Should Celtic Splash The Cash For Frank

0

It has been a very mixed and frustrating season for the Celtic faithful and with the double return of the legend that is Martin O’Neill to Parkhead when we were left in the lurch by former gaffer Brendan Rodgers, and then left ourselves in the lurch with the bizarre and childish appointment of Wilfried Nancy, we somehow remain in the hunt for the Scottish Premiership title in the 2025/26 campaign.

We also remain in the hunt for a new permanent gaffer as we know our serial winning dug out master will be off again come the start of the summer. For readers turning a UK break into a football weekend, Premier League tickets via Hellotickets fits naturally into the plan and London based Brentford and Tottenham Hotspur could be two likely destinations. They are also former haunts for head coach Thomas Frank and he seems to be the new flavour of the month in the media for our job.

With the second phase post split now with us, we have battled our way back into second place in the domestic table and are only trailing current league leaders and long term table toppers Heart of Midlothian by three points. With the title still within our reach and having missed out on this years League Cup, hopes of a Scottish Cup win also remain alive following revenge over St Mirren earlier this month.

Given the games that remain in the season and are yet to be played in the month of May, the league is in our own hands if we continue to put in the performances that earn it and avoid anymore slip ups, there would be no better preparation for a potential double when we face Dunfermline in the Scottish Cup Final at the end of the month.

It would certainly provide the atmosphere, the uplift and the renewal of the foundations for the challenges that any new gaffer – let alone the 52 year old Denmark former midfielder – would love to come in on given all the changes that fans themselves know we need to the make up of the first team squad, and the changes that will effectively be forced on us with contracts coming to an end and other players going into the final 12 months of their existing deals.

Frank’s stock remains very high given his exploits at Brentford and the outfit he further helped turn them into whilst they largely sold off their marketable stars each and every summer, and his very poor spell at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has not really touched him given how a poor a squad he actually inherited and their longer term form that started with the well known Ange Postecoglou and has now moved on to Roberto De Zerbi with no noticeable improvement under four different managers.

The issue with Frank is he would likely be a very expensive option compared to some of the other names doing the rounds, and whilst he would presumably want quite a large transfer budget on top, there is no real track record of success and dealing with expectations as anything above midtable for Brentford was a huge achievement.

In some ways it is not so much whether or not we would be willing to meet his demands, the real question would be whether or not he was the right man to back.
