Short-term fix for staple Euro strategy

985

There’s always a bit of reticence signing a player who has been away from his previous club for four months. Carlton Cole hasn’t played since starting West Ham’s final games of last season, and presumably has only trained in isolation since then.

Expectations of a quick return, should Celtic offer him a contract, have to be tempered with the realisation that he’ll be at least a month away from full fitness, but by then we will be set to face Molde away.

One aspect of our play that will concern Ronny Deila is that we’re short of attacking variation. The high ball forward to Samaras, so long our staple on the road in Europe, is not an option. This will be the reason why Carlton is training at Lennoxtown this week.

I’d expect a short-term deal to be concluded between now and January, to give both sides a chance to check out the fit.

Oh dear. Looks like RS – ahem – spent so long talking about the rugby that they didn’t have time to talk about the football. Totally accidental I’m sure…..

Although a great believer in Freedom of Speech and each to their own opinion, I find lots of ‘stuff’ on the site;usually from the same people,or protagonists does’ half test your beliefs.Last night’s ‘diatribes’ from both sides were absolutely puerile. Not one person will ever be persuaded they are ‘in the wrong’ because they are ‘not in the wrong’ ! They just don’t agree with someone else. I am glad I started supporting Celtic when I did as I thought we lost because the other team beat us; not because we were mince, bought nothing but duds, had rubbish or worse managers(strange how they kept their job so long) etc., I could go on .The one thing I would comment upon is that if you are a Tim who has not experienced discrimination or sectarianism you missed the best feeling in the world when you tell them ‘Aye and proud of it and I don’t sit in the back of the bus and keep my trap shut.’ Let’s keep on track for a treble tonight.

Indeed. They certainly weren’t short of time to speak about it for days leading up to the game!

  6. I tuned into bbc Scotland radio this morning to hear the sports bulletin.

Imagine my surprise when the match which yesterday was beig trumpeted as the greatest clash of the titans this season so far at ibrox appears not to have even taken place.

Nor are any scottish league cup games worthy of mention tonight.

    North Korea CSC.

  7. Looks like Robert Lewandowski is hitting form at the wrong time for Scotland.

5 quality goals scored in 9 minutes was an incredible feat last night.

He would look good in the Hoops! :)

Dearie me, reading back over the blog last night was hard going. Good football chat until CQN’s very own Pastor Jack Glass appeared and moved the chat from football to his pet subject. Very poor, not a peep put of him over the weekend on a good result and display, but then again he doesn’t go to the games. Uses the blog to spout his boring bile whilst attacking anyone who has the slightest alternative opinion. It’s not wonder more and more people are turning away from what was once a very good Celtic blog.

Match on tonight, hopefully we can stick to football for a day…

  13. MURDOCHAULDANDHAY & WEE OSCAR on 23RD SEPTEMBER 2015 9:36 AM

The” bad language” coming from the stands at sevco last night was shocking enough though maybe the commentator should have looked closer to home :)

Be fair. It is nothing to do with the denizens of snake mountain.

It is all to do with those damned mics becoming more sensitive.

It’s a malaise that’s not confined to this site, it cuts through Scottish society, and it started with the referendum.

    Nationalism is divisive.

    Who’d have thunk it.

I just wish the nats would concentrate on telling us about all the great things they’ve done to date with the powers and the mandate they have, rather than tell us about how great it will all be if only we left the UK.

Surely they must have achieved something so far?

What about health? education? law and order?

    The price of oil?

They must have something for them to boast about.

On a related subject I saw a bit of the Team Perth game last night on BBC Scotland and what struck me most forcibly was the bias of the commentary and punditry. There wasn’t even a pretence of balance. It’s that whole cultural hegemony thing again.

Scotland is an odd wee place.

  16. BMCUW,

It’s amazing how people only see what they want to see, everything rolling along nicely then BGX comes on and deliberately changes the subject to start a political infight. The last thing he writes is a challenge to take on all comers, the same guy who claims he never starts political debates, true colours last night.

Ernie – I’m not going there, I want to know if Jozo will play tonight, will some of the fringe players get a run out or will we play our strongest team. If you read back a few people tried to change the flow with posts about football, totally ignored as it wasn’t on the agenda…

  20. West End of East End on 23rd September 2015 10:04 am ………………..I take my hat off to NegAnon for the way he played the zealots, homophobes and idiots ganged against him last night.

The outed themselves for what they really represent last night…….and it was ugly, bullying, nationalism at its worst.

    Credit where its due.

  21. Liam Macleod done the radio commentary for the recent Georgia v Scotland game.

He’s no Rangers fan. He’s simply an annoying wee erse.

  22. I was a bit disappointed on the coverage the game at ibrox got on here, it was a running commentary, better than some of our game commentaries recently.

I read some even videoed the game and appeared proud to claim that, old firmism hasn’t really went anywhere has it.

  23. I hopeas many Celtic fans as can make it get along tonight to cheer out team on.

I want to win every game. I also get some pleasure from the misery of these media manipulators as Celtic win another gAme and hopefully another trophy

I refused to believe there were non football agenda’s on CQN, after last night I am not so sure.

One of the pluses of this blog is its diversity. It’s a blog ,we debate, we argue and we can agree to disagree. I agree with BMCUW that was cyber bullying; nothing less.

On another note the Huns getting grubbed has prompted me to go and get a ticket for tonight. I still think we should play a fringe team tho.

Highlights last night was bbc commentary team virtually suicidal at points, the crowd of Zombies still chanting WATP …. Even when getting a severe doing ( the don’t do irony do they?) the killer 3rd goal by the impressive Michael O’Halloran … The tortured face of Warburton at the end failing to disguise his burst bubble…

  29. THE EXILED TIM on 23rd September 2015 10:36 am

Yep. I doubt me and NA have ever seen eye to eye on anything, but it’s never got uncivil. There’s a reason for that. Far too many are too thin skinned for blogs. The second somebody disagrees with them it’s toys out the pram and personal insults.

  30. West End of East End,absolutely spot on mate, boring repetitive nonsense never anything Celtic related unless its abuse.I have tried to engage with him in the past but its like talking to a brick wall as my mother would say.

Not sure if I’ll get to the game tonight work is a nightmare at the moment, will need to drive over and hopefully catch some of the first half at least.Last nights fun and games at ibrox were really enjoyable, never thought the Saintees would turn over Barca so easily……………..
