Shift in perception, winter solstice of 54-65

518

Don’t give me your ‘slump’ mockery. Just think for a minute, what if this IS our slump? Five league games in 17 days, four of which were won by a single goal is as bad as it’s been since Brendan Rodgers took over as manager.

We have, of course, shuffled the pack. With a hefty nine games this month, Brendan is correct to rest the weary legs which concluded our Champions League group only two weeks ago. He also has a full programme over the festive period to prepare for.

With 20 wins in 21 domestic games this season we’ve won the first trophy, scoring 11 and without conceding. Win our remaining games this month and we’ll be at least 17 clear “and it’s not New Year”. With a game in hand.

Scottish football has never had such a dominant champion, even during the two nine-in-a-row eras. It’s been achieved with largely the same squad as last season, while we were the only team participating in European group competition – and with a sustainable financial model.

I know talk of “slump” is ridiculous, but I bet you’ve already picked up a shift in perception of what is normal for Celtic. Most of us have been around long enough to remember the dark days. Some of us have been around to remember the winter solstice, which lasted from 1954 to 1965, but we’re all susceptible to recent-experience bias.

The collapse of Aberdeen this season robbed us of what competition we had but in compensation, we’re watching a great Celtic team come together. Team development does not happen on a linear plane. It requires risks to be taken and mistakes to be made, but no one is in any doubt about Celtic’s direction of travel.

  2. My friends in Celtic,

The Sevco fans having realised that they are not going to win anything in the footie have turned to music. We should never underestimate how difficult this has been for them. To many it’s been a whole life changing experience. Singing a song watching Sevco without any add ons or FTP connotations .

It will never last, total confusion has set in.

Stealing a well known Crystal Palace anthem to sing about the current “legend ” at Greyskull has put some over the edge and cheap wine sales have rocketed in Brigton and Larkhall.

Little Mix and the horrid Huns head to head. Forget radio or downloads, get them on the box.

Let the great general public decide who is more photogenic, and who is more worthy.

Time to lighten up a bit guys, it’s Christmas after all.

  3. Wow, some interesting comments of late. Bottom line for me is that CQN is an amazing vehicle of Celtic-ness and we are a very broad church. IMHO we are very lucky to have CQN and I thank Paul67, a bloke I have never met and probably never will meet, for that.

Big few days for me coming up so I thought I had better get my last blog before Christmas in early doors. Please enjoy and share with our fellow Tims, esp those in DownUnderland.Ta.

  14. Res:12 shouldny even be an issue….imho.

Res:12, as far as I understand it….is all about setting the record straight that, the SFA allowed Rangers FC into the CL when, RFC didny fulfil the criteria to do so.

But,…..what is ‘never’ mentioned here is the fACT that,…..

The SFA were only allowed to do this for the huns coz, the SFA knew that the Cellic PLC would look the other way and, not cause any problems etc….imho.

Ye see,….Res:12 is ‘THEE’ biggest squirrel of all.

The Cellic PLC are arrogant enough to think that, by bringing Brendan into the club,….the fans would take a leaf from the PLC’s book and,….look the other way…imho.

But,….but, but, but,….Res:12 isny the issue here.

The issue is that, a group of Cellic supporters have had to pursue this course of action at all.

The very reason that the Rangers FC were allowed do cheat on an industrial scale was because, there would be no form of protest from Cellic PLC.

Ye see,….all of the sharks and, eagle-eyed crusaders of justice, the petition-peddlers….are the ones that the joke is on.

Ah mean, BRTH said on these pages that…..

…”Fergus McCann set up Celtic PLC as a, mechanism to keep the fans on the outside.”

If, Fergus McCann was a mhan of his word, he’d have sold all of his shares back to the Celtic supporters who put him into power in the 1st place and, he also stated that he’d sell these shares back to the support at 10 % less than the price that he bought them for. He didn’t.

But,… but, but,…..BRTH’s comment should have sparked off a tsunami of rebellion but,…..sadly, all it got was a bucket of saw dust poured over it.

Does anybody think that, a Cellic board led by a rebellious group of supporters like, Jeanette Findlay and her ilk, would have looked the other way as, Rangers FC were granted a dodgy licence to play in the CL and, all the honest mistakes that were carried out on the pitch to ensure a RFC victory and, also, to do all this after taking £millions from Cellic season ticket holders whilst, knowing that the game was already rigged to cheat these same Cellic supporters and, the supporters of all the other teams as well too ?

THAT……..is what Cellic PLC did and, they were only able to do so because, Celtic FC / PLC is ‘rigged’ to keep the Cellic supporters outside of what they though was they’re club.

So, dealing with specifics….what is the bigger issue ?

    Res:12 ?

    Or,….

Cellic PLC being designed by McCann to keep the Cellic supporters on the outside.

Think about it,….would cellic supporters running the club have looked the other way to allow the huns to cheat ?

Res:12 is a drop in the ocean compared to the McCann swindle.

But,….sadly, its the easily gulled culture who support the Cellic these days.

    Ye couldny write it.

    …oot…

I suspect too that Paul has had to choose his path. He has chosen a commercial and orthodox one with good tie-ins to the Club.

He no doubt is rewarded for that and by that.

I have always been a bit of a contrarian. Coupled with my melancholic temperament, I am what you might call an against the grain carbunkle with a critical eye. If I were a detective I might have been Rebus or Taggart, but I’m neither.

    So what?

Against the grain carbunkles with a critical eyes have a hard time keeping the pax caledonia on overtly toe-the-line fan platforms.

Firms owed by oldco Rangers face further delays Firms owed money when ‘oldco’ Rangers (sic) were liquidated (sic) in 2012 face further delays in their hopes of getting cash back. A protracted legal action by the investment firm Worthington Group is the cause of the delays. (The Herald)

Also I was told that the 10% sell on clause for Virgil kicked in if he was sold on after 5 years with Southampton. Being sold on prior to that would be subject to a far more generous pay-back. Can anybody confirm that 20% within a 2 year period would ‘in fact’ be false? Too little?

  24. mullet and co 2 on

I said after we qualified for the Champions League that a £90m turnover was achievable.

Our cut of the Van Dyke transfer makes that closer to reality.

The uncomfortable truth for some is that Leisecter City won the English league on close to that. They are at 50-1 to win the Champions League for some odd reason even though they could easily beat Seville and escape Barcelona or Bayern in the next round.

Resolution 12 though still sits uncomfortably. If the club want this to go away surely there would not be a better time?

  25. The van Dijk sell on ,might be from any profit made by Southampton, not the whole transfer fee…..
