SIEGRIST MYSTERY

BRENDAN RODGERS used THREE keepers in Celtic’s 1-1 draw with Scott Brown’s Ayr United at Somerset Park last night.

However, there was no sign of Benji Siegrist, despite the Swiss netminder still having two years to run on his Hoops contract.

The 32-year-old shotstopper, who didn’t figure at all last season, insisted he had brokered a free transfer from the champions last month and was moving to Australia to start a new life with his reality TV star fiancee Brittany Hockley.

Siegrist, though, is still figuring in Celtic’s official first-team squad list, but there was no show from the former Swiss Under-21 star who joined as a free agent from Dundee United two years ago as the Hoops kicked off their preparations for the new campaign.

KEEPER NUMBER ONE…Scott Bain started the game against Ayr United.

KEEPER NUMBER TWO…Tobi Oluwayemi is sent on by Brendan Rodgers.

KEEPER NUMBER THREE…Josh Clarke completes the glove hat-trick.

Rodgers started the match with Scott Bain between the sticks before introducing ex-Spurs prospect Tobi Oluwayemi for 20 minutes and then completing the work-out with Josh Clarke in charge.

The Parkhead gaffer is, of course, looking for a replacement for Joe Hart who retired at the end of the season at the age of 37 after three years at the club in which he won seven honours, three league titles, two Scottish Cups and two League Cups.

Rodgers, speaking to the Daily Record, admitted: “It’s certainly one of the areas that we needed to improve and we’ve known that since Joe said that he was leaving.
“So, yes, that again, a bit of time, but we aim to have that, hopefully, done by the beginning of the season, for sure.
“There are loads of names flying about. So, just a good one would be nice.”
