SFA’S OWN GOAL OVER COLE

1

ASTOUNDINGLY, Motherwell’s Devante Cole has escaped any further action after catching Ismaila Soro on the chest with a kick-out at Parkhead on Saturday.

The striker was on the ground after losing possession to the Celtic midfielder when he clearly kicked his opponent with a flying foot during the fading moments of the champions’ 2-1 win.

Referee Nick Walsh chose merely to flash a yellow card at Cole when it looked a straight red was inevitable for such a wayward action.

Former English Premier League and FIFA-listed match official Mark Halsey – who reviewed the incident – insisted it was an “absolutely clear red card”, as CQN reported.

He felt the player should face retrospective action from the SFA disciplinary panel, but both Walsh and his assistant were on the spot and saw the incident in its entirety – so, on this occasion, the matter will not be progressed, according to the Scottish Sun.

CQN stated yesterday that this has been a bewildering season of strange decision-making by the SFA.

This most recent judgement does not alter our thinking one little bit.
