Signed Roy Keane shirt, Hearts lay it on the line

407

We are going to see a lot of people in their true light through this.  Last night, Scott McGarvey, son of Celtic legend Frank, put his prized, signed, Roy Keane Republic of Ireland jersey on ebay to raise money for Glasgow South East Foodbank.  Their need, like so many others who cater for the poor, has never been greater.

Scott got the match worn shirt from Roy’s Ireland, and Frank’s Celtic, team-mate, Packie Bonner.  It is a rare and cherished piece of sporting memorabilia. Keep an eye on the auction here.  If you don’t have a wall for it, you can always move house.

Hearts “chairman’s statement”, (self-identifying is ‘so Edinburgh’)* issued by Ann Budge last night, was worthy of a read.  If you can look past the close-up of Mr Budge (she started it) occupying all real estate above the fold, she had an obligatory kick at The Sun for an earlier article bereft of the basic grasp of business, before getting onto the matter in hand.

Hearts, like almost every other club in Scotland and most in Europe, had no contingency for what she tells us all of football knows is a shutdown until “late July/August”.  It was either cut costs early or make people redundant eventually.  Earlier this week we heard from Aberdeen, those two are as ready for this crisis as anyone apart Celtic, but neither is in a good place.  At least Aberdeen know they will play top flight football next season.

Budge was first to move and put staff and players on 50% salary, with minimum wage protections.  Many others will follow.  Stenhousemuir are showing the way for clubs who know they can rely on fans to keep their club alive (yes, Stenhousmuir fans can do what others cannot).  On Wednesday, their chairman, wrote, “We’ve had a surge in people wanting to buy shares in the club.  Many have.  Welcome to The Warriors.  We’ve had people making donations, and lots more offers too.”

These are hard times, but many clubs with either be saved by the largess of their fans, or will perish in the summer.

Remember to check out the Roy Keane auction.

*sorry salt ‘n’ sauce friends.

“We already know that washing our hands for 20 seconds and covering our mouth when coughing stops the spread of coronavirus.

But did you now that leaving your shoes at the door could also prevent you from catching Covid-19?

Health experts have warned the virus can live on the soles of footwear for days and that it’s more likely to be picked up in places where a lot of people have walked.

This includes public transport, shopping centres, offices and parks.”

I can still get a flight from Kuwait, through Beirut, all middle east countries are forcing anyone coming through Beirut into isolation, not he UK though.

I have been battling with myself on returning home for my dad’s funeral, three flights, 4 airports, two of which are epicenters, is it worth risking infection and spreading to my family?

You cannot convince me the UK is not committed to the heard immunity strategy.

    ……………

When you go Online and Click on “Book a Slot”…there is a Box that you can type any details in.

I advised Tesco when i first ordered home delivery as my Building can cause confusion with delivery guys etc as it is right on a corner of TWO Streets and not well sign posted.

I have also used the Box and Called them up on their customer service number to advise them of me being on the “Vulnerable List” a few days ago.

I think the “HeadLine” above the Box is…….”Instructions for delivery etc” ?

    Gene,

The advice on the UK govt website is for British people to come home and that there are commercial flights available.

    Is that a responsible policy?

People who know me will know where I’m coming from so tough shit to you.

  10. It can be a bit of a struggle for me to walk the 40 yards or so to my local shop, and then back again, but I have done it earlier this week when Tesco didnt deliver my full order last week.

I am lucky compared to what some are going through at this time, although I am worried every day about my ongoing health issues…outwith corona.

    Gene,

most of the people I know that are/were on holiday were hoping the isolation airport closures before they left so they’d be stuck on holiday.

Aye circumstances, getting people to travel through epicenters are circumstances easily avoided.

    Big Jimmy,

every one would need to be tested before boarding, taking up test kits the elite need.

simpler to tell then its their own responsibility and risk.

The UK govt are still no testing the front line, doctors, nurses hospital staff but you can be sure police and armed forces will be getting tested.

  19. FYI

Paused SkySports today from Ireland. Couple of clicks once in the correct page but have to search ‘pause sports’ to get it. The link i had took me to a business area

You can still watch recordings and watch the channels as they are. Once football is back, they start charging; no need to do anything else

  20. Big Jimmy – no problem

Is it just my suspicious mind but on the day after the commons is closed after jeremy corbyn asked bojo to keep himself and his cabinet open to scrutiny and questions during the break, both pm and health minister remove themselves from the public eye AND any scrutiny/questions, whilst elicting empathy from the public

The Govt can surely ensure that Flight Crews are all tested before flying out to foriegn shores to bring folk back to the UK. etc

My heart goes out to you at this terrible time.

  24. MURSHEEN,

  25. Canamalar

Condolences for the loss of your Dad.

In my view, people have been allowed to travel throughout all of this.

Will 1 more make much more of an impact and especially 1 that takes all the precautions they can?

IF you do come back home you can still do what you can distancing wise, but that seems impossible on a day such as that.

Personally I couldn’t not have be there if it was my own dad.

It was only a matter of time for him when he went. I had to work, but was only 10 minutes away and was supposed to get called if his time had come, but I never got that call until it was too late.

Someone was meant to call me but they didn’t and instead done what they chose to do.

I’m bitter about it, but I keep it to myself as we have a very small family and I’d rather not disintegrate what’s left.

I regret being at work and not being there at that particular time.

    It still haunts me.

You are in an impossible situation, being so far away with all of this going on makes it a whole different situation so do what your heart or head tells you to do.

    You wouldn’t be irresponsible.

  31. Day 10 for me here but this is a personal enforced quarantine. I have a wife with a chronic auto immune condition that forces me inside, we do go for a couple of walks with the dug and it’s relatively quiet around here.

We also have our own weans that look after us and that results in grocery bags being left at the door, that’s fine although I took a bit of umbrage over one of them going online and saying she had elderly parents, that’s when I realised we must have adopted her lol.

Anyway after reading the article pog posted about the Atalanta/Valencia game it got me thinking about the sevco/aspirin aka Bayer 04 Leverkusen game. Prior to ko it was established in the interest of health and safety the return leg the following week would be behind closed doors.

This game was allowed to go ahead with an almost 50,000 crowd yet the following day all Scottish games were postponed due tae the Covid 19 virus.

We all know why they were allowed tae play, the dire need for money. Hell scud them if mccrorie was at their game, it is thought he and 4 of his team mates picked it up after playing Arsenal on March 2, that’s within the 14 day window.
