Short-term fix for staple Euro strategy

985

There’s always a bit of reticence signing a player who has been away from his previous club for four months. Carlton Cole hasn’t played since starting West Ham’s final games of last season, and presumably has only trained in isolation since then.

Expectations of a quick return, should Celtic offer him a contract, have to be tempered with the realisation that he’ll be at least a month away from full fitness, but by then we will be set to face Molde away.

One aspect of our play that will concern Ronny Deila is that we’re short of attacking variation. The high ball forward to Samaras, so long our staple on the road in Europe, is not an option. This will be the reason why Carlton is training at Lennoxtown this week.

I’d expect a short-term deal to be concluded between now and January, to give both sides a chance to check out the fit.

    – agreed.

There’s a very obvious difference between genuine credible tims with alternate views on Our Great Club

and Neg is a genuine tim…..and the sleekits.

  2. Best thing about last night was that we won’t need to play them in that tournament, just need them out the Scottish then no fun for the old firm junkies……………great!!

Reflecting on the bookies – did they get it wrong or did they double bluff the punters?

  4. I am looking forward to tonight’s match even if some suggest we should not take the LC seriously; RD will be judged on the trophies he wins so for me he should play a team and tactics to win tonight. Even if we balance the team with fringe players, youth and experienced players, we should not underestimate Raith Rovers – this is their chance of glory.

  5. Same team for me tonight that stared against Dundee. Will not be happy if Johansen starts,.

When I first started posting on here, it was a place where there was quality debate, nobody fell out, now it’s look at me, look at me, and as you say when someone posts something they don’t like it’s personal.

Now as I understand it, personal insults are the number one rule on the blog as a no no, yet these winkers are disrupting the blog with impunity to suit their agenda.

We now have posters who only post criting others when they post something they don’t agree with, nothing of substance whatsoever., their OF agenda is shining through big time.

Reading back this morning, it still seems that NA2 is the devil incarnate, you stick to your guns Neg, don’t let the scum win.

I appreciate it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but what went on from 2011 to end 2012 should be part of the Celtic folklore apart from establishing a professional responsive SFA.

The podcast is from my perspective on matters but if it had not been for the hard work by the other guys there would have been no perspective to give.

  8. Greenpinta,

Disagree on wholesale changes, think its time we started trying to get a settled team and those who produced the best game and result should be the benchmark, Sunday’s game for me is the benchmark this season. Limited team rotation from here on in, we want to win everything we play for and the best way to do that in my expert opinion is put our best team on the park every time, it gives the team continuity and helps them know each other better on the park, only injuries, bans, drop in form and as I said limited player rotation should changes be made. If a player turns a game or makes a marked impact he keeps his place, players need to win a place in the team and hold that place on merit and nothing more.

This is a big change in tac for me, originally I liked the rotation strategy but think it’s created instability and now believe continuity is more important but not to the extent that players can be selected through bad form patches, we are supposed to have the squad with good players so we do to need to watch players out of sorts take 5 or 6 games to get their form back, replace them and let them win their place back when the opportunity comes.

  9. expat,

Yup. Until we state pre-tournament we won’t be playing strongest team and make it free entry I’m hoping we win all we enter.

Rovers could make it sticky for us. They have assembled an OK championship side full of decent pros, many who have played at a higher level

  12. I was at the Morton game a couple of seasons ago,a straightforward no nonsense victory tonight is required and expected.Give Ciftci a start and play the two young full backs, play the first choice CB pairing they need the game time and rest Broonie.

In the world in which he operates the accepted view is that what is good for the huns is good for Scottish football as a whole, and that includes all those, such as himself, who make their living from Scottish football.

    Hence the bias.

  14. THE EXILED TIM,I agreed with most of your post then you ruined it with the last sentence,so if you don’t agree you are scum? How do you equate that with the first three paragraphs?

The risk is that it will become like the Celtic version of the Schleswig-Holstein Question, with you in the role of Lord Palmerston

“Only three people have ever really understood the Schleswig-Holstein business—the Prince Consort, who is dead—a German professor, who has gone mad—and I, who have forgotten all about it.”

