Signings made an impact

195

After Sunday’s win over Motherwell, that’s six points Celtic have added in three league games this season with winners coming from the 87th minute or later.  Luke McCowan’s deflected shot against St Mirren was early, compared to the added time penalty by Kelechi Iheanacho at Kilmarnock or Daizen Maeda’s stoppage time header against Motherwell.

Celtic are not the only team to strike late this season, Hearts also won with a late goal at the weekend, against Hibs, while Motherwell left it just as late to score twice and win their first game of the League Campaign against Aberdeen the previous week.

Again, summer signings made an impact.  Benjamin Nygren scored the equaliser, but even before that, he was knocking on the door.  Michel-Ange Balikwisha has endured a baptism of fire since joining from Royal Antwerp late in the window.  He was thrown in at the deep end with a debut at Ibrox, then played in an unaccustomed position at Kilmarnock, before two brief sub appearances.

Michel-Ange’s assist for Daizen’s winner showed the edge Celtic needed and have lacked for much of this season.  He turned 24 in May and will be a litmus test of our potential to develop a talent.  There were fighters on the field at fulltime on Sunday, including Michel-Ange.

  1. One Battle After Another is a pretty scattered Paul Thomas Anderson fillum Mrs Quad and watched tonight.

It’s also an apt descriptor of the currants manager retention policy this and every season.

PS Sean Penn just stole the show from Leonardo, imo.

The Transfer Window was a success, nobody briefed a despised anti Celtic rag against the manager, Mr Grace says ‘you’re all doing very well ‘

Desmond not attended an AGM since 2006,but when the team met The Pope a couple of years ago,he was front and centre, same when we’re playing Barcelona in the CL.

So STFU and keep giving us your money, this ‘meeting ‘ was a total whitewash, and only came about due to a big drop off in buying EL packages, merchandise etc.

We’re gonna need a bigger Car Park.

I think you might be trying a bit too hard, making stuff up and generally telling porkies about when he left before.

    But we don’t know it.

  4. What is toxic to me is expecting parents to pay full price for kids in the Europa cup.

A wee bit of humility would have been good from our custodians acknowledging the complete and utter failure of the board, the players , the managerial and couching teams to defeat a team ranked 315 in European football.

The future of the game and our support ( ie the young ) should not pay the price of collective failure.

Huge salaries, record money in the bank and we punish kids and their parents.

This is not Celtic and is completely toxic.

We know theres a benefit to be had from accusing other people of what you’ve been accused of doing yourself.

We know theres a benefit of putting a name to it, and suggesting it was you who were responsible for it becoming part of the consciousness.

    Hi Everyone,

Good win on Sunday, that’s the fight needed when things aren’t going well. I must admit that I felt for Russell Martin, I know you can attack me if you want, but having to be escorted to a car and not be able to travel back on your team bus, watching fans sprint around a stadium because they see him walking across the field, that is ridiculous, no matter what team you support. I bet his family is happy now that he is away from that atmosphere. What the hell is going on with football and fans today???? Lenny receiving death threats and Bullets, players being told not to go out in the cities that they live in with their families, Watching so called football pundits revelling in the fact that a man has lost his job and them grinning from ear to ear because they believe their opinion helped this process. Deary deary me. I live in country where my family, my wife, are worried that their dad, who they believe is a good man, is finding it harder and harder to do the job he loves, teaching, because the people in charge seem to be watching everyone’s every move. It feels like at times, George Orwell’s 1984 and big brother watching you. I am sorry for the tone of my comment. Good Celtic men are at each other’s throats, it seems, at times, and that is sad. I watched a show with Kenny Dalgliesh on it the other day and watching Keane, and Neville and Carragher sit there in awe of the man, made me realize how fortunate we are as a club that this Legend was speaking and always speaks in glowing terms about our club. These former players asked him questions about what it was like to play for Celtic and you could see his face light up when talking about Mr. Stein and training with the Lions. The roundabout point I am trying to make is that we love our club through thick and thin, through good and bad, and to be honest, this doesn’t feel too bad compared to other eras when we went long periods without winning trebles, doubles, or even anything. The song says we don’t care if we win lose or draw, maybe time we believed in it again.

As I said, all over the place I am, but know where my heart is.

    Sean

Some talk of cancelling season tickets?

If this course of action is followed it is, IMHO, a principled thing to do.

Certainly speaks of having the courage of one’s convictions.

If this thing is still festering at season’s end, the number of non renewals of season tickets will give some indication of the depth and breadth of the Collective.

BTW – any chance they can come up with a new name?

  18. On a discussion on supporters unrest in Scottish football, BBC presenter, Connie McLaughlin, hosting the programme on Radio Scotland this morning, advised listeners that “Dermot Desmond is pouring his money in to keep the club afloat.”

This lie appears to overlook the financial health of Celtic, but was it more of a subliminal message that the supporters of Celtic should be grateful for what they’ve got? Maybe, there is reason to be concerned about our FSR status if this is what is happening, as reliably informed via the public service broadcaster.

    Please allow me, Celtic40me:

So if theres doubt about the provenance of the piece you issue a public statement defending your manager stating that the story does not reflect the opinion of the Celtic board – the CEO should be front and centre defending his manager after such an attack.

That is, if your CEO is strong enough to do that.

  26. Is Rodgers innocent of the failure to beat Kairat Almaty?

Can Rodgers version/views of how a transfer window turned out be trusted?

