Shrinking the squad, and an update

454

I’d hopes Dedryck Boyata would bask in the reflective glory of being part of a fancied Belgium squad at the forthcoming Euros. It would enhance is reputation and perceived value, but alas, his injury has ruled him out, and will likely mean he’ll miss Champions League qualifiers, so he’s on the payroll and in the stand for at least a portion of next season.

News that Colin Kazim-Richards will travel to Brazil to discuss a move there will help Brendan Rodger’s attempts to bring the squad size down to a more reasonable level, as Carlton Cole’s pay-as-you-play arrangement will formally become a don’t-pay-as-you’re-not-playing further clears the decks. This leaves only, Leigh Griffiths and returning strikers Anthony Stokes and Stefan Scepovic, who will, at most, be a bit-part players.

Getting it right with the next striker to sign is important after so many misfires.

We’re finally seeing some movement on Res 12 issues. The advert will first appear in the principle business newspaper in Nyon, where Uefa have their headquarters. Will update you as and when. We’re going to run the UK ad after the Swiss story, so nothing here tomorrow.

Oh, and there was no legal action or threats thereof last night. We had a tactical rethink and pulled a related article, nothing more.

Understand your point, but surely the unforseen publication ‘pitfalls’ apparently affecting an advertisement expressing the opinion of an ‘interested’ party, is a sharp reminder to those desperate for Celtic to ‘go in hard’?

My worry is that we antagonise those at UEFA, who have much bigger things on their plate, with a advertisement that ends up not being published in the UK.

The fact that no paper in Scotland will publish is worrying in the message that it sends. UEFA may think that if we cannot get the press in our homeland to carry the story, does it really ‘hold water’.

Now I know that the SMSM are part of the problem and have an agenda not to support us – but do others know this and share our view?

Seems that the desired outcome is that ‘heads will roll’ in SFA. Obviously they know this and are using everything in their power to ‘stay alive’ – there could be a backlash.

I am not saying that we should not seek answers, I am just worried that we are ‘painting ourselves into a corner’.

    ========

    Whoose.

You cannot paint yourself into any corner when you have the truth as a brush.

You can end up in a corner when you are afraid of the consequences of seeking the truth.

The exiled tim, I work with a Leeds fan who hates some of the Leeds support as they are total scumbags.

Its a club I can not stand and would have preferred it if they were gone. Even though that fine man, Eddie Grey, played for them , they were a team I refused to like.

Evan Willams has a few tales to tell about the semi final games against them and how they were such a dirty team but they never reckoned on our players being better and tougher than Revie’s crew.

I know wot you mean, never liked them masel and I have no idea why.

A fair few good Tims over the years have played for them as well, the EC games against them were special, I was at the hampden game, all I recall was getting crushed in the Celtic end, the english have always looked down their noses at us in scotland and it’s only been this past few years that they have been justified, just a short time back in MoN’s era we skelped them big time, then the money really kicked in.

  8. Spent the morning climbing upto the dizzy heights of the Cupola of St Peters Basilica, fantastic! The rest of the day spent in wonderment at the sights we saw.

Had a few sherbets along the way, but still,in awe of the glory of the place. Came down and touched the tomb of the Jacobite Kings in the entrance of St Peters, God is good indeed.

The exiled tim, the anti fascist paper, I think it is/was called Spotlight, published a list of the ten most offensive and racist fans in Britain. Leeds were top then Millwall second. The former club with unsurpassed dignity were fourth.

My real dislike of them started when a crowd of us were on holiday in Portugal twenty five years go.

There was a crowd of around fifty Leeds fans there aged between eighteen and about fifty. A complete and utter shower of s@@@e with the older ones’ behaviour appalling. As soon as we saw them we went elsewhere for a swallay.

It’s a braw looking evening up in Cork so it is.

    ———————————-

    Last words of Micael Collins?

  11. Auldheid,

I wouldn’t worry too much about them. The more transparent the Res 12 guys are about who is blocking the better. In Scotland there is a handful of people who cut it at the sharp end and there sure ain’t any in the SFA or the media.

