Signing strategies not to follow follow

193

Keep one eye on the profile of players we target and sign this summer.  The model which has delivered so many trophies in recent seasons has been to sign them before they reach their peak, develop and either extend their contracts, or sell.  It is sustainable and avoids the cliff edge of players spending their peak years with us, then dropping in value as the years progress.

Contrast this to what has happened across the city, where they sign players in their mid-20s in the hope of an immediate fix to a problem that conventionally takes strategic development to resolve.

In signing Connor Barron, Newco appear to have figured this out.  You just hope that while they are copying our strategy, we are not copying theirs….

  1. CELTIC40ME @ 11:24 PM,

Well obviously “the model” was kicked into touch in January.

Hopefully uncommon sense prevails this summer and we get to discuss the pros and cons of a new strategy that brings us footballing and commercial value.

    Hail Hail

“List all the players that were recruited since May 2022 and tell me if that’s a winning or failed strategy.”

Isn’t a better measure of success trophies?

    ——-

    IMHO – yes.

Now that’s enough talking in my sleep.

You’ve got yourself in a fankle. You’re doing exactly what you accuse the board of doing and putting success in player recruitment above success on the pitch.

“List all the players that were recruited since May 2022 and tell me if that’s a winning or failed strategy.”

A treble and a double in the two seasons since then. That’s strategic success

“Keeping ourselves a nose ahead of der hun”

    —————————————-

Nobody at Ibrox thinks they are a nose behind us.

In this century we have moved from 37 league wins to 54. In the same time Rangers have moved from 50 to 55, via liquidation. That’s 17 wins to 5. In the last decade we have won 9 to their 1.

In this century we have won 11 Scottish Cups and they have won 5. In the past decade we have won 5 to their 1.

In this century we have gone from 12 to 21 wins. Rangers have gone from 22 to 28, that’s 9 to 6. In the past decade the gap is 7:1.

In whose measurement of distance is this “a nose ahead”.

We have never known such dominance- not in your lifetime or mine. From the 57 LC win to the 65 SC win, we lost every league- never even finished 2nd and were as low as 8th and 9th in some seasons.

We were not a nose behind Rangers then. We weren’t even a nose behind Dundee, Hearts or Killie then.

If we’re just a nose ahead of them, it must be a schnozzle that is 10 times the length of Cyrano De Bergerac & Jimmy Durante combined. It must be capable of Tsunami levels of snot, and it must need a squadron of rhinoplasts to look after it.

  8. Why would Celtic put out a survey that is restricted on geographical grounds? We keep getting told that we have a ‘World-wide’ support yet there is no reference, or drop down, for Bermuda or the Cayman Islands. We have a CSC in both of these countries! I have filled in a false country to complete the survey and noted this absence in the comments at the end. I will be interested in finding out if anyone will read it and respond since they also have my email address.

last season could have turned out very badly, thankfully Brendan got us there,it should never have been as close.

We won the league by 8 points. Even if we had won it by 1 point on the last day, that would have still been a precious league title win.

Another example of a spoiled, entitled Celtic supporter who thinks we heve to win it every year by at least 20 points to be a success.

    Pitiful.

but they all need to align somewhere for the well being of the business.

Exactly, or the organisation becomes disfunctional.

Its my problem with Brendan, Ive been very open about how I dont believe his and the club’s needs overlap enough. I think it stops us being as successful as we could be, and I think his first time at Celtic proved that and I think his reluctance to truly buy into the development model is holding us back.

But the board seem to be able to put up with it so so should I, and as long as theres enough accord for things to function I’ll be happy

    —————————-/

    Wow

It’s now Brendan that holding the club back – that’s just bewildering.

These are Trumpian statements, are you even a supporter of Celtic FC has you sound more like a supporter of Celtic PLC? The business model seems more important that the team to a few on here – I just can’t get me head round it….

I really wish my stalker was younger and better looking. If it wasn’t for the huns bottling it at Ross County, we would have lost the league IMO. You are another one of the Celtic View Memorial CSC

RULE 1- Don’t criticize the Club

RULE 2- Don’t criticize the Club ever

RULE 3- Everything to do with Celtic FC,on and off the park ,is World Class

Away you go,reload, and fire again, you brainwashed Happy Clapper.

  13. if only the rangers hadnt bottled it against ross county, dundee celtic twice and hearts in those last round of league matches, gor their noses in front they would have surely won the league.

and having got their noses in front in the league they would have surely then won the cup.

    a treble no less.

  14. bournesouprecipe on

I think when your only rival dies, you are entitled to reckon your team will win the league most years. It’s hardly supporter self entitlement, and the bigger the gap gets between city rivals, the more the locus is on Celtic making a bigger impact against comparable European teams.

    It’s not rocket salad CSC

  15. Will complete the survey later today.

    2 things i will promote. :-

Play attacking entertaining football. ( There is absolutely no reason this cannot be achieved domestically)

Enhance and optimise the match day experience. ( Hot water, wi fi, pre match entertainment, pop up, venues, street food, etc etc )

GP – good call on suggested match day experience improvements for the survey.

I intended to mention fan zone and street food but forgot – completed survey while watching Turkiye vs Austria.

Easy to understand why I was distracted.

  18. According to some, we won the league last season because the Huns dropped points at Dundee and Ross County.

Well, we dropped points as well but still won the League because we gained eight points more than they did.

    Interesting read from Joe McHugh

    https://videocelts.com/2024/07/blogs/latest-news/plunged-into-crisis-blundering-betrayal-jackson-wades-in-with-the-blame-game-as-ibrox-closes-its-doors/

Did I read somewhere that Joe was previously in the SMSM trade?

He seems to know the form and this particular personality.

The excerpts from the DR piece are cringeworthy.

Proscribe the use of “is believed to be”, “I understand”, “sources claim” and “reports suggest” …

… and these SMSM clowns would be out of business.

BTW – anyone who thinks a CEO in the leisure sector prepares the project plan for a construction project? … is foolish.

I remember when Martin O’Neill signed as manager he remarked that Rangers were ‘the benchmark’ we had to aspire to overtake. It was a rather tongue in cheek remark , Martin had every confidence that we would edge ahead of them but was no doubt thinking bigger in terms of Europe . Fast forward to the present and it still seems that we are measuring ourselves against the Ibrox team but our aspirations in Europe is an unanswered question . I think we once again have the manager for it if he gets the players he needs . This transfer window will start to answer that question .

The Austria v Turkey was indeed a great game and showcassed football more than the boring ” major” countries with their multi million superstars.

It epitimised what we love about the beautiful game.

This is what I want to see at Parkhead. Attacking, entertaining football that will have the fans screaming for more.

Football is not chess. It was never meant to be chess.

    Cheers and HH.
