Shiels has history on his side tomorrow

923

It would be easy for Celtic to take their eye of the ball.  A huge Scottish Cup game at Tannadice last week, which was more difficult than the score-line suggests, before Neil Lennon had what will have been a few traumatic days.  The tension in the west of Scotland ahead of next weekend’s game at Ibrox is already tangible; in truth, we could do with some quiet preparation time ahead of tomorrow’s Scottish Communities League Cup Final against Kilmarnock.

Kilmarnock have no such worries.  The Cup Final tomorrow is their season.  Out of the Scottish Cup and certain to finish in the bottom six of the SPL, their focus will be absolute tomorrow.  Kenny Shiels’ team have won only four league games since October  but you will not need me to tell you two of those victories were against Rangers.

Two home wins within six days against Rangers and Aberdeen, the latter on 3 December, suggested Killie were certain to challenge for a European place this season, but things have moved south since then.  They beat St Mirren on 2 January at Rugby Park before that impressive performance dumped Rangers on their bums at Ibrox last month.

Kenny Shiels made it onto Radio Scotland during the week to tell the nation that Celtic were so good it would be a travesty if they didn’t win the treble.  I totally agree (and I’m warming to this guy) but Kenny knows exactly what he is doing.  He intends to win the cup tomorrow and will know every potential weakness in the Celtic team.

History suggests he has a decent chance.  Since winning five consecutive finals (until 1969), Celtic competed in 20 finals, winning only seven.  We have some form to make up in this tournament.

Please realise the difference between real journalists and their Scottish impostors. They have painted themselves into a corner and have nowhere to go.

Left Scotland a long time ago, but constantly reminded of how it still is by reading on here. It was the same in my time BUT it shouldn’t decide your outlook on all your fellow Scots. Yes, there are many out there who are against, but most don’t even understand, or care, why. So, why bother?

It’s only my opinion, from a distance, that the majority –

    1. Don’t care

    2. Wish that the stupidity would simply disappear

Don’t despair about your fellow man or woman – otherwise the game’s a bogey.

Keep posting. Here you have lots of support plus wiser heads than mine to help.

    Cheers

  4. huns fc- love the queen but wont pay her on

I know that our thoughts should be on tomorrows game and how important It Is to our club but I cant help myself to think about the fact we could win the title at corrupt scum FC next week. I think back to the hurt of 99 and how I dreamed of this happening for us. I dont have a ticket but I’ve been a couple of times when we’ve played there and I wonder what the atmosphere will be like next week, I struggle to imagine It can be more hated towards us than usual but know that It will be. I can see there being absolute carnage and part of me Is glad I’m not going, Is there anyone on here going? Got a couple of pals going and there not so worried about being In the dump but more about the getting from there bus to and back, even being near there on the bus will be dodgy. Also our leader Neil Lennon should probably hire the secret service, I hear Barac Is going to Afghanistan but he says Neil will be in a more dangerous environment so his bhoys should stand behind a real leader.

  5. can some kind soul please explain the winning the title at Ibrox scenario, please ?

is it simply win and that is all ?

I’ve personally heard them sing F the Pope and the IRA during “Simply the Best”. That doesn’t mean that was the origin of the song. Not on a high horse, just urging people to stick to the facts rather than spreading nonsense.

Thanks for that response sir. The only reason why I despair is because people let it go unchallenged. Instead of the press asking the tough questions we now have to question the press to ask the questions in the first place. It seems a bit surreal. But then again never let anyone do your work for you.

  12. massive game tomorrow – i really cant see anything other than a Celtic victory – but it being a cup final, there is always that nagging wee doubt in the back of your head

after tomorrow, if Motherwell lose or draw next Saturday then there could be the chance of winning the title at ibrokes… am i correct?

im in 2 minds over that

    1) i would love to see that happen – we owe them after 99? and i would love to see the Celtic family having a party in the Free Broomloan stand

    2) i genuinley fear for the support, players and staff if we do win it there.

the support – well all over Glasgow and this sh*tehole i live in, there will be trouble no doubt – over here we will be reading on Monday morning about a Catholic/Celtic fan being beaten/kicked/stamped to death by this mob

the staff and Lenny in particular could be a sitting duck if we are 1 or 2 up early on – they really, really hate this guy and i can see somebody try to do him next week and make themselves a “hero”

i would rather Motherwell won next week, we win there and Motherwell sit 2nd in the table

I have no time for Irish Rugby, delighted they lost today. Rugby people look down on GAA and soccer, their contempt for the games and their supporters is open. The Independent newspapers follow the same mantra, never an article casting a bad light on oval ball game, watch them go to town when a soccer player/team/supporter steps out of line, likewise for GAA. Sickens me

The Scottish sport press, almost to a body, are in the pocket of the Team of the Establishment, and always have been.

Those who chose not to sell their integrity moved to work in England, with a couple of honourable exceptions who then found themselves sidelined.

I think Scotland has historically had a great and largely unquestioning respect for its press, which isn’t healthy, and leads to the poodle press we have right now – on the sports pages at least.

But fewer and fewer people are reading them, in their parroting of the Party Line, and more and more people are getting their news and opinion on blogs such as this one.

Which is a good thing! Don’t give up on Scotland because the sports pages of dying newspapers have been bought up. They don’t matter any more.

The lies, deceit and dishonesty surrounding Rangers, and the complicity of Scotland’s footballing powers, including the press, have been exposed thanks to the efforts of blogging journalists.

    That’s Scotland’s future.

Sorry if i sound pompous but i was a newspaper journalist for 23 years and old habits die hard.

    3-1 tomorrow.

Mackay-Steven and Johnny Russell are top class – better prospects than Goodwillie, IMO – and I was laughed out of Town when I said that about Russell last year. The boy Dixon is a player too.

Dixon is available on a free this summer. Get rid of Wallace and sign him.

Mackay-Steven looks like a natural Left Winger, something I don’t remember us having since probably Neil McCann.

Johnny Russell, as far as I’m aware, is a Jungle Jim. If he isn’t a bitter wee bastard, then I’d take him in a heartbeat – even if it means just so they can’t get him. He’s a left footed Naismith (in more ways than one). Neil McCann done alright, even though he was one of them.

Could probably get all 3 players for under £3m in the Summer.
