Signed Roy Keane shirt, Hearts lay it on the line

407

We are going to see a lot of people in their true light through this.  Last night, Scott McGarvey, son of Celtic legend Frank, put his prized, signed, Roy Keane Republic of Ireland jersey on ebay to raise money for Glasgow South East Foodbank.  Their need, like so many others who cater for the poor, has never been greater.

Scott got the match worn shirt from Roy’s Ireland, and Frank’s Celtic, team-mate, Packie Bonner.  It is a rare and cherished piece of sporting memorabilia. Keep an eye on the auction here.  If you don’t have a wall for it, you can always move house.

Hearts “chairman’s statement”, (self-identifying is ‘so Edinburgh’)* issued by Ann Budge last night, was worthy of a read.  If you can look past the close-up of Mr Budge (she started it) occupying all real estate above the fold, she had an obligatory kick at The Sun for an earlier article bereft of the basic grasp of business, before getting onto the matter in hand.

Hearts, like almost every other club in Scotland and most in Europe, had no contingency for what she tells us all of football knows is a shutdown until “late July/August”.  It was either cut costs early or make people redundant eventually.  Earlier this week we heard from Aberdeen, those two are as ready for this crisis as anyone apart Celtic, but neither is in a good place.  At least Aberdeen know they will play top flight football next season.

Budge was first to move and put staff and players on 50% salary, with minimum wage protections.  Many others will follow.  Stenhousemuir are showing the way for clubs who know they can rely on fans to keep their club alive (yes, Stenhousmuir fans can do what others cannot).  On Wednesday, their chairman, wrote, “We’ve had a surge in people wanting to buy shares in the club.  Many have.  Welcome to The Warriors.  We’ve had people making donations, and lots more offers too.”

These are hard times, but many clubs with either be saved by the largess of their fans, or will perish in the summer.

Remember to check out the Roy Keane auction.

*sorry salt ‘n’ sauce friends.

  1. Spare a wee thought for the dental staff.

Spoke to a few of them lately and they are feeling incredibly at risk and very undervalued.

They are still trying to sort someones toothache at this time.

Can you imagine the risks, despite whatever ppe they have?

Major deep cleaning of surgery after each patient, with fingers crossed there’s not covid 19 floating around in the atmosphere after all the drilling and water spraying.

  2. What the Government should do immediately, is cancel the vanity project that is HS2. Coupled with that they should look to be cutting foreign aid. I mean, we give millions to places like India and Pakistan, yet these countries have enough dosh to have their own nuclear deterrent, FFS.

    Really makes you wonder

    Stay well everone

  3. Back to football for a second. I really do not get the thinking behind the “split”, absolute bollocks, It is so unfair on the top teams as some will play 2 games at home and 1 away, while others , the opposite, gimme a break please.

Hello children – how are we doing?

Having flounced now for a few months (and I still vehemently disagree with dobbing in 12 year-olds to the Police other than in truly extreme circumstances), I was ordered by Favorite Uncle this morning to get my arse back on here again.

Will get WeeBGFC to say hello too.

Knackered – just finished work two minutes ago,

Worth it though – pleased to say we’ve manged to get the University of Oxford RECOVERY trial (https://www.recoverytrial.net/) initiated in our local board late this afternoon – and first patients already enrolled in the trial.

Might help, might not – that’s the point of the clinical trial – but is good to be trying.

Will check in later – just away to be a delivery man for my auntie – see y’all soon.

And belated – and heartfelt – commiseration to our two friends here who lost their fathers in the past week – very sorry for your loss guys.

    Regards – BGFC

I e mailed you the other day.

I suggest you remain where you are and we get together when it’s safe to do so to pay our respects.

I wouldn’t want my kids to endanger themselves or others or feel guilty about not being there, like all good fathers would.

  6. Good evening CQN I bring you an update on your efforts to support TET’s Son, Niall and his Fiancée, Sharon.

To date you have donated £608.88, the 88p is fantastic, you know who you are.

Given Jan’s health issues it is unlikely she will be able to see Niall get married. So the plan will be to put any money left over to have the wedding streamed so that Jan and other family and friends can watch the wedding live.

We’ll keep the donations open until Tuesday 31st March as it is pay day for most people.

CRC has spoken to TET, to say he is overwhelmed is understatement.

  10. Sorry, what a clown. Meant to add re the money saved, it should ALL be going to increase wages across the NHS and to provide a good bonus to them when we get over this pandemic.

That was ‘good’ that you got that time to say that to him.

Im sorry if im winding you up but im winding myself up and a lot of pain is coming out.

Been bottled up for 5 years as ive had to take what happened and never been able to talk to anyone about it……so im forcing it on you.

The call was made for us to go to his bedside at @6.50pm

I was at my work, only 10 minutes drive away from the hospital that he was in but they went and picked my mum up and took her to be with him without letting me know

Instead i got a call at 7.20 and by the time i got there just after 7.30, he was away.

Ive walked into that room about every night since and wanted to ask them why they didnt call me sooner, like while on the way to pick my mum up, which would have given me the chance to get out of work and probably arrive at the same time as them, to give me a chance to say goodbye, but when i walked in the room that night there was no place for that and its still bottled up.

You got that chance so that is the main thing for me about you if that makes sense.

You got that chance to tell him you loved him.

  17. FAIRHILL BHOY.

Just seen your earlier post. Thank you so much for that offer, but I’m sure you have enough to do for your family and friends rather than running up here. I know you are not a million miles away from here, in fact quite close, but I can still manage out once a week and get the necessaries. Not knowing what’s ahead, I may need you at some point. You are a star. HH

  19. Very much absorbing myself in old Celtic games on You Tube (availability permitting that is) especially the early 80’s. Have to say what a good player Tom McAdam was.

Actually got to know his brother, Colin, before his untimely death in 2013. Colin was proud of Tom and gave me great stories about him as an emerging and exciting young player. Very underestimated.

Colin was also a first class man and a very dedicated school teacher.

Vis-a-vis You Tube – I’d love to see extended highlights of Leeds v. Celtic on 1 April 1970. You can get about 2 minutes so perhaps Yorkshire TV haven’t retained anything more. Pity but old football is a bit hit or miss.

Not me my friend, I am but a conduit, CRC approached TET and then the rest was down to all of those that have donated thus far.

If I may clarify my reference to 88p donation was a subtle hint…as if you all didn’t know. The donation was £18.88, class!

Mazzy- while at St Gregory’s Cranhill, our big Derby was v Garthamlock, always a hotly contested game, with biased PE teachers as referee. Colin McAdam was a PE teacher at Garthamlock for a while, whenever he refereed a game, it was totally fair, and unsurprisingly nobody argued with him,he was a gentleman, and complimented any of our Bhoys on good play, sadly passed too young.
