Signed Roy Keane shirt, Hearts lay it on the line

407

We are going to see a lot of people in their true light through this.  Last night, Scott McGarvey, son of Celtic legend Frank, put his prized, signed, Roy Keane Republic of Ireland jersey on ebay to raise money for Glasgow South East Foodbank.  Their need, like so many others who cater for the poor, has never been greater.

Scott got the match worn shirt from Roy’s Ireland, and Frank’s Celtic, team-mate, Packie Bonner.  It is a rare and cherished piece of sporting memorabilia. Keep an eye on the auction here.  If you don’t have a wall for it, you can always move house.

Hearts “chairman’s statement”, (self-identifying is ‘so Edinburgh’)* issued by Ann Budge last night, was worthy of a read.  If you can look past the close-up of Mr Budge (she started it) occupying all real estate above the fold, she had an obligatory kick at The Sun for an earlier article bereft of the basic grasp of business, before getting onto the matter in hand.

Hearts, like almost every other club in Scotland and most in Europe, had no contingency for what she tells us all of football knows is a shutdown until “late July/August”.  It was either cut costs early or make people redundant eventually.  Earlier this week we heard from Aberdeen, those two are as ready for this crisis as anyone apart Celtic, but neither is in a good place.  At least Aberdeen know they will play top flight football next season.

Budge was first to move and put staff and players on 50% salary, with minimum wage protections.  Many others will follow.  Stenhousemuir are showing the way for clubs who know they can rely on fans to keep their club alive (yes, Stenhousmuir fans can do what others cannot).  On Wednesday, their chairman, wrote, “We’ve had a surge in people wanting to buy shares in the club.  Many have.  Welcome to The Warriors.  We’ve had people making donations, and lots more offers too.”

These are hard times, but many clubs with either be saved by the largess of their fans, or will perish in the summer.

Remember to check out the Roy Keane auction.

A global pandemic has been expected for years now. SARS and MERS were warnings. Yet there was no preparation. Not just a lack of equipment, but no organisational plan, no strategy, no command structure. Consequently policy is being made on the hoof, always reactive never proactive, constantly playing catch up.

There could have been plans in place for universal payments to keep the economy going and a basic form of rationing of essential supplies through the handful of supermarkets that dominate the UK market. They have enough technology through loyalty cards to track every item you purchase, how difficult would it be to for them to tweek their systems to avoid the nonsense of panic buying and hoarding?

And I suspect when it’s all over nothing will have been learned and nothing will change.

I am one of the lucky ones as I can afford to pay….but I want EON to explain to me why my bill is approx 33% increased for this month despite my being in self isolation for a few days.

I KNOW that I have NOT been using much more Gas/Electric than previous months, but I will probably have to pay them this bill at some point…but I will not pay them right now…they can wait !

Your right about the Govt doing more to help folk with energy bills, especially when the same govt is telling folk to stay at home.

One of the last projects I worked on in the UK was regional command center’s

the infrastructure is all in place to ensure a co-ordinated communications and command structure is available.

They had SAS testing physical security of the facilities and military specialists ensuring communications were secure, they have access to every public camera, remote control of traffic lights.

There were rumors that the facilities were for civil unrest, I’m now starting to believe this was the case, since this pandemic is exactly what I thought was the intended use.

  13. Big Jimmy – we have used home shopping before from Tesco and we find it crap.

Gotta agree, was caught up in the H1N1 situation 10 years ago as my ex’s son came back from Mexico, was the 1st person to test positive for it here and we were paid a visit from infection control, but it was a calamity.

He had came off the plane, with his mates and they all returned home. They even went to a concert that night……in hindsight…..infecting how many others?

Every single person on that plane that returned from Mexico, should have been whisked away, put in quarantine and not been allowed to make any contact with anyone until it was safe for them to do so.

There’s been quite a few since and its almost a biannual event…..and by the looks of it theres many more to come.

Hopefully not, but id say they need to think that 1 day, there may be and they need to get it right asap.

Pope’s extraordinary blessing Urbi et Orbi

Pope's extraordinary blessing Urbi et Orbi

Whatever you are planning for Friday evening, please include this important moment … On Friday, March 27th, the Holy Father Francis will offer an extraordinary blessing Urbi et Orbi — a solemn blessing to the city of Rome and the world — from the steps of an empty St Peter’s Square.

Readings from scripture, prayers, and Eucharistic adoration will precede the blessing, which Vatican Media will broadcast live from 5pm UK time.

The plenary indulgence attached to the Urbi et Orbi blessing is available to all who follow the event live or online.

The normal conditions for obtaining an indulgence are amended due to the current pandemic. It is “granted to the faithful suffering from Coronavirus, who are subject to quarantine by order of the health authority in hospitals or in their own homes if, with a spirit detached from any sin, they unite spiritually through the media to the celebration of Holy Mass, the recitation of the Holy Rosary, to the pious practice of the Way of the Cross or other forms of devotion, or if at least they will recite the Creed, the Lord’s Prayer and a pious invocation to the Blessed Virgin Mary, offering this trial in a spirit of faith in God and charity towards their brothers and sisters, with the will to fulfil the usual conditions (sacramental confession, Eucharistic communion and prayer according to the Holy Father’s intentions), as soon as possible.”

The indulgence is also granted to medical professionals, first responders, and other caregivers, whose occupations put them at elevated risk of exposure to coronavirus.

In addition, the indulgence is available during the emergency to the all who follow the ceremony online and who pray especially for relief from the pandemic and the repose of the souls of the victims of the disease.

You can follow the Holy Father’s blessing by clicking here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5YceQ8YqYMc

I only had about 50% of my shopping delivered last week, but Online Tesco were showing that many items were NOT available, so I was not expecting my full order.

however, this morning many items ( including toilet rolls) were available to order, but again I will check each day Online with my Order to see what will be delivered come Monday, and not just wait til the delivery arrives ?

Tesco KNOW that I am on the “Vulnerable List” due to my poor health and not having a car etc, as they have a Box Online that you can advise them of being “Vulnerable etc”.

    Stay safe.

China, anybody entering the country is automatically tested and isolated for two weeks, the majority of whom are turfed out immediately after the isolation unless they are on a business trip.

  24. Good to hear ‘GG. The audio/video technology is very important at the moment on all fronts.

MN starts a suggested 2-week lock down tonight. We’ll see how it goes, but I’m expecting there will have to be stricter enforcement because too many people will not stick closely enough to the guidelines. Personally, I’m going to stock up with plenty of food and drink today and settle down at home. I have to work remotely which is the toughest part because every day is spent giving bad news to people as more and more projects get canceled.

700 UK deaths, very quickly equaling Italy who have been dealing with it for weeks, how did that happen?

Easy, heard immunity is the UK strategy, allow the spread then use draconian security measures to ensure information can be contained
