Shakhter boss fears Samaras, will defend

378

Shakhter Karagandy manager, Viktor Kumykov, spoke to the media yesterday, and again this morning, ahead of tomorrow’s Champions League play-off first leg game against Celtic.

“Some of the players who played on Friday night will not make the starting line-up against Celtic but we have a limited squad so I cannot rotate too much.

“Celtic have a high calibre across their squad of around 20 players, they can rotate players without dropping standards.  Whoever we face will be difficult.

“Their most dangerous players are the striker Samaras and wingers Forrest and Commons.

“We will attack but we will keep things tight at the back.  The most important thing about a home game is not to concede.  Celtic are a quality team but we are going to stand up to them with our best game.  We have our plans.

“I said a few times that it’s going to be tough game for us. We are new in the Champions League, Celtic have lots of experience in games in Europe, they even won this tournament. But this does not mean that we are going to be taking a beating. We will do our best, will give our full strength to achieve a good result.

“We watched Celtic in last season’s Champions League, and against Liverpool.  They are stronger than us but football is a game where the strongest don’t always win.  They play a physical game, it will be hard playing against them.

“Unfortunately Toktar Schangyalyschbai and Mikhail Lunin will both miss the game through injury.

“We would like a full stadium, the crowd is going to be an important factor for us.

“We have achieved our main target, Europa League qualification, so the pressure is off us.  We can take a risk in our play.”

Captain, Andrey Finonchenko, added, “Our dreams started with the games against BATE, few imagined we could beat them.  The results against BATE and Skernderbeu have given us faith.  We will do our best tomorrow.”

Stories of the ritualistic slaughter of a ram inside the Astana Arena this morning are true. No medieval stone unturned.

I think wee James’s form has dipped ever since he stopped blowing his nose on the front of his shirt every ten minutes.

His mammy should sew a wee pocket on to his shorts and put a wee hanky in it for him.

I quite like wee James Forrest. He is a winger. Everything they try will not always come off. Derk joining may help take the pressure of him. Commons is not an out and out winger as he cuts inside which means all the pressure is on Forrest to produce the crosses. He scores regulalry though and tries every match. He doesn’t hide. He could do with working on his upper body. Still a wee bit light at times. I would rather see him as an impact sub in the European matches BUT Neil is the manager and he sees a lot in the young Bhoy.

I think James Forrest is a good young player who could blossom with a bit of encouragement.

    Kojo,

I think Lennys mentioned in various interviews that Dirk was bought in to bring us width on the left. I definitely think he can finish though. His movement and technique reminds me of Van Persie.

on the JF debate, don’t see what the fuss is, vastly over rated (mainly by the manager).wont go as far as some, but I truly fear he will fall off the radar this year, unless he steps up big time.

Fair play mate it’s all about opinions, I don’t rate him he’s been about the 1st team for a while and just doesn’t do it for me but when he’s on the park in the hoops he gets my full support 100% HH

  10. If JF was any good would we have signed the Dutchman who allegedly can play wide on both wings.

I think JF has not made any progress from his first season, when he looked like a good prospect.

He reminds me of Peter Grant.

Great as a seventeen year old but wisney any better at 25.

Please please please play Balde upfront!

    C’MON THE CELTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. Afternoon, little over 24 hours to go to ko , hope they clean up after their ritual sheep killing , cannae see the council letting us do that there would be H&S issues !!

Expect us to be solid tomorrow with few changes from Saturday .

Lustig in for Matthews , Broonie playing deaper , possibly Forest for Kayal

I would leave Kayal in and bring Forest of the bench late on. too ealry for van Dijk and Boerrigter and Balde

On the striker issue think we are trying for a first pick signing which hasn’t come off for various reasons , players not wanting to play in Scotland or Celtic not meeting valuations.

If we can’t get a first choice in then I dont see any point in a back up / project , we have Watt and Atajic as our youth projects for SPL games we do not need any more.

Like the idea of Commons, Samaras and Boerrigter ,based on an impressive 30 mins :) as an interchangeable front 3 with Balde, Watt, Stokes and Forest as back up.

  14. ProphetOfRegret on

best business for celtic right now would be securing samaras and ledley for many more years.

Much better than the ‘silver sleeve’.

  19. Philbhoy

I’ve always thought James is a better player when he is running on to a pass rather than when he tries to take the full back on from a standing start (if you get my meaning).

It was evident v England last week, and to be honest, he often looked like a bhoy against a man when trying to take the defender on the outside.

I do think he is decent against weaker SPL full backs, but, cannot see him ever making it in Europe as an out and out winger.

I am worried about Tony Watt.

He looked great early last season culminating in the Barcelona goal, but didn’t get a run in the team.

I read on here he may have had “issue/s” off the park.

If so I hope the club are/have been helping, instead of just dropping him from the first team.

I know his goals ratio is crap, but I’d persevere with him.

I’ve now noticed it myself, especially when everyone in the pub stops talking and looks at me when I do it. Is there a doctor in the house who can tell me WTF is happenin? Am I going bonkers?
