Shift in perception, winter solstice of 54-65

518

Don’t give me your ‘slump’ mockery. Just think for a minute, what if this IS our slump? Five league games in 17 days, four of which were won by a single goal is as bad as it’s been since Brendan Rodgers took over as manager.

We have, of course, shuffled the pack. With a hefty nine games this month, Brendan is correct to rest the weary legs which concluded our Champions League group only two weeks ago. He also has a full programme over the festive period to prepare for.

With 20 wins in 21 domestic games this season we’ve won the first trophy, scoring 11 and without conceding. Win our remaining games this month and we’ll be at least 17 clear “and it’s not New Year”. With a game in hand.

Scottish football has never had such a dominant champion, even during the two nine-in-a-row eras. It’s been achieved with largely the same squad as last season, while we were the only team participating in European group competition – and with a sustainable financial model.

I know talk of “slump” is ridiculous, but I bet you’ve already picked up a shift in perception of what is normal for Celtic. Most of us have been around long enough to remember the dark days. Some of us have been around to remember the winter solstice, which lasted from 1954 to 1965, but we’re all susceptible to recent-experience bias.

The collapse of Aberdeen this season robbed us of what competition we had but in compensation, we’re watching a great Celtic team come together. Team development does not happen on a linear plane. It requires risks to be taken and mistakes to be made, but no one is in any doubt about Celtic’s direction of travel.

Jim Payne The ‘Jaws’ screamer from 8 inches which won the Deidclub the Scottish Cup final a couple of years later gave me plenty of sleepless nights anaw.

*another game where an honest mistake meant we had a perfectly good Jinky goal chalked off 2 minutes after the Fife Beckenbauer had equalised for us from a penalty which HAD to be given as their greatest player threw himself full length tae punch away a Dixie thunderbolt that was net bound.

But then again this was deidco’s centennial year with a royal princess, sister of the highest goatshagger in the UK, there tae present the trophy.

Incidentally the lifetime FCM supporter sclaffed the ball intae the net at the far post as the defender that would have normally been there had just left the field injured a minute previously.

    Well said.

Paul67 provides this forum for dafties to talk Celtic, for, wine or anything else they so desire. To then have people come on to his free site to then criticise his choice of topics is bad manners of the type that my wee mammy would’ve slapped me about the head for.

Times change but when you are brought up with manners they stick.

  4. Neganon 2

Pretty poor show from you tonight.

Fact one – CQN has stood behind the Res12 boys and helped in many ways. Paul has had a role that means it is hard for him to let off steam about it in a blog.

Fact two – the Res12 guys have not ended discussions with Celtic nor have CELTIC pulled the plug on the issues raised by the guys. It remains ongoing.

Fact three – there have been tangible benefits from what has been uncovered by the four guys. BRTH remains in contact with Celtic and while recognising temper issues caused by the frustrations of years of delays (not always by Celtic) he told me this week that it far from over.

Your post reminds me of the Huns trolling Chris Sutton the other week when we were 2-0 down at Motherwell.

OH WILL THEY SAY WE FAILED.

Didn’t think I could be more gutted than the ’72 6-1 final, when my late father took my wee brother and me away from the crush outside after we’d arrived much later than planned.

Heard the roar for Billy’s goal as we headed for home.

But losing that final, in those circumstances, was much worse.

Still, didn’t have long to wait to see us lift it. ’74 v a Dundee Utd team including Naesurname, I think. 3-0.

And then retaining it v Airdrie the following year.

  6. Yeah, Neganon2 is wrong to personally attack our host.

    Civility costs nowt.

He loses his point, time after time, simply because of his hostility.

But it seems many are simply going to accept this farce masquerading as Celtic.

There are plenty posts harking back to their cheating. They are what they are after all, no surprises really.

My question is what are we ?

You are on a losing docket expecting anything but spin and innuendo from that poster.

It’s no secret that I have many issues with those board members who, in my opinion, continually undermine the Celtic support. However, I think your comments are in extremely poor taste regarding Paul. I disagree with many of his viewpoints but I certainly don’t believe that Paul is a mouthpiece for The plc, I just think his opinions align with PL et al.

    Owen

For every negative post from Neganon you produce an often ridiculous pro board post.

The news about my niece Bee, my name for her as a kid was “beebop” and it stuck, was good enough to make my Christmas. Dena and my sisters have carried a heavy load this year I only wish I had been able to help more.

  19. Neganon2 may make his point the wrong way however a significant number of Celtic fans agree with it.

On other Celtic boards and talking to fans in general the feeling is that Lawwell has not supported the requisitioners. Effectively 20 years of cheating sanctioned and then covered up by the SFA has been accepted by the club. Fergus wouldn’t have stood for it.

Regarding Neganon2 point about the blogs host — he is only saying what is on other blogs in particular a recent thread on the HB. He has never called out Lawwells failings and is an apologist for him—nothing wrong with that its his choice.

Lawwell is happy to have the £10M back —anything else is smoke and mirrors.

Wish the announcement was about Lawwells exit as he cost the club £50Mof revenue with his Norwegian project.

  20. Neganon

How could you ever prove that a Celtic story in the Record was planted by Peter Lawwell or anyone?

Is it enough for you to start with that premise to then take it as an accepted fact.

If you then start to build on that premise to say that Paul Brennan re-iterated that view, merely by saying something similar, therefore he is in cahoots.

When does the need for evidence come into it when you can make your entire attack on supposition? Would you accept similar tactics being used towards yourself?

  21. Owen….

I had no idea you and Dena and as she says “wee me” …were related…but there was huge sigh through Paul Brennans blog when we heard the grand news…wonderful…you and all of us did our very best…slainte

If you’re lurking I read JP’s replies to the Q&A on the OBaF Act. I’d suggest that you ask Marie regarding the truth about passing on information to the police. It will differ hugely from Celtic’s response.

I have regularly said that Celtic Board have made mistakes.
