Short-term fix for staple Euro strategy

985

There’s always a bit of reticence signing a player who has been away from his previous club for four months. Carlton Cole hasn’t played since starting West Ham’s final games of last season, and presumably has only trained in isolation since then.

Expectations of a quick return, should Celtic offer him a contract, have to be tempered with the realisation that he’ll be at least a month away from full fitness, but by then we will be set to face Molde away.

One aspect of our play that will concern Ronny Deila is that we’re short of attacking variation. The high ball forward to Samaras, so long our staple on the road in Europe, is not an option. This will be the reason why Carlton is training at Lennoxtown this week.

I’d expect a short-term deal to be concluded between now and January, to give both sides a chance to check out the fit.

Playing football for fun? It’ll never catch on!……………

“It says a lot about him (Carlton Cole). He’s earned his money and it’s not as if he’d earn nothing here – the money is quite OK!” said Ronny Deila.

“It shows that he wants to enjoy the last years of his career and enjoy the last few years of his football. He’s a lovely guy and at his age you start to think that the bank account doesn’t always make you happy. When you don’t have money you think it’s the only thing in the world. Then when you have it you realise that it doesn’t make you happy.

Money gives you freedom – and he now has the freedom to come here and play for less money but to have more fun. That’s a big thing for a player.”

“To lose a game in the early stages of the cup is the worst thing – I’ve had good and bad experiences in that regard – but we’ll be doing everything we can to win tomorrow night.”

Ronny-D, BEFORE the huns got dumped last night!

  4. Tomorrow night Ronny needs to resist the temptation to play the in form players and bring in a few backups.

Craig needs a wee rest to protect him from injury

I’d like to see a CB partnership of Boyata and Simunovic to let their understanding grow and to get both of them closer to full match fitness.

Lustig needs wrapped in cotton wool and since Izzy is unavailable for the EL game we should field Janko and Blacket as the full backs.

Broonie wont want to sit the game out but we can’t afford to lose his drive and cussedness from more competitive upcoming games. I’d put him on the bench in case we screw up the first half and need captain courageous to rescue the game.

Bitton could do with a wee rest as it’s Yom Kippur (I couldn’t come up with a novel reason to leave him out :-) )

Ciftci needs a start to attain match fitness and Leigh needs some time off to collect his Tunnock’s tea cake parcel from Uddingston.

So feel free to discredit the following line up

or just to ignore and scroll past

    Bailly

    Janko, Boyata, Simunovic, Blackett

    Johansen, Rogic, Mulgrew, Forrest

    GG,

Earlier you said (about Cole) “I’d rather we gave the likes of Nesbitt, Lafferty or Duffy a run out from the bench or even a start.”

I tend to agree that at least one of those should start tonight, preferably Nesbitt, but you don’t include any in your selected line-up. I’m just sittin’ here wonderin’ why?

  6. I just watched the goals from the development squad match against Accies.

I didn’t see the line ups, so maybe the youngsters didn’t start.

We lost Accies’ goal from a free kick headed down on to the scorer.

I didn’t see enough to determine whether we were using zonal or man marking.

Has the UK lost it’s moral compass?

    What Al Gore actually said..

“The UK’s historic legacy of leadership on the most important moral issues faced by humanity, including the climate crisis, is long and has been recognised with respect by the community of nations.

“It is time for the UK government to honour and live up to that legacy, and return to its global leadership position, domestically and abroad, by supporting an ambitious international agreement in Paris that unleashes the power of the private sector to create a global clean energy economy.”

This government, in my humble opinion, doesn’t have any integrity, time and again it is playing fast and loose with the country’s moral rectitude and is only brought to book if the polls reveal a public dislike of their chosen path. Referring to refugees as a ‘swarm’ one week and then quickly backtracking following the pictures of Aylan Kurdi and Tory private polling is the latest example.

I believe this country has indeed lost it’s moral compass, the US led and UK obedient lapdog obedience of the corporate led dog eat dog culture of this last 40 years is obliterating the social and moral compass of this country.

Decisions about such issues as refugees and global warming are based primarily on corporate considerations, moral considerations are way down the list of aspects to deliberate on.

As always, I only have a very short time to catch up with CQN during the week but I will catch up with any reply and respond when I can.
