‘SHAUN MALONEY WOULD DO BRILLIANT JOB’

SHAUN MALONEY would do a “brilliant” job at Celtic with the Under-20 squad, according to skipper Scott Brown.

The champions are seeking a replacement for Jim McGuinness after the Irishman quit coaching the youngsters to take up a post in China.

Maloney, who has already had two spells at Parkhead as a player, is in talks over filling the vacant role at Lennoxtown.

The former Scotland international has also held a series of conversations with Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes over moving to Pittodrie as a player.

However, the 34-year-old midfielder is concerned by the lingering effects of an injury and is prepared to reluctantly hang up his boots for an opportunity to begin his coaching career.

Brown said: “The Wee Man would be brilliant. I had some great playing times with Shaun, he was here when I first came and was here underneath Neil Lennon.

“He would be great, would bring a lot of class. He works well and is willing to learn. He’s a great guy.

“He was in today, seeing the facilities and the gaffer’s coaching, I am sure Shaun hasn’t forgotten too much about Lennoxtown, though”‘

Maloney won four league titles, three Scottish Cups and three League Cups as a Hoops player.
