Celtic Quick News readers have assumed SFA rules apply to all clubs, including Rangers. It is therefore, a surprise to read the BBC report today that the associations lawyers are “unsure” if Articles of Association rule 10.2, which prohibits someone (in this case, Paul Murray) becoming a director of a club if they have previously been a club director “within the five-year period preceding such club having undergone an insolvency event”, which includes administration and liquidation, should it arise.
The SFA are “unsure”. Heaven help us.
The rules are clear, those who have been directors of Rangers during the past five years are not eligible to be a director of a Scottish club without appeal to the SFA board for discretionary dispensation. It is preposterous for the association to be unsure on this matter.
If they are asked to consider Paul Murray as a Fit and Proper person, his record as director of Rangers should be examined. As we explained on Saturday, Murray was director in the spring of 2010 when Rangers were issued with a £24m tax demand plus £12m interest.
Instead of curtailing budget the following season by selling players to mitigate the threat to the club’s survival, the board Murray served on authorised a £4m spend on Nikica Jelavic in August 2010. If they had taken the responsible long-term view, they could have cut budget, realised significant levels of cash, prepared for the outcome of the tax tribunal and seen off any asset-stripping takeover.
The SFA really need to get a grip of their own rules. They appear intent on pretending Scottish football is not in crisis.
The 8th Annual Celtic Quick News Charity Golf Day is booked for Friday, 3rd August 2012 at Aberdour Golf Course in Fife. The night is always over-subscribed, so get your application in early. Costs are £70 for golf including an evening meal and £40 for evening guests only. You can book by emailing Taggsybhoy at cqnopen2012@gmx.co.uk.
Former Celtic defender and current Livingston manager, John Hughes, will join me in speaking after the meal.

Hamiltontim – seems he is just doing what any reporter would do and sniff out a story.
it makes for interesting reading and i think it highlights the fact that the huns have no friends amoung the fans….the boardrooms are a different matter.
Its all getting really messy for the Orcs and SFA.
Now the South African tax man is looking into the Orcs fakeover pledge by Dodgy Dave King; from @mikefstv on twitter
This is getting better and better.
Dear RC Ogilvie,
Did you have an EBT when you were at Rangers?
Did you know that Rangers players had EBTs?
If not, why not?
the games afoot
Good Article, Paul.
However, I can’t see why you’re so surprised really. What you say of course is perfectly correct, but we all know, or should know, the SFA and all’ it’s other guises are only here to look after the interests of Protestant Scotland and rainjurs are at the forefront of that. Of course they are unclear as to the rules because they bloody well know the consequence of the same rule. But they will huff and puff and send out all sorts of ambiguous horse-Kak set against smoke and mirrors so that everyone will be so confused they will end up with hun being unofficial champions again!! Cringeworthy stuff but reality nonetheless.
Hail Hail

Credit where credit’s due! This is a massive leap forward in Scottish journalism – until today the prime objective has been to avoid associating the word “Rangers” with any of the 1000 billion crimes committed by that “great institution’s” directors/ board members, employees, players, general staff, and last but not least, supporters.
But I fear that BBC fellow will get a rap in the knuckles for this.
Would bet that it was wee Daryl Broadfoot who answered that phonecall from the C4 guy! Diddums
Can’t the footballing governing bodies, the press and those politicians who comment on the RFC situation just get a bit of integrity for goodness sake!
Until we see a fair application of the SPL and SFA rules consistent with past precedents in relation to Rangeds then we’re left to conclude that SFA + SPL + MSM + political establishment = RFC protection racket, Scotland’s very own footballing / cultural (euphemistic!) Cosa Nostra.
I’ve suddenly got an image of this lot galloping into meetings banging their coconut shells together; very Pythonesque these Bloo Knights!

I have to confess at being more than a little surprised by the response of non Celtic fans to the hun situation. I’d expected Aberdeen, Hibs and possibly Dundee Utd supporters to be of a similar mindset to us. However, it would appear, from what I’ve heard and read, that there is a growing groundswell amongst the fans of other SPL clubs that there must be a sufficient and appropriate punishment to meet the crimes of the last decade.
Persuading the chairmen that the this is the correct and justified course of action is another matter all together.
Is Alex Thomson or Thommo to his mates the new hunskelper? Go get get them Thommo!!!!!

Brilliant, Paul, don’t allow the Cheats one inch to wriggle out of this.
On an unrelated matter (pretending that any matter can be truly unrelated to the famous Glasgow Celtic), does anyone know of a trustworthy and affordable web-designer? Perhaps email mr_larry_reid@yahoo.co.uk if you do.
This Bhoy needs some help to get his honest endeavour off the ground. If I make a success of it, I will pay my taxes.

TBB’s piece from Saturday would be good background for Alex Thompson. Does anyone know if he has seen it / been sent it ???

Hugh Adam says everyone in the Rangers boardroom knew. This means Campbell Ogilvie knew there was mischief afoot at the day job when he donned his SFA hat. It means that, even if it wasn’t he who rubber-stamped Rangers’ suitability to misrepresent Scotland in European competition, he knew that Rangers ought not to have received that approval.
If it comes down to Hugh’s word against Campbell’s, Hugh does have the disadvantage of actually having a first name for a first name, but it defies logic that the secretary of Rangers should not know enough about what was going on to recognise a conflict. It’s no shock that he did nothing about it and just pretended all was well, but he must have known in his heart of hearts that this was coming back to bite him one day.
Did Val Doonican not sing about an old goat?
Very fit and proper .

Couldn’t argue with the thrust of your point but I have watched a 100% Masonic clique unravel and it is the funniest thing. They stick together like limpets until one breaks away –in the case I saw, the police had arrested 2 of a club committee who had been embezzling and the other ten then all started talking to save their own skins.
“I only did it a wee bit! They made me do it! I thought it was legal! etc. etc.”
The saying about “when thieves fall out” applies to the brethren more than ordinary folks.
