Shameless liar to Fit & Proper

171

Rangers director Dave King’s remarkable statement today read like a manifesto for taking over a football club.  I’ll leave aside most of his allegations, speculation and threats for now and discuss the central point to be considered by the Scottish Football Association.

King has asked the SFA if he would be deemed a Fit and Proper Person to run a football business.  He has been a director of Rangers for the last 12 years, starting pretty much in tandem with the Employee Benefit Trust scheme which has precipitated so much trouble for the club.  One of the key responsibilities of a non-executive director, defined by Wikipedia, are to:

“Satisfy themselves that financial information is accurate and that financial controls and systems of risk management are robust and defensible”

It was his responsibility to ensure that Rangers’ tax submissions were accurate and defensible.  He was employed (and presumably paid) to carry out this duty on behalf of the thousands of ordinary shareholders.  This particular duty has been subject to gross underperformance.  Being a bad director is not a suitable defence.

Last year the Daily Record reported that a South African court judgement said: “In our assessment [King] is a glib and shameless liar”.

Adding he, “has no respect for the truth and does not hesitate to lie … if he thinks it will be to his advantage”, before ruling his company was liable for a £250m bill served by the South African tax authorities.  The very mention of the phrase “tax authorities” should send alarm bells ringing at Hampden.

Even Craig Whyte has never been called a shameless liar by a court.

King served as Rangers director with SFA president and board member, Campbell Ogilvie, for five years.  The SFA have yet to respond to his Fit and Proper Person enquiry.
You are beginning to see why the SFA president’s position is simply untenable.  We have been plunged headlong into the biggest scandal in the history of Scottish football and he sat around the table with most of the people involved when many decisions were agreed.

SFA chief exec, Stewart Regan, might be tempted to issue another “Campbell is clearly conflicted with this…” comment but would be much better served by:

Making it clear that works like “glib and shameless liar” from a court do not make you Fit and Proper for Scottish football.

Calling an emergency board meeting and instigate an immediate and wide-ranging inquiry into Rangers – with an initial response before the end of this month.

Advising the president that he should immediately offer information to the SPL inquiry and do the same with the SFA inquiry once convened, and step aside until all related matters have concluded.

More on King’s self-serving claim that trophies Rangers ‘won’ during and around their EBT period are secure soon.

I would like to be the first to congratulate St Mirren on their League Cup win in 2010.

Will there be a permanent memorial to Rangers FC?

Maybe a marble relief sculpture of John Greig receiving the 1972 European Cup Winners’ Cup in the Nou Camp toilet?

It could be called “Another Homage to Catalonia”. (thumbsup)

I never watch the TV soaps but this “another day brings another disaster” situation at the big empty hoose is gripping. The only thing missing after each new revelation is a dramatic Eastenders style drum roll to finish.

Thoroughly enjoying the old media trailing the timternet – was it about two weeks ago that we all sent e mails to the SFA about the rangers contract situation (drum roll?)

    Keep it coming

  4. Reposted from yesterday- Party at Swindon Town FC (party hats optional).

A shout out to anyone in the Swindon area and beyond. There is a Charity ‘ An Evening with John Hartson’ event at Swindon Town FC on Thursday 22nd March 7pm. Price is £15 per ticket which includes supper, comedian and auction including Celtic items. Proceeds go to Great Western Hospital Breast Cancer Unit.

Would be good to show BBJ the Celtic support in the area and what we think of a guy who donned the hoops and is now one us. If interested please leave a message on here and I will get Paul to send me your email.

    great stuff.

You must be struggling just now to keep these rolling out.

How many times have you said I’ll keep that for later, never to have got round to writing it due to the speed of the stories.

    Their incompetance knows no bounds.

the darkest days in Rangers’ history might still be to come in a period that has brought sheer embarrassment to the club.

Lots of focus, rightly so,on R.C.Ogilvie, questioning if his previous employment would have given him insight into the “Double Contract” situation.

If I recall correctly did Fraser Wishart not sign for RFC between 1993 and 1995 and although not an ever present, he must have had knowledge of the contractual arrangements of his fellow players, therefore all this may not be new news, and if so why did he apply a Nelsonian eye? considering his present role.