    Nonetheless, I salute your indefatigably.

I think you should have warned us the podcast was 70 minutes. :))))

I have listened to the first 7 and paused it asi have to off oot.

If the remaining 63 minutes are as informative then I would advise all with an interest to take the time to “educate” ourselves.

Again thanks to the res 12 four who are perusing this. I do think that the passage of time though will not help.

    Good luck

    HH to you.

Had a wee read at monkey media lasnite and some of the more respected and rational (i know) posters reckoned that King promised money for players so when they go up everything will be fine,if not King will be chased.

Now if n when that happens what does it say about the Hun hoardes who have continually backed snake oil salesmen until they’ve had to be removed?

Will they then realise that they really are the mugs everybody else knows they are or will they blame the SFA and UFH?

There was no such thing as the “British and Irish Empire”.

There was the British Empire, however. We will not be tarred with that brush. Ireland was under British military occupation. Like many other parts of the world, our people endured their brutality, racism, oppression and contrived famines.

But you already knew that, Troll.

  20. Too many blind fools on here.Sticking up for Neganon !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.Show me one post he has made concerning the Celtic team, what players played well, who did not. After Sundays game, our best display of the season,he was,not surprisingly to the more clued up,absent from the blog. Its what he does. The first wiff of anything political,he is in like a shot, spouting his usual hatred of all things Scottish,or SNP.

I know his hatred of the SNP,goes down very well with many on here.I have no problems with people not liking other peoples politics, but to say he ,the worst offender on here,is being bullied,is utter guff.He is arrogant, aloof in the way he talks down to other posters, and quite frankly, utterly boring.Same diatribe every day he posts.Full of mock indignation into the bargain. His attack on a poster for daring to mention”The Dug”was totally ridiculous and unwarranted. He was literally,”Like a Dug with a bone”

His anti SNP supporters on here, need to take stock of their own behaviour when it comes to the political debates. They are no better than the other side who they think they have the right to criticize for their comments.

We might not hear too much from him today though.Probably at the A&E,trying to find out why there are so many toe nails sticking out of his rear end.

The SMSM is part of an elaborate betting scam. Tell the world how good the huns are, everyone buys into it. Wait for the bookies to offer a ridiculous price, say 4/1 v superior opposition, and wade in.

A lot of these betting rings seem to be Middle-East based. But no reason why they can’t be based in,for example,South Africa.

Turkeybhoy,I hesitate as I post this because I’m not trying to start a debate on the topic but I agree with everything you posted.Seems like everyone on the blog is on one side or the other and thus have a myopic view of the posts from anyone on the same side as themselves. After last nights nonsense how anyone can come down on the side of one or the other is beyond me.

Increasingly there are many posters whom I scroll by,I don’t need to read them to know what they will post.

Canamalar – I’m coming round to your way of thinking, play the strongest team until a dip in form. It’s then up to the player who replaces the off form guy to hold his position. Suspensions will play a part, same strategy applies, if the player who replaces him is on form he stays in the team. I no longer want to see change for changes sake…players will know they have to fight to keep their place…

  29. Unlike some first time this season have watched Rangers in any form last night

So wee message to Dave King if you really believe your project will be challenging Celtic or any other club in the SPL next season you had better get them reintroduced into FIFA 16 pronto

  30. Greenpinta,

It is always intended to be seen through to the end, time was never a limitation though there was fear that there were time limitations or expiry issues but it appears the with the evidence gathered confirming the questionable corporate administration of competition and hegemony issues, all the stuff identified in the res, there are no time limits.

Ideally those who have moved on would have been in power to face the charges but when you employ professional expertise it can’t be rushed, to ensure you are not still chasing squirrels you need to employ and heed the advice of professional expertise.

There are times when we could have moved quicker and there are times when we could have given up on some squirrels sooner but every squirrel chase killed of an avenue we don’t need to revisit. When all the squirrels were chased out the park we employed professionals to review what we had found and got their opinions.

Now the SFA are refusing to deal with us, another delay but we’ll just keep on plugging away in our short trousers and skint knees :)
