CELTIC’S double winner Matt O’Riley will miss OUT on next month’s Euro 24 Finals in Germany.
Denmark head coach Kasper Hjulmand has astoundingly overlooked the champions’ star performer after CQN stated earlier today the international boss didn’t rate the Premiership.
However, we still believed O’Riley had contributed enough to earn a place in his adopted nation’s final 26-man squad which was revealed this afternoon.
THE DANES FOR GERMANY…Kasper Hjulmand’s 26-man squad.
Hjulmand, though, clearly didn’t agree that the 23-year-old London-born playmaker had done enough to earn a place in his country’s travelling squad for the soccer extravaganza.
The boss told local media sources: “Matt’s been a really good player, he’s had a great season. I’ve picked six players that we can move around a bit. It’s been at the expense of Matt, but it was a tough choice.
“I know he’s going to play a lot of international games. He couldn’t do anything differently.”
Quizzed about the major decision, the gaffer added: “There have been some difficult choices. I can’t just say three, because there are more than three who deserve to play. Matt O’Riley is one.”
The classy middle-of-the-park operator, who has earned two full caps, will be disappointed to miss out on the big stage on this occasion – especially with the Danes due to play England on June 20.
O’Riley swept the boards at the Celtic Player of the Year awards and completed a memorable campaign with 19 goals, making him joint top marksman beside Kyogo Furuhashi.
