposed to do this when the SFA themselves can’t give guidance? Even when it is one of their clearer articles.

cheers for that. Seen a post by someone last night stating the other game was on both channels.
Anyone following Alex Thomson’s Twitter? Seems the SFA just called him a “liar” and hung up on him.
Who says they have nothing to hide?
I have sent a letter to UEFA outlining there sheer incompetence borderline cheating that is now engulfing our national bodies.
Absolutely INCREDIBLE!

This part causes me some concern. The SFA have a tendency to demonstrate ‘dispensation’ when only one club is concerned.

Alex Thomson is an award winning journalist who has covered conflicts around the world. Embarrassing for the SFA.
Mr Thomson is no mug by the looks of things perhaps he is inspired by Woodward and Bernstein!!

obonfanti1888- I am, Alex Thomson sure has the scent of blood in his nostrils!
so the sfa are hiding under the stairs from the big bad telly man
hehehe stupid huns
This is getting ridiculous (perhaps my exasperation is 15 years late).
PM, and anybody who was a director of Rangers between 14th February 2007 and 14th February 2012, is not a fit and proper person to be a director of a football club in Scotland. It is fairly clear cut is it not? Why should any special dispensation be awarded to someone who was a Director when EBTs, DOS and (allegedly) two contracts for players were used? The SFA seem to be saying all they will ask of a new director is “is this person a fit and proper person to operate a football club in Scotland”. If that person ticks “yes” notwithstanding the rules, the SFA does absolutley bugger all about investigating the veracity of the declaration. You could not make this up.
The SFA closing ranks to help the Huns???

In the stripping and re-awarding of titles debate I’m heavily in favour. It’s not because I doubt we would soon overhaul them on a level playing field. I consider it a distinct possibility that Rangers and the powers that be are so close that when Rangers go down they’ll take the SPL and SFL with them. UEFA were on the verge of chucking out the Swiss FA in a game of brinkmanship. What could they do if the line has already been crossed?
Stewart Regan now asking Alex T who he spoke to at the SFA??
The plot thickens!!
Journalist: are you aware of the minituae of the your rule book?
SFA: yes down to the smallest split of a baw hair.
Journalist: what about its application to tge sons of william…
SFA: aaaaahhhhh! (sudden bout of amnesia, a fugue moment, tabula rasa like concusion all rolled into one) who am I? Where am I? Who are you? What does it mean? Rules…what rules?!
Well after taking over HMRC,The BBC and UEFA it now appears the evil timmy conspiracy has infiltrated Channel 4
Is there no end to it
Auldheid,
whats you gut feeling on regan now :o)
hopefully we can put to bed any notion they were trying to clean up their act.
Hopefully Mr Alex Thomson is not derailed from his enquiries by unknown or invisible obsticles.
Mr Thompson obviously got through to the janitor.
Question. If UEFA get involved and ban all scottish involvement in european football until the truth is out would that be viewed as acceptable?

Stunning perceptiveness!
Hamiltontim – He is a journalist from Channel 4 and is asking the questions any good reporter would. He start off by asking what non-old firms thought of rangers and is now moving onto the SFA and rightly asking is Campbell Olgilve not conflicted!
interesting times ahead

Is Campbell Ogilvie a ‘Fit & Proper Person’ to hold office at the SFA?

C4 journalist. A St Mirren supporter (heard that one before) He asked for tweets from non-Celtic Rangers fans about what they thought of the Rangers debacle. From that he started a blog and has attracted intrest in his Twitter account. Don’t know if his work could ultimately end up on TV.

Is the investigation into the 2 contracts been done by the spl ?
If so they should bu asking R C Ogilvie for answer ASAP .
Did he have an ebt ?
Did he see the ebt contracts ?
Did he sign off ebt contracts ?
Where ebt contracts forwarded to the sfa ?
As you used to say “shine light into the darkest corners”
If he will not reply to the spl he would be withholding evidence IMHO.
