Signed Roy Keane shirt, Hearts lay it on the line

407

We are going to see a lot of people in their true light through this.  Last night, Scott McGarvey, son of Celtic legend Frank, put his prized, signed, Roy Keane Republic of Ireland jersey on ebay to raise money for Glasgow South East Foodbank.  Their need, like so many others who cater for the poor, has never been greater.

Scott got the match worn shirt from Roy’s Ireland, and Frank’s Celtic, team-mate, Packie Bonner.  It is a rare and cherished piece of sporting memorabilia. Keep an eye on the auction here.  If you don’t have a wall for it, you can always move house.

Hearts “chairman’s statement”, (self-identifying is ‘so Edinburgh’)* issued by Ann Budge last night, was worthy of a read.  If you can look past the close-up of Mr Budge (she started it) occupying all real estate above the fold, she had an obligatory kick at The Sun for an earlier article bereft of the basic grasp of business, before getting onto the matter in hand.

Hearts, like almost every other club in Scotland and most in Europe, had no contingency for what she tells us all of football knows is a shutdown until “late July/August”.  It was either cut costs early or make people redundant eventually.  Earlier this week we heard from Aberdeen, those two are as ready for this crisis as anyone apart Celtic, but neither is in a good place.  At least Aberdeen know they will play top flight football next season.

Budge was first to move and put staff and players on 50% salary, with minimum wage protections.  Many others will follow.  Stenhousemuir are showing the way for clubs who know they can rely on fans to keep their club alive (yes, Stenhousmuir fans can do what others cannot).  On Wednesday, their chairman, wrote, “We’ve had a surge in people wanting to buy shares in the club.  Many have.  Welcome to The Warriors.  We’ve had people making donations, and lots more offers too.”

These are hard times, but many clubs with either be saved by the largess of their fans, or will perish in the summer.

Remember to check out the Roy Keane auction.

  1. No need for the Govt to tell me to do social distancing etc….Iv been putting great distances between myself and Huns for years.

It was purely a money making scheme for the Huns to get cash from the bayer game…it was disgraceful that game was allowed to happen, even though I had the correct score on at the Bookies at 16/1 and I won a few quid.

Im just waiting for The SFA to deny Celtic the League Title, with some outcome that ALSO helps the huns etc.

Too many beers have been 1 of them and going on social media definitely isn’t a great mix.

In the summer of 1964 a Scottish football club revealed a plan to remove Stenhousemuir FC, along with four other clubs, on the basis that they were poorest supporter clubs over the previous three seasons.Four years later Stenhousemuir FC along with Berwick Rgs, Albion Rovers,Brechin City andStraraer with support from Celtic,Airdrie and Hamilton successfully defeated the plan.

And the club that revealed such a plan was ??????????

    Thunder Road,

I was contacted via whatsapp and allowed to tell him I love him before he went, I am thankful for that and feel for you, not being allowed that opportunity.

As for travelling home and potentially being responsible for spreading among the family, I am no sure he’d have wanted me to subject them or myself even, to that risk.

    GG,

Thanks for the thoughts, the more I think about the situation the more I’m inclined to follow Gene’s thoughts and stay, hopefully returning to everybody healthy and safe when we can celebrate his life.

Im not on the ‘frontline’ and cannot begin to imagine what the staff in those areas are trying to cope with.

Its probably only beginning but already it must be horrendous.

All i can do is be at work, do my bit, that may help them do their bit and try my best not to spread this thing about.

  20. I went for the essential shopping a while ago. The atmosphere has changed tangibly since the start of the lockdown. Workers looked wrecked. I felt wrecked. I’m sure we will all have peaks and troughs during this but right now my spirits are low.

A bit of Celtic memory lane on YouTube will lift the spirits I think. Posting this on here has already helped too believe it or not.

Solidarity to you all comrades in Celtic.

I’m self isolating for 12 weeks, health condition, so S has the added burden of doing all the external stuff. It is a little frustrating being confined but I do so knowing that if I were to get the virus I would probably be unable to fight it off.

  22. Walkers and Joggers.

Government guidelines asks us to keep our distance from other road users – 2 metres being recommended!

The standard width of a normal pavement is 2 metres so unless both people passing are at the opposite extreme edge of the pavement they are too close!

I would suggest that, to be safe, you should walk on the pavement facing the traffic and hop on to the road when passing others (avoiding, of course, getting Dunlop stamped on your bahookie from oncoming traffic!).

But please, always try to give the elderly and infirm as much consideration as possible.

    Hail! Hail!
