Shane Duffy and space for a project

712

At 6’ 4” and built like the Free Derry Wall in the town he knows so well, Shane Duffy brings experience and assurance to the middle of the Celtic defence.  What would have happened had he been at the club eight days earlier is imponderable.

I don’t know Shane well enough to comment on that question but I am assured by Irish friends he has been an impenetrable leader in their national team for years.  He is at Celtic because his time as first choice at Brighton is over, but he is still only 28, which is the middle of the peak years for many central defenders. We have recruited a player who will be influential in the chase for 10.

The most pleasing aspect of his signature is the tactical shift another central defender gives us towards three at the back.  Surely Shane, Kristoffer and Christopher will all play when fit?  That being the case, I would like to see us add one more central def.: space for ‘a project’.

In my earlier posts re the boring political garbage that’s spouted on here I wasn’t suggesting banning anyone or anything. I was just saying how tiresome and tedious it was….

  2. Frank Terry

He can be both a False Flag and an alt right troll.

As a False Flag, all I was stating was that he was no Labour supporter- I was not suggesting he was an SNP guy trying to do Labour damage. I think your instincts for him being alt-right (includes everyone fromn outright nazis to Tories who dare not speak their name) are sound.

  3. If someone has to go, please make it Ajer, he or his agent think he’s another Virgil, hmmm, don’y think so.

I really don’t want Ntcham to leave, I rate him big time, and please don’t let Brenda get Cal Mac or Chrisie, please.

  4. In no way should we ever consider selling Calmac. He’s the classiest midfielder we’ve had in years imo…..

    Just post something else.

Oscar Wilde said:- “There is only one thing in life worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about.”

We could say the only thing more boring than political posts are posts that only complain about the tediousness of political posts without adding anything of interest.

  6. MAD MITCH @1.59

What are you on mate, CalMac should be a squad player, ffs, are you a moon man or from another planet!!!

Did you see his play when Jamesy scored?

  9. CELTIC QUICK NEWS

Just in case folk have forgotten what this blog is all about. If it isn’t about CELTIC it shouldn’t be on this blog.

It isn’t Conservative Quick News, Catholic Quick News or Comrade Quick News – I refer you to the top line if you are confused.

Please take your subjective political (and religious) ideologies and shove them. Again if it ain’t about CELTIC it doesn’t belong here.

These are sad people looking to be relevant and I’m surprised and disappointed by the amount of oxygen of response is given to these digital blowhards. – don’t encourage them and they will get back under the rock they came from and we can get back to what this blog is all about –

    CELTIC QUICK NEWS …

In 1970 I had an interview for executive officer at the Civil Service Commissioners in London. One of the interviewers seemed fascinated that there is Dumbarton, Dunbartonshire and Dunbar and wondered why. I said that in gaelic dum/dun meant fort, bar meant hilltop/summit and ton meant town. He must have been happy with that as I got my commission as executive officer.

  11. So far in this transfer window we have brought in …

    Centre Half

Thanks for the advice, really appreciate being patronised……

  13. SFTB & Mr James Forrest.

I state my case on here because it affects me & all of our 17% probably more than any other section of the Scottish population.

I state facts that can be researched & verified – I talk about events that are firmly in the public domain, & I extrapolate likely behaviour from similar behaviour in the past.

I do not make insults, call people a “false flag”, whatever that means, nor do I label those who may disagree with me “trolls” – surely you can do better than that.

Of course you singularly avoid answering any of the points I make – that is revealing in itself.

I don”t need to justify/verify my Irish/Scottish/Catholic/Celtic credentials to you – they are solid, I can assure you, and go back to both sets of grandparents from Meath & Donegal, respectively.

Tell me this – why would/did you vote for a Scotland separated from the UK. The oil lie bubble is burst, so there can’t be an economic reason – let me guess…is it because you associate those at Ibrox & their followers as representative of the UK, and voting SNP for an independent Scotland is a way of screwing them?

Well let me tell you, they are not the UK – our like-minded friends in the UK outnumber them at least five to one.

You are not screwing them, but you might be impoverishing the ordinary working Scotsman/Scotswoman, robbing them of their jobs, livelihood, pensions & benefits – and their children of a proper education & career prospects in the future, in Scotland.

We can make distinctly Scottish solutions to Scottish problems within the most powerfull devolved parliament in the world, pooling & sharing resources & secure in the sixth largest economy in the world.

The furlough scheme has saved around ONE MILLION Scottish jobs & companies – something an independent Scotland could never have countenanced.

I’m no Tory – I have fought them and the SNP ever since I got interested in politics – buy I tell you this – what the UKGOV has done in Furlough, dwarfs ANYTHING the SNP have ever done for Scotland in their entire existence – by the way, what have they ever done for the ordinary working people of Scotland?

If your stance is motivated by “getting one over on the huns”, you should be deeply ashamed.

Well said pal. But please ensure you are adding something of interest……..

  15. EMBRAMIKE

Politics affect every part of our lives – aye even the team you support.

This blog has long been the domain of SNP propaganda by a substantial clutch of posters – I look to redress that with facts, figures & informed opinion. I know it won’t change the one-track minds of those who vote SNP, but there are many thousands of Celtic fans who oppose independence – I seek to represent them.