    Why do I ask?

Well, when Rodgers said that he was happy with Celtic`s transfer window dealings, on loads of occasions, only to start backtracking and letting out whispers that he didn’t sign whatever player that wasn’t measuring up, then I’m afraid that the entire executive sucks and needs to be replaced.

TORY-ism needs to be cleansed from Celtic.

Adidas needs to be removed from Celtic.

Knights of the Realm associations need to be removed from Celtic.

Anybody who’s name begins with “Sir” is not the solution.

The board are full of liars, the manager is a proven slippery liar, who dropped our best goalkeeper because he said during an interview that evil animal Huns threw dozens of bottles and other missiles at him during a game at Ibrox.

    Then Rodgers dropped him?

Truth is not allowed at Celtic. So what does that leave?

Scottish Football has been toxic for decades as we all know too well.

But this time, since 2012, Celitc’s board have caused the new toxicity.

A toxicity that removed forever the delusion that Celtic PLC were EVER going to be the good guys.

A real, honest, principled, straight talking, fearless, savvy, socially conscious, ethics based, man management based, Celtic board, in 2012, would have accepted that, YES, Rangers fans are no fans of Celtic FC, but that must not now, not EVER, be allowed to shape Celtic FC’s judgement of a criminal scandal, HMRC/Tax/Doding/EBT/Scandal, carried out by David Murray, and ONLY David Murray should be punished for this criminality.

    BUT.

Celtic PLC reduced this disaster to, nothing to do with us Guv, keeping our powder dry, type of hiding behind the sofa level of responses.

It was not Celtic’s concern as their fans were chaeted out of 20+ trophies?

And fans sold the park out with season tickets to thank these PLC grifters?

No wonder the PLC look at Celtic fans as empty head idiots!

Celtic FC became smaller in 2012, like munchkins, compared to the honorable stature of Raith Rovers FC, and their honest and principled leader, who unfortunately is no longer with us, Turnbull Hutton.

TH, made Celtic PLC look like a bunch of shifty, sleekit, pocket picking, pygmies.

Celtic should have approached this from the working class Stein approach, savvy all the way.

Mr Stein, Mr White, Mr Kelly, an SFA guy, an Ibrox guy, Sky Sports guy, would have met, arrived at an agreement to deal with the 2012 disaster, and pursued the arrest, and lawful judgement of David Murray.

Truth, justice, integrity, and most importantly, clarity, would have been the way forward for the Scottish game in 2012.

Rangers fans buy season tickets, merchandise etc, just like every other set of fans.

    BUT.

Rangers fans did not steal EBT’s.

Most Rangers fans had no idea that this was happening until many years after it happened, just like every other set of fans.

If fans engage in criminality then the law will deal with them.

No football fans should EVER be punished for the crimes of a crooked director.

    BUT.

If a knight of the realm engages in criminalty, a conspiracy of Masons will shift the blame elswhere, to save the knight.

    AND.

Celtic FC and its supporters went along with this new layer of criminality.

    AND.

Scottish football since 2012, is wall to wall toxic liars.

I just hope that no one from Celtic has any stupid skeletons in their cupboards and if they have, they better join their local Lodge.

Turnbull Hutton [Scottish Footballs last honest Man] RIP.

  28. The Board and the fans are clearly not on the same page whether that is transfer policy or basic communications (merchandising aside) they are poor to say the least.

I didn’t even know we had a head of communications until recently. A department that couldn’t find our biggest infrastructure spend since Lennoxtown to give the fans updates was bad enough but to then compound that by not informing fans that the club were going to errect internal barriers within the stadium bordered on the dangerous.

However, the timeliness of recruitment is undoubtedly the biggest issue: constantly waiting until the last few days to do deals when your biggest financially profitable matches are prior to that is reckless.

Sure, money has been spent but not early enough to allow players to bed in. This has left glaring gaps in the squad which really shouldn’t happen.

I agree that simply to ignore the existence of the article could be seen to tacitly support it so I find the silence strange . Unless the board do want to leave that impression . Either way ,we’re not going to find a smoking gun .

  35. ADVERTISEMENT
  36. There is no scenario re the brief against BR that reflects well on Nicholson;

Either the article is a falsehood and he’s allowed it to go unchallenged, or, the article is reflective of the board’s opinion- in which case he’s taken no action against a manager he sees as working against Club policy.

    In either case, he’s weak.

  37. B78, I do not like singling out posters statements but yours earlier tipped me over the edge am afraid. This one:

    – In 57 years since I first went to a Celtic game we have won 33 titles. In the 57 years before that we won 8. Of the 33, we have won 19 in the past 25 years. Aye we really are badly run.

    ‐—————————————————–

In about the last 30 to 40 of those 57 years we have seen the likes of Dundee, Kilmarnock, Dundee United, Hearts, Aberdeen and Hibs fall so far behind us financially they have been nowhere near the challengers they once were. Rangers also died which meant we literally had a title guaranteed.

There really is no point in using that as some for of beacon of great business acumen given the change in landscape.

Also, your ask that folks come up with names who could do better in running our club is a diversionary tactic. As stated on here by many, our recruitment process is a very insular one, set that way in order to ‘control’. That could be by DD and/or PL over the years but we rarely look outside and that is a worry.

  38. lets all do the huddle on
