Signing strategies not to follow follow

193

Keep one eye on the profile of players we target and sign this summer.  The model which has delivered so many trophies in recent seasons has been to sign them before they reach their peak, develop and either extend their contracts, or sell.  It is sustainable and avoids the cliff edge of players spending their peak years with us, then dropping in value as the years progress.

Contrast this to what has happened across the city, where they sign players in their mid-20s in the hope of an immediate fix to a problem that conventionally takes strategic development to resolve.

In signing Connor Barron, Newco appear to have figured this out.  You just hope that while they are copying our strategy, we are not copying theirs….

Just compleated survey. There certainly is a bit of “How much more money can we squeeze out of you?” but it is after all a BUISNESS!!

On a side note, has it been announced yet how many “away fans” are permitted for Sevco matches? Reason Im asking is it most probably impact my chances of myself and wee man getting tickets. (we got to both last year but only gotn 1 cup final ticket)

It’s folk like middle aged Accounts and Lawyers etc who don’t understand the tools or strategic thinking making decisions that are plain wrong that is concerning.

    ——————————————–

You seriuosly dont think the Celtic executives understand strategic thinking or the analtics presented to make business informed decisions ?

serioulsy, billionaire, succesful businee owners, bank of england exectives, leaders of clydeport , multiple non executive positions on other boards,

educated as high levels, with degrees and mba’s and relevent longtime experiences dont understand strategy ?

I might not like all the outcomes, but I could not look at any of them and said there is an unqualified middle aged accountant/lawyer who does not understand what their business is.

Ball gets cleared……’they just about dealt with it…..’ WTF does that even mean?

  4. We discussed fan engagement and communication about a week ago.

This should hve been done before we kicked our fans out of Parkhead and rolled out the red carpet for the huns.

“We can hope that the “executive” strategists with their screens and data have had their day at Celtic…”

You sound like a Luddite I’m afraid. It’s just how the world works.

Did you read what the new German manager of Brighton said about Tony Bloom, the owner?

“I really like the DNA – it is a very analytical, data-based approach”

Both clubs have supposedly agreed to a 5% allocation to away fans. this is based on the “european away 2 principles.

That would be 3,000 for thems at celtic park.

However, the south east conren from ain stand to lisbon lions double deck is 2,700.

Tjat is what the big away support for europe gets at our stadium, easy to segregate, contain, allow in and out the stadium.

it would make sense to us and the police that that becomes the allocation, 2,700,

that would be secions 120. 119. 118, with section 117 becoming the segregation unoccupied zone.

thsi allow celtic supporters to occupy the complete upper tier of the lisbon lions.

however suspicions are now raised, as the works on fences and stairs outside takes a bigger wedge,

we sould have told thems to bugger off, i just dont get it.

  7. meanwhile in rangers statments they falsely made a statement “we always wanted for there to be away supports at the stadiums, liars.

begs the question, if the copland road is still closed, and they play in front of 3 stands, will they give, 2125 tickets to celtic supporters, i doubt it very much.

  8. !!Bada Bing!! on

Frimpong would have done better than Dumfries down right hand side, with that amount of service

  9. I think there’s a fair few assumptions being made there about our board.

I don’t think it’s a sensible argument to suggest middle aged accountants and lawyers aren’t capable of strategic thinking. Maybe it’s my age and training that makes me find it a bit strange.

Maybe I’ll get it better when I become a pensioner and all that fancy tech starts making more sense

  10. Dear GCC,

When Celtic win the league in 2025 there will be a street party in the Trongate, Merchant City and Gallowgate areas.

Can you please consider providing adaquate bins and some portable toilet facilities. It would be greatly appreciated and would help alleviate rubbish on our streets.

Its not a lot to ask for considering the monies we will generate for the city over the period.

I hope you could benchmark this request between all the orange days you have approved. Im sorry for the short notice, but a year is the maximum we feel comfortable with.

    Thanking you in anticipation.

    Brendan.

  11. I’m not saying I’m capable of the sort of strategic planning needed to run a successful club, but I can recognize it when I see it

  12. I just filled in the survey

I suggested less data, fewer screens and more hb pencils and lined paper for the strategists

  13. on the orange day march.

i was in greenock and gourock post the walk.

the rubbish around the route was incredible. how very dare they sully the king heighways this way.

Burnley just signed a CB,could help move for O’Shea,if we’re interested in him

  15. After seeing the Tartan Army in Cologne I didn’t think I would witness anything as bonkers in the name of sport for a time.

IL Palio di Siena is as mental and brave and bonkers an event I have ever witnessed first hand.

It’s quite special in terms of classical pageantry but insane in terms of the bravery of those competing. Not sure what the odds are for the race mind you.

  16. Great news re the 18s coach.

No doubt the business facilities are a huge opportunity for Celtic. Hugely lacking.

That Ruh Patterson is mental. Like Farage or Trump or Johnston she seems to think repeating the lie will make it seem true.

Not sure Jota and Idah have said they would come here at any price.

Concerned rangers are doing the right thing with their signings. Short term this might work for us but not sure medium term.

Seeing their youngsters off will destroy them and possibly their coach as I doubt their fans have the stomachs for more moral victories.

  17. The celtic bored have known for months that they were going to do a Customer Survey, months.

Well hear we are and they still have not published the results,

    what are they hiding ?

    CELTIC40ME @ 5:38 PM,

    You guys are very condescending

St Stivs, we’ve had this discussion before

I stated my son was COO of a state of the arts data analytics company.

Well last week at a black tie industry event in London the company won the Data and Analytics Company of the year award.

Well deserved, made me a very proud dad

Won’t be recommending him to be picking the Celtic team anytime soon though.

Yes, we have to be wary of Maslow’s Hammer but there is also horses for courses.

It doesn’t take a data analytics genius to look at the last decade of Celtic’s recruitment and tell you what went right and what went wrong

My belief is we are learning, we are moving on and I celebrate that.

Keep the accountants and data analysts in the support roles, let the football experts make the decisions.

    Hail Hail

  20. get your bhoy to generate the data, present it, then the football department selects who is playing.

i dont believe the accountants or lawyers are picking the team.

Too many of the linked names targets are late window possibilities.

Targets should be within range for pre season training.

  22. you said they dont understand business trategy, because they are too old to understand data.

data is a fancy new word for numbers, graphs, trends, analysis, etc etc,

spreadsheets, balance sheets, contracts, terms and conditions.

    just neatly packaged,

anyone with a wee bit of savvy can read a report.

    it is not rocket science.

  23. !!Bada Bing!! on

Look at guys from Slovenia, Slovakia, Romania, who are still playing in domestic leagues

  24. CHAIRBHOY

“Keep the accountants and data analysts in the support roles, let the football experts make the decisions.”

Not about strategy. Its not in Brendans interests to think strategically about the business, he’s paid £3 million quid a year to win football matches, he’s getting the sack if he doesnt. Why would he spend any time thinking about the long term?

It would also take an absolutely exceptional mind to be able to be a Tier 1 manager(!) and an expert business strategist. I think Brendan is a very clever man but not that.

Leave our different teams to their own fields of expertise.