Do you have a problem with free speech? If you support it, have a wee look at the SNP Hate Speech Bill.

If there are certain subjects and/or posters you don’t like, please scroll by.

  16. onenightinlisbon on

This has nothing to do with the right to free speech. This has to do with a football blog dedicated to the team we love being turned into a talking shop for boors who have nothing better to do than ram their own political agenda down everyone else’s throats.

  17. Bankiebhoy

Many Bankies think they live in West Dumbartonshire. It takes a weegie infiltrator like me to point out that we live in Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire. It annoys me as much as the many posters on here who spell Elyounoussi’s name wrongly, after a year in Scotland.

  18. I would literally sell anyone else in our squad if it meant we kept Calum McGregor

When you play the Game of Thrones, either you win or you die. Happy to read Charles Green was awarded a win this week. A deserved break.

I have nothing but contempt for the bigots, swindlers and thickos he fleeced at Ibrox first time around. Hope he returns to fleece them again. Maybe encourage the huns to venture into cryptocurrency.

As to the famous snap, the family and horses moved away from Corday three years ago. A vet took it on, tells us all we require to know about that job as a means to earn a living.

Will they return, courtesy of the Crown Office? Stranger things have happened in the strange world of Scottish football.

    —————————–

Welcome to Shane Duffy. Ireland and Brighton may have needed you to defend the penalty box, I hope you’re here to keep our opposition outside the penalty box.

  20. Guys,

Im always baffled by Dumbarton Rd leading to West Dunbartonshire.

As for incorrect spelling. What about posters who cannot get the name of Peter Lawwell correct.

He’s only been about Paradise since 1990.😀

    Cheers and HH.

    Big Wavy

I’m undecided about Ajer. There is a great player in there, somewhere, trying to get out. He has loads of positives: pace, the ability to bring the ball out from the back while simultaneously breaking the press of the opposition and throwing them into chaos. However, he can’t head a ball, hates being challenged in the air one-on-one. He also places both hands on opponents inside the box when he is trying to shepherd them and prevent them from turning. I think this is an accident waiting to happen.

    ———————————————————————————————————————————–

You’ve summed up my opinion of Ajer perfectly, my mates get fed up with me stating my opinion on Mr Ajer. I’m not new to this opinion, apart from the first few months in the first team he has been like this.

Also for those who think he’s a midfielder watch the number of times he gets caught unaware of opposition players in and around him, never a midfielder.

  22. what would be the general view is Boli serves his ban, takes his club fine and comes back into the squad? I don’t even know if he is back training

players have made mistakes and apologised before

  23. I’m old enough to remember what a number of Celtic fans thought of Scott Brown.

Lewis Ferguson’s career trajectory so far is similar to that of Brown. He has over 100 career games in the Scottish top flight by age 21. (Scott Brown had around 93)

That puts him ahead of plenty of his peers in his development and where he can go.

Ask yourself, if he was called Lewis McStay would you want him?

There are aspects of his game he needs to work on. He certainly has a propensity to dive into crazy tackles and was rightly sent off against us.

But he can take a penalty and chips in with assists (similar to what Calum McGregor achieved at that age)

I’d imagine that all his stats would improve if he played for us. But it’s not just stats, I was thoroughly impressed by his performance against Hibernian.

He will probably never play for us for obvious reasons. But I really do hope he heads down south as he’s going to be an improvement on Ryan Jack.

“I look to redress that with facts, figures & informed opinion. I know it won’t change the one-track minds of those who vote SNP, but there are many thousands of Celtic fans who oppose independence – I seek to represent them. ”

Wow what a lot of self important garbage, still at least its a laugh.

  25. ONENIGHTINLISBON

Yes I was there, and in Milan…and in Seville – yes I have loved Celtic and it has been important to me since I attended my first match with my Dad against Third Lanark, too many years ago.

But I also hold thoughts in my brain on other important matters.

If you think that this blog has been, or, is, only about football, then you have not been logging on enough.

I ram nothing down peoples’ throats.

With such a rigid approach, you seem to want to control the agenda to only what suits you.

Saying that it is not about free-speech, is a distinction without a difference.

  26. Timmy7

I have read some shite posted on here over the years, but this recent British Unionist troll JHB, takes the biscuit.

    One for the watching!

  27. JHB

I’m not in the slightest interested in what you think this blog is about. If you knew anything about why it was set up you would know your contributions (if I can call them that) are as irrelevant as are your opinions.

You are arrogant enough to think your opinions are with reading about – sorry you’re just a sad troll looking for relevance and that makes me laugh.

Despite the laughter, I will scroll by your inputs as I do with other irrelevant ‘bloggers’ and in return why don’t you do me a favour and piss off into that dark place you and your inflated ego hide. You’re an embarrassment in a really sad way. No more oxygen from me.

You”re welcome to disagree on any issue & make an alternative point.

    I await your counter-argument.

Surely “self-important garbage” will be easy to ‘shoot down’….but remember, insulting someone is not making a valid point.

I don’t care if you’ve been to Milan, Lisbon ar Alloa either, doesn’t make you any more or less a fan than anyone else..