  9. *** Breaking News ***

It has been established how Craig Whyte managed to pass the due dilligence and backgrond check when acquiring rangers. When filling out the legal paperwork he came to the question: “Have you ever been arrested?” He answered ‘No’ to the question. The next question, intended for those who answered the preceding question with a Yes, was “Why?” Nevertheless, he answered it “Never got caught.”

Paul67, I believe you already congratulated st mirren for that achievement?

  14. Whenever someone asks for a pre-emptive judgement on their qualification for something, it probably means that they’re pretty sure they don’t qualify.

I might write to the SFA asking them to expend time and resources investigating whether I would be a ‘fit and proper’ person to take up a directorship role, should I ever apply. Maybe we all should, just in case.

  15. 67Heaven ... I am Neil Lennon..!!..Truth and Justice will always prevail on

So dave king thinks “liquidation is inevitable”….!!!!

Has noone told him this was ‘our agent’s’ plan from the outset….?

Since he is many things, but not naive, I would suggest he may have (allegedly, of course) ‘contributed’ to the compilation of that plan in the first place…….??…..but, of course, I could be a liar….would be in good company on that one, eh……LOL…!!!

“…In the event that he actually lodges a claim, we would vigorously defend it. You may be a right wing looney but that comment made me laugh so hard that the whole office is looking at me like I’ve gone mad.

  19. I love the way anyone connected to rangers states they are “disappointed and surprised that the club finds its self in this position”

They didn’t wake up on 14th February to find themselves there, they have mismanaged, lied, defrauded and cheated their way here, eyes wide open in full knowledge of what they were doing, at least those in positions of power.

If they didn’t they are at best incompetent.

“we find ourselves in this position” unbelievable rhetoric.

    Back to work.

  21. Paul, so far you have congratulated Aberdeens treble along with Motherwell and St Mirren. I don’t think you have congratulated Celtic yet on going for 17 in a row. Are you a Hun?

“David Murray says Dave King was fully aware of financial activity at Rangers, so questions the legitimacy of any claim against Murray, for failing to disclose accurately financial state of club.”

Or, to put it another way, Dave King can’t complain that he was cheated by Murray because he was actually part of the cheating

  24. Murray, King and Whyte along with Goodwin and many others – all captains of industry and/or high flying businessmen.

Normal rules, morals and sense of responsibility don’t seem to apply.

No wonder the country is in such a state.

  26. Aunt Sally went into a church and he was praying to God. While he was praying, he asked God, “How long is 10 million years to you?” God replied, “1 second.” The next day he asked God, “God, how much is £100 Million to you?” And God replied, “A penny.” Then finally the next day Ally asked God, “God, can I have one of your pennies?” And God replied, “Just wait a sec.”

Listened to the latest Celtic Underground Podcast,,,interesting stuff,Spiers,Tom English and Hugh Macdonald and Paul Hughes of the Sun took part at a Q and A session at the Carluke Shamrock CSC!!

They spoke about Murray’s poodles in the meeja,,,Spier’s in particular seemed to take pleasure in ridiculing the Daily Record as the chief culprit in kissing Murray’s backside!

They also spoke about new media,,and how it played its part in breaking the whole Rangers Tax/Administration story,,,they all agreed that the guy who runs The Rangers Tax Blog deserve’s a lot of credit because he was telling us over a year ago exactly what would happen and has been proved 100% correct!!

For me though the most interesting part was when they attacked certain internet blog’s,proclaiming that most of them talked bulls**t,,some where good most were bad,,then Tom English piped up that he felt Phil Mac was a “Chancer” and refereed to Phil’s website as a “comedy Blog”!!!!

Hugh Macdonald came across quite well as did Spiers (who seems to revel in kicking Sir Minty),,,Tom English im still not sure about this guy, wasn’t impressed at his attack on Phil Mac,i dont know if its because of his tie’s with Traynor, i just dont trust him!!!

I wonder what Phil Mac will have to say about Tom’s comment’s??
