Shakhter Karagandy manager, Viktor Kumykov, spoke to the media yesterday, and again this morning, ahead of tomorrow’s Champions League play-off first leg game against Celtic.
“Some of the players who played on Friday night will not make the starting line-up against Celtic but we have a limited squad so I cannot rotate too much.
“Celtic have a high calibre across their squad of around 20 players, they can rotate players without dropping standards. Whoever we face will be difficult.
“Their most dangerous players are the striker Samaras and wingers Forrest and Commons.
“We will attack but we will keep things tight at the back. The most important thing about a home game is not to concede. Celtic are a quality team but we are going to stand up to them with our best game. We have our plans.
“I said a few times that it’s going to be tough game for us. We are new in the Champions League, Celtic have lots of experience in games in Europe, they even won this tournament. But this does not mean that we are going to be taking a beating. We will do our best, will give our full strength to achieve a good result.
“We watched Celtic in last season’s Champions League, and against Liverpool. They are stronger than us but football is a game where the strongest don’t always win. They play a physical game, it will be hard playing against them.
“Unfortunately Toktar Schangyalyschbai and Mikhail Lunin will both miss the game through injury.
“We would like a full stadium, the crowd is going to be an important factor for us.
“We have achieved our main target, Europa League qualification, so the pressure is off us. We can take a risk in our play.”
Captain, Andrey Finonchenko, added, “Our dreams started with the games against BATE, few imagined we could beat them. The results against BATE and Skernderbeu have given us faith. We will do our best tomorrow.”
Stories of the ritualistic slaughter of a ram inside the Astana Arena this morning are true. No medieval stone unturned.

I prefer a player who wears his heart on his sleeve rather than snotters.
Oh…thanks again bt
Tv 3 in Ireland is owned by Granada tv I think.
Which is why it has such a high ITV content

You are racking air miles faster than Neil Lennon.
Assume this is R & R this time. Have a great time.
Must look into the VPN, thanks for the tip.
Afternoon Timland, very hot and hun free in the mountain valley.

I’ve always thought James is a better player when he is running on to a pass rather than when he tries to take the full back on from a standing start (if you get my meaning).
It was evident v England last week, and to be honest, he often looked like a bhoy against a man when trying to take the defender on the outside.
I do think he is decent against weaker SPL full backs, but, cannot see him ever making it in Europe as an out and out winger.
…………………………………………………….
Good point, but how often do any of our players get balls to run on to?

Is there a doctor in the house who can tell me WTF is happenin? Am I going bonkers?
I’d say – yes – your going mad.

You must be on here too much
Hmmm
Blame Paul 67
Was going to post this after Saturday’s game and forgot.
A lot of our counter attacking slowed up, not because of square passes but passes that caused the runner to slow up or stop. We can’t seem to play into the path of Izzy or JF when they are sprinting up the wing .
I remember back in the day, big Jock sometimes played George Connelly at sweeper/centre back. Every time he won’t up to challenge a goalkeeper kickout with the opposing centre forward, he’d empty his bugle when the ball hit his head. Many a cf left the field at half and full time wearing a new hat

Just seen your post… I’m late again
Personally I think Forrest’s games a bit 1-dimensional
Though I imagine playing with Stokes as a lone striker is difficult
my my the honest mistake you have been busy. my whole point has gone a little fuzzy.
Wow….double post….
Tnt. Clinko
Cheers…agreed on both counts
James is still learning.
How to draw a foul and not get injured – just ask Hector and some thug from Deidco.
How to blow your nose and not leave it on your jersey – just ask John Clark.
Mercurial talent is how the old press guys would describe him, but talent none the less.
He looked embarrassed after he scored on Saturday. The older pros were all over him yet he looked uncomfortable and even kept his head down.
NFL likes him too.

