For those who weren’t there yesterday, Motherwell could have had five in the second half. Twice they were clean through with Craig Gordon to beat, but couldn’t, and on another occasion Craig was stranded off his line during a penalty box scramble which could have ended either way.
By contrast, Celtic were anaemic. We struggled to open a packed Motherwell defence –Nir Bitton’s deflected goal was a consequence of Motherwell having so many players to in front of their keeper.
Motherwell did well, Scott McDonald in particular, but they were repeatedly given the Freedom of Celtic Park. It goes without saying but we need to tighten up. A new system is required, one which will protect the defence. At the risk of sounding like the proverbial broken record, we need a defensive mid. Anyone can open us up without someone standing guard.
You know the rumour mill is doing its thing when you receive 15 texts on the same subject. Ronny is not about to leave Celtic.

With the greatest respect possession by itself means absolutely nothing!
How much possession did we have that night against Barca? Does that mean we should not have taken the result?
A team has to be balanced between defenders and attackers. Currently we aren’t – as P67 has pointed out!what disturbs me more is that Ronny shows no sign of even acknowledging that we need that balance. 3 transfer windows – no defensive mid!
It like the late TB’s insistence on signing more and more forwards while being unable to defend for toffee!
It eventually cost TB his job and it will eventually cost RD his – despite what P67 says the support recognise a dead man walking! It might take until next August but it will happen!
Unfortunately by then we will have missed out yet again on the CL!

I was there yesterday and that was as poor a performance as I’ve seen for a long time.
“When you get 15 texts saying the same thing” then it is clear that we are as good at PR as the team on the other side of the city.
The glaring deficiencies in our squad, team, and tactics were laid bare for all to see yesterday.
My brother and I joked leaving the stadium that the reason that some players seem to be better that they were is because the rest of the squad has diminished so much!
But on reflection that is not as humorous as it is factual.
When you downsize by buying players that from teams that your club is continually beating you simply have a collection of inferior players. Some may develop but it is a simple reality that most will not.
For all we hear about fitness and hard training at Lennoxtown no one seems to be able to explain why our players look shattered after 70 minutes. Our players are simply over trained.
We move the ball far too slowly through the midfield and no one is breaking their back to get up to support the poor sole picked to play the abandoned individual up front. Teams are continually allowed time to get back and reform.
Having said that we were through at least four on two twice in the second half and I don’t think either move culminated with a shot on target. All of our players instead of fanning out forcing the defenders apart converged on the centre of goal making it far too easy to defend. It was appalling decision making by all concerned.
Tactics are now becoming so predictable it is embarrassing.
Football and football tactics are constantly evolving. When we played Barcelona a few years ago we recognised that they would have to play through us as they had no physical presence up front. We also had an inspired keeper to keep them out. Motherwell did exactly the same yesterday compacting the middle of the box and forcing us to attempt crosses as we were unable to play through them but, and this is where we have to be honest with ourselves, we do not have the quality players to do it.
The lack of ability to tactically change a game from the side lines is now becoming a real concern. The same set up, the same tactics, the same intransigence week after week is stifling the players that we have without the ability to change the glaringly obvious is a real and on going concern.
As I said above football is a constantly changing sport. Leicester and Watford are currently thriving in the EPL playing 4-4-2. Yes Watford and Leicester need I say more besting teams that have spent 10, 20, 30 times more than they have.
These issues are not going to go away and here is a news flash for Ronnie neither is Aberdeen. Simply because you out spend everyone doesn’t mean you are guaranteed success. How in the name of sanity can Celtic, yes Celtic, end up with one only recognised forward at the club!!
Our club is now in danger of losing, what Paul has described as a generation of dominance, through our own incompetence and dare I say it arrogance.
On Saturday we unveiled a statue to a man who got the bus to training, who trained in the most basic of conditions and yet, with his team mates, conquered Europe and dominated Scottish football for a decade. The outside of our stadium has been transformed for the better but the fare on the park has been transformed for the worse.
“Fur coat and no knickers” springs to mind.
What’s been good tonight is the way we have discussed our differing opinions.
OK there’s been one or two wee nips, but nothing major.

I have said since the middle of last season that RD isn’t up to the job, and yesterday was on a par with the worst of the Mowbray, Barnes, Macari and Brady eras.

But in general they do have a huge amount of possession, and win most of their games, playing some of the best football I’ve seen.
I haven’t said we have no problems and we are the finished article, I don’t believe we are.
I do believe we can get to a point where we play attractive, winning football consistently.
And I do believe Ronny can get us there, given time and backing, and I don’t just mean financial.

Ok, we are where we are cos we are where we are.
I reckon that John Park has much more influence on the footballing side than many of us are aware.
Rightly or wrongly I believe he decides who we buy, the players are scouted, the coach is told who is coming in, on occasion he may be given the choice between player A or B, he chooses player A so he gets the kudos or blame if they work out or not.
Now the reason I am saying I believe JP has a massive influence over footballing matters…….cast your mind back to the semi against Ross Cty, when Lenny hadn’t long taken over and we got pumper oot.
It was John Park that Lenny was going to in the stand, it was JP that was giving Lenny instructions, I was gobsmacked when I saw it, I watched the game with my son in law, a Ross Cty fan, and he remarked on it as well, why in gods name would Lenny be asking him for advice unless he has a role at the club that many of us are not aware of.
Jason Denayer back in January is the best suggestion I have read on here recently.

Gerry, we have never had a divine right to win and I’m sorry if it came across that way.
I was trying to point out that we have more to contend with in the tactics other teams only appear to play against us and know when they play us , the ref will be lenient with them.
When we lost to Killie in the 2012 League Cup final , I was more annoyed about the way we lost rather than the loss. Our players , that day , just thought turning up was enough and we couldn’t match the Killie players’ work rate .
I don’t like us losing but if the players have given their all , we can’t ask for anymore.

Lawwell knows he is on thin ice with Dermot after blocking his fellow Cork man. O’Neil speaking so highly of Keane today on Sky’s Goals on Sunday was revealing. I would take Martins recommendation over beancounter Lawwells every day of the week.
I suspect Lawwell only found out this evening that Dermot is not here to sack him and Ronny for incompetence ( at the moment ) ; hence the loud sigh of relief and the rushed message to Paul67 to pass the message to the Celtic support ASAP. Interestingly no major spin from Paul67 supporting Ronny — which suggests he knows the support have lost all patience with the Norwegian project/puppet.
If Lawwell sees the season out he will once again collect his bonus taking his package to £1M/year as we watch the worst Celtic side in 15 seasons. A generation of domination indeed.
