You have to love the weeks of anticipation ahead of the new season, when teams can consider that just about anything is possible. Nowhere is this truer than at Newco, where the pages of newspapers proclaim the signing of some or other no-mark you have never heard of.
From a purely football aspect, the imminent challenge for boss Caixinha, to qualify for the Europa League group stage, is fascinating. Do not for a second believe he has been asked to lay a glove on Celtic, pragmatism determines this is clearly not possible.
After a season of domestic invincibility, there are a few in our ranks who believe our own imminent challenge, to qualify for the group stages of the Champions League, will be a formality. I doubt it will be. We will certainly be better prepared than we have been for many years, but you can expect to see tense times in Scandinavia, Easter Europe, or perhaps Central Asia.
Celtic teams with Larsson, Sutton, Hartson, Thompson, Lambert and Lennon failed this task. Peter Lawwell has money to spend right now, but he cannot count on a huge dividend from Uefa until it is guaranteed.
The Road To Lisbon
The Road To Lisbon team announced this morning that they achieved their target of raising £50k for Celtic FC Foundation, Solving Kids Cancer and Children in Crossfire. It is a breath-taking achievement by CQNers and others. When Mouldy67 looks back on his life’s achievements, this chapter will put the biggest spring in his step.
Well done to all on a fantastic achievement. Here’s a message from Mouldy (who you can still support here):
We r delighted to announce that we have now reached (& surpassed) a magical….

You’re very welcome, talking of Phil – he was very complimentary in the comments of his Lisbon blog
But I’m not sure who he meant :-) Would be great to catch a pint in NYNY should I get down for a game.
Maybe you could go for a smoke if the tic’ go a goal down.

Only 48 hours until Vegas flight – Thomas Cook going direct to Sin City For the Green Night. We are meeting sister in law and her husband who have been there since Saturday. Hopefully they wil have sussed it out by the time we arrive.
Visualising Hooped shirts in the casinos and bars and plenty of singing and dancing to honour the 50th anniversary of the Lions and our Invincible Treble Champions.

Good Morning One and All.
RE Res 12 and Auldheid’s posts and explanations.
The biggest and most obvious issue for Celtic and others at the moment is the past on the record witterings from SFA personnel. For some time those witterings have not stood the test of scrutiny. They vary in terms of explanation, they are silent on material matters, they are contradicted by UEFA, and they make no sense whatsoever in light of recently examined events, and in my humble opinion they show a clear attempt to pull the wool over the eyes of the chief executive of Celtic Football Club treating him with disdain and someone not worthy of a full and frank reply when he has made a reasonable enquiry.
Any formal letter should always be written with the idea in mind that someone may well revisit the terms of the letter say 5 years down the line and examine it for accuracy, veracity and clarity at that time.
If it is found wanting as a result of contemporaneous events coming to light in the interim then there are questions to be answered.
It is that simple.
To all who are in Las Vegas — look out for the Spirit of ’67 Polo shirts there should be quite a few in evidence.
I will hopefully have a supply available for sale at the Hootenanny on the 17th of June.
Thanks to everyone who contributed to the £670 raised for the Road to Lisbon cyclists, the £1967 raised for the British Heart Foundation and the further funds that will go to Mary’s Meals and St Mary’s.
No comment on transfer speculation — what will be wil be!