Good afternoon all
Some patter on here today. 31003 hilarious. Lol

Kojo,
I think you may be right. Hopefully he’ll stay injury free long enough for us to find out.
He seems to like coming in narrow, in to goal-scoring positions which is a positive sign. Looks a quick thinker also, so looking forward to him and Commons linking up well.
Just found out that our game at Kilmarnock on 28/9 has been brought forward to a 1245 ko.
Just checked, and The Kerrydale Bar will be open for the match.
Anyone think it might be an idea to watch it there on the dayooooot, then stagger to The Phoenix around 4pm to meet up wi the away support?
One sleep night until the big kick off.
One game in a double header that will shape our season – and possibly the next few seasons.
One goal away will hopefully suffice.
One more barrier perhaps to seeing our £5m striker brought in.
One thing for certain – happy clapper or mineshafter – we all have ONE desire tomorrow – TO WIN THIS TIE.
All bhoys together tomorrow – shoulder to shoulder – as ONE

Humour yes, invective NAW.
Mind you invective sounds like something the doctor would give you for blocked sinuses.
“Use your invective twice a day as required and you’ll be fine. Next please nurse.”

Afternoon CQN,
just reading a comment on the e-tims diary there about the ascension to first-team coach of Daniel Fergus being followed by improvement in the many excellent Celtic fullbacks.
Which chimes well with the point made by The Battered Bunnet regarding the paucity of goalscorers amongst the Celtic coaching line-up.
HH!
regarding Forrest the wingers job is basically to get the ball in to the box for strikers to attack, failing that to win a corner and also to occupy full backs or opposing wingers by making them mark them. When the ball is not in your half of the field the wingers job is to draw defenders and in my opinion to join the strikers as a target in and around the box for the player/s on the ball.
It doesn’t matter to me how they do those things. It’s great if you can take a man on from a standing start and leave him for dead. Not many can. Great if you’re getting the ball played in behind and can outpace your defender – more can do this. Great if you can run up and down the park all day occupying the flank of your opponent to make them less effective as an attacking force – all this requires is fitness.
But the main function of the winger – the delivery of cross balls or passes in to attackers – requires that you find a yard of space to allow you to do that. Forrest is capable of that. He needs to work on consistency of delivery and arriving in the box at the right time when the ball is coming from the other wing (which he is ok at just now)..
Forrest is a good player. He’ll be around for a long time to come.

so JFs poor form is down to stokes?….jeezo!
heard on radio 5 earlier on:
WInston Churchill leaving the bogs of some club or other is spied not having washed his hands. Some upstart says ‘My man, at Eton they taught us to wash our hands after going to the toilet.’
THe bold WInnie replies ‘At Harrow they taught us not to p*ss on our hands…..’
Mildly amusing I suppose…..
TOOTING TIM
Maybe Danny is coaching the strikers too!
Personally, not sure that the quality of coaching is to blame as much as the quality of our strikers.
Tooting TIm – who was telling Hooper how to score?
I hope Celtic aren’t taken in by the bullshit from this manager.
Our fans are also underestimating them if they think this will be easy.
Celtic are not good enough to be complacent.
We create very little from open play.
TT
best SNOTTERER ever BRIAN MCCLAIR!!!!!!!!! are we a sad lot or wit???
Neil Lennon press conference passed well.

Goals are like buses.
You wait hours for one and then they all come together…
Then they’ll drive past your stop.
We could have scored six on Saturday, but then against Liverpool, we could have conceded six.

NL on signing news: “Nothing at all. Spoke to John Park late last night and he was working on a few players but no news today.”
We’re gonna need a bigger list……!!
If JF was a bit more direct and not scared to run across the full back when past him,he would get more passmarks from me.
BOBBY MURDOCH’S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS
I always go back to the point with a midfield general passing the ball into dangerous areas any striker will struggle, we always always always work the balls out to the wing to Izzy, Adam Big Mick, Charlie or Jamesy and then hump the ball into the box, rarely do we hit the byeline where the cross is more dangerous, any half decent team can pack the last third with players and snuff out the threat, when was the last time you saw a Celtic striker receive a near post ball that he could attack??
No incision, Jamesy’s goal against Aberdeen showed me exactly what we can do when the midfielder JL hits the ball inside the full back!!
A lot of talk about strikers in the past weeks and we need one for sure but a passing midfielder wouldnae go amiss either!!
Hail Hail…
