SFA walk away in face of Neil Lennon’s witnesses

208

Neil Lennon decided to accept his two game touchline ban for comments made after Celtic were not awarded a penalty in the closing minutes of the League Cup final against Kilmarnock when Anthony Stokes, clean through on goal, was tripped.

This was a hugely frustrating incident which had a critical bearing on the final.  The SFA found Neil in breach of rule 68: “Making comments in an interview which criticise the performance of a match official in such a way as to indicate bias or incompetence.”  It’s worth pointing out that Neil suggested the referee’s decision was “criminal”, not biased or incompetent.

The other matter the Celtic manager was there to face was charges in relation to his conduct at Ibrox last month, when he was sent to the stand at half time for allegedly breaching rule 203: “No member of Team Staff shall commit Misconduct at a match, including but not limited to committing acts of the kind described in the Schedule of Offences in Annex C.”

After the game Neil Lennon said, “[The referees] are saying one thing; I’ve got witnesses to say another.”

On reviewing the evidence the SFA decided against applying a punishment while issuing a truly memorable statement, saying the will impose: “no further sanction on the basis that the half-game served out-with the technical area was sufficient”.

By the sound of it Neil was not bluffing when he said he had witnesses to counter evidence from the referee and fourth official.  Under the circumstances any reasonable man could postulate his persecution was personal.

Perhaps the Scottish justice secretary should consider adding a fourth option for juries in burglary trials: guilty, not guilty, not proven and already punished as he had to hand the goods back.

More later on some truly remarkable Celtic supporters and the other matter as the crescendo builds.

    Nobody is buying before being absolutely certain about the size of Hector’s Bill.

    Nobody can buy without reaching an agreement re the cost of Craig Whyte’s 85 %.

    The man who paid £ 1 will be the last to walk.

    A truly fabulous mess . It will get even messier.

    I’ve sent an email expressing my concern regarding the number of bidders who have complained about Duff & Phelps.

    The support is in meltdown today with Bill Ng pulling out and giving D+P both barrels on his way out.

    Your chaps have dithered for weeks and the distinct impression is they are actively courting liquidation.

    I suggest you get this sorted today because liquidation is simply not an option for Rangers and will not be accepted.

    I do think NL needs to let others speak his mind and distance himself from referees. Nothing good comes out of yesterday. There will be refs with a grudge and our manager in the stand is not a good idea.

    I would much rather comments on refs were not made in heat of moment but somehow leaked in a way our people dont end up in stands.

  8. Media Release – Rangers Football Club

    Mr Bill Ng and his Consortium have today announced their withdrawal from the bidding process for Rangers FC.

    Dear Friends from the Media and all the true blue Rangers fans,

    With a deep sense of regret and with empathy to Fellow GERS, we hereby announce our decision not to continue with the pursuit of Rangers Football Club.

    Recent developments in the bidding process, with unwarranted and unexplained delays, have prompted our withdrawal from the bidding process.

    After lengthy negotiations with a number of key stakeholders, we have serious concerns over the deliverability of the shares on offer to gain control of the club, in a time frame that will allow us to exit the administration via CVA.

    Exiting via CVA has always been, not only our preferred option but, the only option we and especially the Fans would countenance to protect the history of this Great Club.

    We would like to highlight that we have become increasingly uncomfortable and frustrated with the process dealing with Duff & Phelps, and the length of time that it has taken to reach this stage. As of today, there is no indication of a preferred bidder.

    We have also noted the ever increasing uncertainties and complexities in the bidding process. Such situation has made the bidding process untenable and with great uncertainties.

    We may re-launch our bid if the Administrators fail to reach any agreement with the current bidders for Rangers.

    We reiterate that our belief in Rangers as a Club has not wavered.

    We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to all friends in the Media (both internationally and domestically) and Rangers’ Fans worldwide for the enormous, generous and heartfelt support that they have shown to us and to our bid. It has been an extremely meaningful for our Consortium in the last few months.

    Based on the constant uncertainties surrounding this Great Club and the complexities of the bid, we would now say that, we are only able to continue as Rangers’ supporters in the Far East.

    Our support for this Great Scottish Institution will continue and we hope to fly the Scottish flag sooner than later in the Far East and especially, within our very own S.League community.

    Yours Sincerely,

    Bill Ng

  10. Philbhoy - It's just the beginning! on

    I am not up to scratch with all the financial goings on at Morder.

    Maybe one of you financial guys will be able to help.

    If Ng have now walked away does that now mean that the previous offer of 4 ginger bottles could have a realistic chance of success?

  11. Now they are suggesting an “Occupy Ibrox” should be arranged.

    Seriously….

    Just when I thought these people could not get any stupider.

  12. I wonder how Dingwall imagines those comments can help.

    What does he mean that liquidation will not be accepted? Does it just mean that if Duff and Phelps can’t make all the nasty stuff go away, they had better go and find somebody who can?

    There’s a brilliant line from my favourite novel that sums this up. I’m off to find it for yeez before returning to the grindstone.

  15. Paul….

    re Neil’s hearing yesterday….

    It appears that he has accepted a ‘guilty’ verdict re ibrox. The lack of sanction speaks volumes and doesn’t look good on the match officials.

    It looks as if Neil and Celtic had more room to push….decline the ‘plea bargain’…..go public with testimony.

    We may be playing a longer game here. It will be interesting to see how his remaining charges are dealt with. Hoping out loud for a decent refereeing performance….would be surprised if that stuck….given that we will be able to prove that others have said the same thing without being charged.

    Claiming that this stuff is ‘personal’….would be interested to see our defence on this one. Consider…..

    Dougie lied to Neil;

    Dallas went on TV on the monday and lied about the lie to Neil;

    The SFA issued a suspension to Neil that broke their own rules and had to be overturned;

    The SFA broke their own rules by having Peat participate in Neil’s hearing;

    At ibrox, it looks like officials lied about what Neil said.

    Looks pretty personal to me…..

  16. They really still think they’re above the law. I might rob a bank today and tell the cops that I simply shall not accept arrest or prosecution, because…well…it jist cannae happen…right!!

    Just to be clear. I don’t have any secret info on that. I’m just suggesting that when he wakes up and finds out he’s the last man standing on deadline day, he’ll gie it a bodyswerve. Which is what I believe CW and D&P want.
