SILLY MONEY WANTED FOR ALLEN

LIVERPOOL have slapped an astonishing £14million price tag on Welsh international midfielder Joe Allen.
And that sky-high valuation will kill off Brendan Rodgers’ hopes of being reunited with the player at Celtic.img_1774.jpg
The Anfield outfit have noted Allen’s performances for his nation in Euro 2016 with Chris Coleman’s side only 90 minutes away from a place in the Final if they can overcome Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal on Wednesday.
Swansea have already had an £8million bid for their former star knocked back by the Merseyside club.
Allen, 26, bought by ex-boss Rodgers for £15million from the Welsh club in 2012, only has one year left on his contract and will be free to talk to interested clubs in January.
However, Jurgen Klopp is determined not to allow the hard-working midfield man to leave for anything less than £14million.
The German has noted the prices being paid for comparable performers with Arsenal spending a remarkable £35million on Switzerland’s Granit Xhaka.
Jose Mourinho, who will be unveiled as Manchester United’s new boss tomorrow, is interested in Borussia Dortmund’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who is rated in the £26million bracket.
Klopp has refused to give Allen reassurances of a regular place in his first team.
The Welsh dynamo’s opportunities will be restricted by Emre Can, James Milner, Adam Lallana and Jordan Henderson.
Allen made only 17 Premier League appearances and scored four goals last season.
Rodgers had hoped to lure the player to Parkhead, but the five-in-a-row champions couldn’t go anywhere near the cash Liverpool are now demanding.
However if the player is keen to join up with Rodgers at Celtic he may decide to stay put at Anfield for the rest of this year and sign a pre-contract in January.
Stranger things have happened…
