SFL delivers as SPL Ltd facing insolvency

1374

The Scottish Football League today placed an upper limit on which division Sevco can play in next season – their Third.  We must now wait on the company providing sufficient information to complete their application to the SFL and for membership of the Scottish FA.  Although many Rangers fans want Sevco to join the Third Division, chief exec Charles Green was clearly hoping to start life higher up the food chain.

The overwhelming nature of this verdict indicates the solidarity between clubs and fans, throughout the divisions, on how our sport is governed.  This is a good thing but it leaves one burning question on the table:

Is the Scottish Premier League insolvent?

Last week SPL chief exec Neil Doncaster told SFL clubs that the Premier League would be unable to meet its contractual obligations if they did not vote Sevco into the First Division.  Unless this was a shameless lie designed to bully clubs into giving Doncaster what he wanted, the Scottish Premier League Ltd should seek to appoint an administrator without delay.

You can ignore comments about league reconstruction at some unspecified point in the future, Doncaster told us last year that “those who want 16 teams in the top flight are deluding themselves.”

The Scottish Football League does not need the SPL, or its money, to continue to thrive as a community-based sporting entity.  They will flourish.  What happens to the SPL remains to be seen.

As we have observed once or twice before, M. Platini, where are you?  We need the football world to assist with the survival of the game in one of its historic heartlands.

I think the SFL clubs expect a fight!

Its like the Black Knight battle in Monty Python’s Holy Grail, John Brown being the armless, legless knight.

  4. Canny believe the SFL accepted their application to join them.( snigger snigger)

I would have them lining up next season against Linlithgow Rose and Broxburn Athletic.

    Dirty rotten cheats!

This better not be the end of the matter as I look forward to hearing about the ongoing criminal investigation and the withdrawl of titles won fraudulently.

Cant see how they can simply ride rough-shod over the wishes of the clubs and supporters.

I still think that government has a big hand in this – but it could backfire on them spectacularly if they arent careful. Is it worse for Alec salmond to have huns in Div 3 or no football at all in Scotland during his watch? Tough one to call Alex – but you might just be heading off down the wrong road…

It’s bollox. Who would do this? The SFA’s Professional Game Board administers the Game at senior level, representing all 42 senior clubs. 36 of those clubs have told Sevco where reality starts. The SFA otherwise has no jurisdiction over SFL matters.

Stewart Regan might be desparate to dig himself out of the hole he dug with the comfort he gave Sevco, but the SFA as a body has no truck with his ideas.

Know this mate, the hurt that you are feeling, well you are not alone. The hurt that you are feeling might never go away. I hope it mellows and becomes a constant companion because it’ll be a constant reminder to you of the depths of your affection and a measure of the man you are.

I know after nearly twenty years I still hurt and I wouldn’t want it any other way and I know I have more hurts to bank yet.

    Chin up mate.

  8. I can’t see how Sevco can survive playing at the big hoose in Div3. The costs would be so prohibitive and theres no guarantee whatever Sevco team goes out will be guaranteed to get promoted. A Scottish winter at grounds like Peterhead, Elgin and Montrose will not be easy. :))

The Big Hoose must be under serious threat of being sold.

  10. Anyway….the doorman functions performed by Sleekit Sally confirm him as mere flunky to Chucky G’s circus of financial farce.

Nasty company. Nasty peepil. As was,as is,as will always be.

I’ve just explained to B/T why I never answered the phone, his explanation was correct,New phone number, forgot to pass it on to anyone,SKY’s fault?.

The reason I haven’t been reading the blog today is quite easy to explain,I was taking advantage of a dry day in the weather window and decided to cut my grass,as I was about to proceed a delivery of two cases of wine arrived,I took them in and took two bottles out got a nice glass and went out to mow the lawn,it usually takes just under an hour but for some reason it took a few hours longer today,I’m now a bit happy with the wine down my throat and after reading the blog I’m in ecstasy, and it will get better as the night goes on.

Thanks for thinking of me on my birthday,I try to forget it but others won’t allow me to forget,my first best wishes was from Clyde 1 at two minutes past midnight,I know I rarely listen too them but it’s handy for Celtic News, although they are loathe to giving out good news about Celtic.

Friday the thirteenth supposed to be unlucky for some, But it has been a lucky birthday for me this year,I’ll mail you my new number, just in case it’s required.

I’m doing something that I shouldn’t do,that is using this site as a personal message board, but I have a plan,I have been unindated with greeting from a good many folk on here,(I never knew I was liked so much by my fellow posters),there are so many sending their wishes I’d just like to thank everyone who sent them to me,that’s me using CQN for CQN business,

    Thank you everyone.

  12. Any remaining shreds of integrity will be swept away if they try to undo today’s decision.

Regan, Doncaster and Ogilvie should have gone long ago anyway and surely calls will now be made for their dismissal.

  14. A rangers supporter on facebook “We got what we wanted, Division 3! No one can have any gripes with us when we eventually get back to the SPL. We were treated the same as Livi and Gretna so that should be the matter resolved. We can all now get back to the football” All responses from those of shared loyalties are agreeing with this.

SPL, SFA, Bomber, MSM should TAKE NOTE OF THIS.

Even the Rangers fans don’t want tarred by some dodgy backroom deal to shuffle Sevco up the leagues.

(Not sure I agree with “the same as Livi and Gretna” but I’ll let it slide :-) )

Who was the wee bummer Brown lookalike who appeared to be representing “Rangers” …whoever they are

  16. I mentioned a week or so ago about why i think Reagan + Co were so desperate to shoehorn SevCo into Div 1

Him + Doncaster both know Green’s backers would pull out if Div 3 became reality.

Reagan now knows there is a very good chance of no SevCo at all next season unless he takes drastic action

An action that will fail by the way

  17. Sky Sports would like to apologise to all subscribers for wrongly advertising they could watch Rangers in 3D. They meant Rangers in D3.

In reality Jim White on sky sports news looked as though he was finding it difficult to talk about it. When it came back from the news item about them in D3 it looked as though he had been crying.

  18. “Some things never change.”

Loyalist marchers play/sing “Famine Song” while provocatively circling outside a Catholic Church during Orange Order Parade, New Lodge Area, Belfast, 12th July 2012. Then attack the person taking the video.

This video is worth more than a thousand words to describe the triumphalism inherent in the loyalist/orange orders in Ireland & Scotland.

If Regan and Doncaster even attempt to overrule the wishes of the overwhelming majority of Scottish clubs, it would be a major mistake – even by their own shoddy standards.