I noted WC comments that Res 12 Team meet their objectives tomorrow and hope to influence what happens next. Surprised by those comments as this is an important step tomorrow but hopefully not the final step.

I had a look online at the Tribune de Geneva and the main story is Messi followed by the tennis ; it has a 65k circulation and hopefully it is on UEFAs radar.

I still believe Lawwell could have done much more with Petrie, Thomson and Co. to flush out Sevco— but he chose not to at the time. I hear from people who spoke to him 1-1 that he didn’t expect Newco to enter top flight and let it flow. Never once did he try to influence or step in like the former Diageo executive that ran Raith Rovers ( Turnbull Hutton RIP ).

I really hope tomorrow helps open the gates to truth, transperency and justice. Certainly it will be a form of satisfaction for the Res 12 team to take it this far. It’s just a pity Lawwell played his usual double agent game.

PS. I hope the Julie’s ( colloquial term ) have been informed that the nethenderals have mastered Twitter as well as posting bombs and bullets.

PPS. London Times would be better than Guardian as it is read here in London extensively versus the Guardian and is also damaging The Heralds circulation. Compare the sports journos like Michael Grant and Graeme Spiers to buffoons like Matt “orange tie ” Lindsay / Chris “union ” Jack who pen their articles with crayons.

  12. Evening all,

I don’t post on here often but i do spend probably more time than is healthy, reading, being educated, and entertained on these pages.

On the eve of the Resolution 12 press advertisement(s), i had to log in and say a few words of thanks to the guys who have carried Res. 12 to this point. To everyone who has been involved in pushing this forward, for the sacrifices you have made, the hours you have put in, the determination and tenacity to carry the fight to the people who have done us wrong, we, as a support owe you so much.

Without your attitude and willingness to seek justice and truth, this issue would, I have no doubt, been swept under the carpet, and forgotten about.

Even if nothing comes of this ( and we have to face the probability that there will be tremendous efforts made to deflect, negate and discredit, by those cowards and liars who will stand accused of cheating not only us, but Scottish Football as a whole), I’m eternally grateful to you all for being our voice, and refusing to give up. You make me proud to be a Celtic Supporter.

One more thing – if funding is required for anything which you may face as a result of your endeavours, count me in. We owe you guys.

    hail hail !!!

Never come across that paper, will need to look out for it.

I believe after Man U , Leeds are the most hated club in England by fans of other clubs. The songs they sing when they play Spurs are disgusting.

The exiled tim, another reason for me to dislike the Arse.

The Arse get all this praise and they sometimes play fantastic football, but two FA cups in eleven years , is not much to get excited about.

The manager with the worst eyesight in football seems to think getting in the champions league is all that counts.

When we played them in the qualifier years ago, the Arse players particulary the horrible Fabregas , behaviour on the pitch could have been better.

The onie positive thing about the Arse is their support is one of the very few in England where you see plenty of supporters who are black at their games.

  24. Gordon,

You’re an absolute gem, mate. Thanks very much for taking the time to recount the season in such detail at times. I only missed 67 by about 2 years and though I thought I knew all that was needed to know about that season, only recently realised that I knew very little about that year, and wanted to find out everything to try and get a feel for it.

Thanks to Teuchter ar la as well for bringing Jim’s site to my attention. Certainly hope to have a thorough read through it as it will probably give a fantastic insight into what it was like to be there.

Thanks again mate and be lucky….by the way, never say we’ll never get our name on the big cup for a second time…we’re a sleeping giant who may just be about to wake up.

I stand in awe of those who are making this newspaper advert happen. However, can I ask whether this confirms our board have decided not to pursue this themselves?

I have read, both here and elsewhere, that this is a complex issue and as such the board cannot pursue this purely as a football or business issue. Social unrest and all that.

Yet I believe the premis of the advert is that this is a very simple issue and should be considered simply as a football or business issue.

    Am I wrong?

    Am I mad?

In an attempt to close this question, are the plc board actively involved or merely ‘supporting’? As a shareholder of some years, I wish them to be leading the fight against any illicit business activities which have deflated my earnings potential.

Conscious my local time is out of sync with CPT so apologies if I’m a little removed from the general thread
