SFL delivers as SPL Ltd facing insolvency

1374

The Scottish Football League today placed an upper limit on which division Sevco can play in next season – their Third.  We must now wait on the company providing sufficient information to complete their application to the SFL and for membership of the Scottish FA.  Although many Rangers fans want Sevco to join the Third Division, chief exec Charles Green was clearly hoping to start life higher up the food chain.

The overwhelming nature of this verdict indicates the solidarity between clubs and fans, throughout the divisions, on how our sport is governed.  This is a good thing but it leaves one burning question on the table:

Is the Scottish Premier League insolvent?

Last week SPL chief exec Neil Doncaster told SFL clubs that the Premier League would be unable to meet its contractual obligations if they did not vote Sevco into the First Division.  Unless this was a shameless lie designed to bully clubs into giving Doncaster what he wanted, the Scottish Premier League Ltd should seek to appoint an administrator without delay.

You can ignore comments about league reconstruction at some unspecified point in the future, Doncaster told us last year that “those who want 16 teams in the top flight are deluding themselves.”

The Scottish Football League does not need the SPL, or its money, to continue to thrive as a community-based sporting entity.  They will flourish.  What happens to the SPL remains to be seen.

As we have observed once or twice before, M. Platini, where are you?  We need the football world to assist with the survival of the game in one of its historic heartlands.

  1. How many players are there in Greens team?

Have they applied for an extension to the season yet, I think they might need it TAL.

  2. My money’s on Cowdenbeath being behind the secret vote, and voting Green and co out, so that they can crudely metamorphisize into Cowdenhun FC and then exterminate zombie fc. Super Metamorph Hun v Zombie hun. Great movie that.

“Have they got enough cash for two months?? ”

Possibly not. But the best case scenario for them is surviving for that long.

More players are likely to leave the Sevco set-up in the next week. None of the experienced players, who have been earning upwards of 10k-a-week will be willing to accept a wage of several hundred quid. I seriously doubt there will be any more season tickets sold and they have to maintain a ground that holds 50,000 – costly business.

The first Ramsdens Cup game is in two weeks. Will they even have 11 players for that?

Bomber Broon is due to issue another rallying call, which should lead to open warfare. Aye. Life is good.

    from BBC site:1503:

Rangers, on the club website, said they faced an “uncertain” future.

The club added: “Now understood that on the back of a briefing SPL chief executive Neil Doncaster and SFA counterpart Stewart Regan gave to clubs last week that the SPL will introduce a plan for SPL 2 – which would include Rangers – and invite existing Division One members to join.”

Read that last sentence again, Sevco have just been told they’re going to have to apply for DIV 3, is this sentence likely to:

    a) ingratiate SEVCO with those who are considering an application despite the fact that they don’t have accounts for the past three years; a registered venue; registered players; proof of solvency

    b) mightily p1ss off the people who are considering the above application?

SEVCO seem determined not to be playing in ANY division next year, soapy souter calling for a boycott of away grounds in Div 3 just seems to put the tin lid on it!

Waiting for the statement from cee lo which begins: ‘It is with the deepest regret…’ Kerching!!!!

When my grandad passed, I got his union cards and his rosary … (he was on old school lefty, but my gran wouldn’t marry him unless he went to mass, and after he married her, he went almost every day of his life)… the cards I had framed, where they now hang with pride on my living room wall, while I never left the house without his rosary …. when my dad passed, my mum gave me dad’s rosary, and it now goes with me everywhere …. nice to have a bit of him with me always.

I have my own beefs with Ernie, but he is man enough to agree to meet me and over a couple of beers we would talk it out. We might not walk away agreeing with each other but I’m sure we’d walk away understanding each others point of view a wee bit more symaphetically.

I have quite a bit of empathy with what he has been saying tonight. I haven’t gone all the way back to read all that he has said though.

But for any to dare damn him hun just because he has reservations over the performance of our board.

I’ll let you into a wee secret, I read every one of his posts, I read, and I mean read all neganons posts, I read all DonegalDanny’s posts, even madmitch. I didn’t always agree with what they were saying and I often had heated exchanges but never once did I bounce past their posts and never once did I ever doubt that the affection I have for my club was equalled if not bettered by each and every one of them.

The blog needs honest posters who blog under their name and call it as they see it, whether I or anybody else agrees with them or not. I usually enjoy what they bring to CQN.

just read your post, am sorry to hear about your recent loss, am guessing we both lost our partner around the same time i.e a few months ago. lots of emptiness, hurt and pain. you dont know how much you love someone until they are no longer by your side. my partner would have been so happy at recent events, not because she loved celtic, but because she loved me and i love celtic and my wallet was aways a little more loose when things were working out for our club.

    ——————–

Hmmm indeed… It seems in all the convoluted efforts to make accommodations, arrangments, reconstructions and so on, that they are now so entwined and confused that they are tripping over each other and each option. I’m gratified to see the voting today by the SFL clubs was not swayed by the considerable pressure being brought onto them by parties that should serve not attempt to bully them. Let’s hope they remain steadfast during the schenanigans that will surely unfold in the coming days.
