Shuffling for spare seats in Lisbon Lions, Mikael’s woes

398

I’m loving the positivity which surrounds season ticket sales at the moment. You can imagine staff at the Ticket Office bouncing into work these days to deal with another new scenario. Today’s news is that a deadline of this Friday has been made for existing season ticket holders to relocate to the newly opened Upper Lisbon Lions section, before the remaining seasons are made available.

There’s now a high probability that Celtic and Hearts will both have waiting lists for season tickets, with Aberdeen not far behind. Even Hibs are felling their own Irish manager effect, as they target 10,000 ticket sales.

Pretty gutted Mikael Lustig retired at half time in Sweden’s game against Ireland yesterday because of a groin injury. Injury has been the story of Mikael’s life over the last couple of years, which will cast a shadow over the rest of his career. Sweden can continue to select him, when fit, but Celtic will need to cater for the reality that he may miss a lot of football going forward.

It’s also unlikely that he’ll attract a transfer (or sail through a medical). With the right levels of rest and preparatory work, he should be able to compete at the top level for another three years at least, but for much of that time Mikael is destined to be a bit part player.

Watching the Iceland lads and crowd during their Anthem.

Feeling they were lovimg every moment and why not. A country with a population the size of Auld Reekie and they qualified for a tournamanet Scotland has consistently failed to make any impact on.

The state of our national game is a joke!! We are still paying for Souness and years of never, never largesse buying in from continetnal leagues rather than develop our own has killed off our game for a generation.

We all got caught up in it demanding more and more imports and denying our homegrown talent the path to flourish.

I’m hoping we don’t try to go back down that same stoney path in the Brendan era, always room to buy in the odd gem and not suggesting we shouldn’t, however, we must bring through our own kids and create real opportunities to get them onto the pitch.

Celtic must lead on this as the only superpower left in Scottish fitba. If wenow go out and start buying in foreign players for every position We have missed a huge opportunity!

Iceland just lost a goal after 30 minutes!

I’m hoping the Iceland team can grab a goal to give their fans something to really cheer!

  2. Regarding Res12 ad, I doubt that any UEFA official will take it up. UEFA rely on SFA to apply rules and accept whatever they tell them. Here in Scotland it will just be ignored. So needs the Scottish clubs to pursue it. What chance that?

I have read it, so from that I take it as it being no longer necessary for Celtic to issue any statement as the Tribune artice has had the desired effect at UEFA of raising awareness of the issue

  4. Hello from Sunny Orlando where holiday makers tiptoe round the elephant in the room that is the massacre at the Pulse nightclub.

No one mentions it in public, certainly not the locals who I guess would not want to have their income affected by their right to bare arms.

Must admit I feel rather uneasy at being here to enjoy myself and knowing that across the other side of the city (and possibly right next door) there is intolerable hurt being felt by those affected by the slaughter of innocents.

And yet, there are atrocities of similar or greater magnitude around the world that are universally ignored.

After giving the order to go, Eisenhower, fearing the worst spent the next few hours agonising over things. He wrote a Statement, put it in his inside pocket and intended to release it if the news from Europe was bad.

I believe the Statement was in English.

The statement was never issued. Actions spoke louder than words.

Have chased the Guardian today re an apology and clarification and need to await their response before being in a position to formally complain.

Looking at the starting eleven for Iceland. Every surname ends in ‘son’.

Possibly not unique for them. But a curiosity nevertheless.

Iceland defenders can’t cope with the movement from the Portuguese attackers.

Iceland had some joy early on attacking the right side of the Portugal defence but didn’t seem to keep it going.

    Carvalho still a class defender.

They mentioned in the build up that there are 300k men between 18-40 in Iceland, so you have a 2000-1 chance of getting called up to the Euro squad.

van (Dutch) – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Van_(Dutch)

Van is a preposition in the Dutch and Afrikaans languages, meaning “of” or “from” depending … neutral article het). Common is ver-, a contraction of van der and written as a single word with the rest of the surname, as in Johannes Vermeer.

  17. Winning Captains,

Just in from a lovely French Bistro called Comptoir Gascon in London run by an AC Milan fan who believes it’s Italias cup. We had a little chat about the dead club and that they were bankrupted in his view. At the bar they’re were 2 copies of The London Times which incl the Scotland version with Michael Grant, Graeme Spiers and Phil Gordon is the paper of choice at Lancaster Gate. If you want to hit a nerve in London it’s the Times and at the same time damage the Herald sevconian fanzine run by Matt “orange tie ” Lindsay.

Also you mention that someone tweeted 152 times against the article. I would be interested in understanding the views of this tweeter —can you advise who ?

    Di Canio?

I’m not sure about Italian but De in French and Van, Van de and Van der in Dutch are definitely not patronymics but have more to do with place names.

Some Dutch footballers: Van Dijk, Van der Vaart, Van Breukelen – nothing to do with fathers’ names. Breukelen is a town (Brooklyn in New York comes from that).

  19. My son has a bet on with a high street bookmaker for Hungary to top their group at the Euros. Neither of us thought they would do so but the odds on offer were 350 to 1 which seemed excessive for a group containing Iceland as minnows, Austria as 2nd seeds and the inconsistent Portuguese as top seeds.

He is beginning to dream of a couple of grand return after today’s start.

BTW The odds were withdrawn by the firm even before today’s result.
