SFL delivers as SPL Ltd facing insolvency

1374

The Scottish Football League today placed an upper limit on which division Sevco can play in next season – their Third.  We must now wait on the company providing sufficient information to complete their application to the SFL and for membership of the Scottish FA.  Although many Rangers fans want Sevco to join the Third Division, chief exec Charles Green was clearly hoping to start life higher up the food chain.

The overwhelming nature of this verdict indicates the solidarity between clubs and fans, throughout the divisions, on how our sport is governed.  This is a good thing but it leaves one burning question on the table:

Is the Scottish Premier League insolvent?

Last week SPL chief exec Neil Doncaster told SFL clubs that the Premier League would be unable to meet its contractual obligations if they did not vote Sevco into the First Division.  Unless this was a shameless lie designed to bully clubs into giving Doncaster what he wanted, the Scottish Premier League Ltd should seek to appoint an administrator without delay.

You can ignore comments about league reconstruction at some unspecified point in the future, Doncaster told us last year that “those who want 16 teams in the top flight are deluding themselves.”

The Scottish Football League does not need the SPL, or its money, to continue to thrive as a community-based sporting entity.  They will flourish.  What happens to the SPL remains to be seen.

As we have observed once or twice before, M. Platini, where are you?  We need the football world to assist with the survival of the game in one of its historic heartlands.

vclxi – NewTeam in SFL3. They are just Jambos without the bus fare.

    They wish.

The Jambos have a rich and proud history of competing in the top flight of Scottish football. They’re the current Scottish Cup winners and have one of the strongest squads in Scotland.

Sevco 5088, on the other hand, has a bike. (thumbsup)

So does todays vote mean that it is now 100% certain that sevco will be playing in the SPL next season?

Monday should be an interesting day.

Maybe he has taken a leaf out of the boards book and adopted the motto

    Silence is Golden”

What has happened today is that the SFL clubs have ignored pressure from the SFA and inducements from the SPL and acted in their own interests and in the interests of sporting integrity, which fortunately on this occasion coincide.

There are those, like yourself, who consider that the Celtic board are so incompetent and impotent that they had no influence over how the SFA and SPL approached this whole matter. I hold the Celtic board in higher regard than do you and those like you. I appear to be in a minority in that regard.

Many of us on this blog are of an age to have seen Communism, Capitalism and Rangers fail in a brief period in our oh-so short life time. Who would have thunk it!!!

  12. Why are Green and Moisty STILL claiming that they and the the SFL clubs are victims of Regan & Doomcasters “gerrymandering” when they have secretly been in cahoots together. We all know their lying.

This raises some yet again some serious questions. Are Regan and Doomcaster fully aware that they are the scapegoats for this ongoing plan of deception?

Why was Wiggy making veiled threats today AFTER the vote?

There does indeed seem to be some kind of sting in play here. #shockhorror

I agree mate, Scotland’s football supporters, including those of Kilmarnock, did Scotland prouder than I had EVER hoped for.

I think the way things have gone is indicative of the way things might be if only authority lost its prejudices and fears and conducted itself in office with courage and fairness for the good of the nation overall. I’m talking about the courts, the banks, commerce, industry, councils and politicians whichever set of overalls the deem to wear.

And bringing it back to football… the referees. Dallas has gone and Dallas is rising. Football, all football, must make noise for a constant level playing field. We can’t go backwards now.

That is the way I see it at this time of the morning after a fair few whiskys and a bottle of red.

    carpe diem mate, carpe diem.

Seems that you envisage that the SPL will fail to survive in its current form or in any form at all

Like it or lump it Celtic FC plc is a stakeholder in the SPL . If the SPL folds do Celtic and other member clubs have to apply for membership of the SFL and if so does it go to a voteas to which division they start off in

ongoing police investigation is no reason for the sfa/ spl to do no investigation of their own with regards the dual contracts etc… it is common place to have criminal investigation and civil investigation running at the same time about the same thing. the nature and reason for the investigation into oldco are completely different and i dont think the police investigation will be prejudiced by the spl/ sfa dual contract investigation.

  18. I am assuming the vote today was a secret ballot, not that matters in the grand scheme of things but I would love to know who it was that wanted them banished to the same planet as referred to winninggemmell that Sally and Charlie live on…the Club that voted them gone should be applauded and given our full support

Friday the 13th 2012 a momentus day, the day that the SFL grew a set and dislodged the dead club from their perch and have assumed the mantle of being the fabric of Scottish Society/Football.

It will be interesting to see what strip they play in next season and what they will be called. Irn-Bru who sponsor the Third Division could offer an apt name from their recent advertisement…

    Keep the Faith!

    Hail Hail!

  19. Viewfaethewindae, what now indeed. We could be in for some interesting months ahead.

mickbhoy1888, I don’t see anyone applying for membership of the SFL. If the SPL goes into insolvency the game needs someone to step forward to plug the gap and do a deal that allows everyone to get what the want, or need, as Mick Jagger may have put it.

Keeping busy … doing my scuba diving course ….Lost a bit of weight … getting back in shape (I guess I have to do that now that I’m single again! bugger!)… although, I’m starting my chef’s program in September, so, I suspect I could be putting some of it right back on!

Funny enough, now that mum and I are both ‘orphans’, she and I have kind of adopted each other, and are sort of becoming pals – sort of like dad and I were. its actually quite nice. She came into TO last night and is going to stay with me for a few weeks. Not sure I’ll manage to convince her to come to the Celtic club, mind you, but I’ll work on it!. Otherwise, I’ll be coming up to the club more often when the new season starts to catch up.
