Simunovic in town as deadline deals loom

Transfer Deadline Day is now part of our sport. To get through it successfully requires research, money and experience. It’s a new kind of football tactics which can determine the outcome of a season every bit as much as zonal marking.

If you encounter someone say “Just go out and sign him”, mark their card. From what I hear Celtic are working on deals in an End of Days-style market this week. The domestic business (Ryan Christie) has been straightforward. All other deals, and I’m sure more will happen, are going through some sort of torture.

Croatian central defender Jozo Simunovic is in town and I expect the intent is there from all parties to conclude a deal today, but we’re 12 hours away from the window closing and six away from the English deadline, so the range of possibilities on how today pans out is almost endless.

That’s it for now. Sit tight and try to get some work done this afternoon. More when I have it.

  1. we’ll get busy from 6pm when the English window closes, scraping around the bargain bin for rejects who are looking for a loan move

  2. All is very quiet so far so squeaky bum time.

It seems strange there are so many variances with the actual deadline within what is supposed to be one european union.

  3. Geordie Munro on 1st September 2015 12:24 pm That’s the spirit Gary.

    No, that’s the strategy ;-)

  4. Your lucky or i’m unlucky weeminger!!

Im on my laptop for the first time in ages – read the article scrolled down to post…. seen zero comments but by the time I logged in there were 7 – laptop is so slow due to all the ads too… If I had been on my phone as normal the podium was mine. I blame PL – Hail Hail

    MR and MRS PAUL67!!!!!

    Congratulations all round

Does the ell still need to name a squad leaving us to try and sign players left out of final named squad?

If you’re using an iPhone,it takes forever at the moment. Stick to the lappy!

  8. Very discriminatory post there Paul67.

Assuming that all CQN lovies are of working capacity.

What about those unable to work due to disability, unemploymnet etc…

    Disappointed CSC!

can we have some qualifaction on what is expected of the unempoyed, the disabled, stay at home dads, housewives please.

    MWD said AYE :o)

  9. Fee agreed Virgil

“Southampton have agreed a fee of £11.5m with Scottish champions Celtic for Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk.

The 24-year-old is having a medical with the Premier League club before finalising a five-year contract.

Van Dijk joined Celtic in 2013 after three years with Groningen and has won two successive league titles and the Scottish Cup with the Bhoys.”

Good luck Vigil, sad to see you go but you were great to watch, good luck for your future..

  10. The figures being quoted for Simunovic seem inflated & not unique for Zargreb. Apparently they sold a wonderkid to Barcelona a season or so back for €15 million, only to be confirmed later as nearer to €1.5 million.

Whatever the true sums involved are there is no getting away from his lack of experience & the collective youth of our new look back four. We were in desperate need of some experience before replacing VVD & even more so now. While a striker is essential before the window shuts, I’d also hope we’d add an experienced defensive midfielder & also a Lubo type signing to the mix. Asking too much perhaps but as the saying goes – There’s no substitute for experience.

  11. deadline day must be a fraught for Lawwell – but after midnight he’ll be a lot clearer on his bonus…tense times.

  12. Afternoon all.

Happy Anniversary to Paul67 and his good lady.

You have made me even more nervous now. I thought the Croatian lad was a done deal. Can we only relax then @ 6.01 this evening, when the EPL will have done all their business?

Peter Lawwell met with Jamón Ruflés, Michu’s agent, in Glasgow today ahead of the strikers move to Celtic.

  14. Well I am breathless.Just finished contacting Sky Sports News Transfer Day Special to tell them how I am getting involved during the day.Well they asked.Transfer Day is so full of fun.Cant wait for all the pundits to come on,led by jolly Jim White, and his cheeky yellow tie.Feel so sorry for poor Man U,who now have two goalkeepers taking around £300,000 a week in wages, and they only need one.Well you have to,dont you.

I really hope we sign another 5-6 international players today, because I read Aidrian Dunbar today, and he frightened me witless.According to him,Sevco are brilliant, they can sign anyone because of the man with “The magic hat”and they are coming for us.Why has no one noticed this?.Into the bargain,he told us our last 4 League championship wins were”Fake”.I never realised that either.I dont really need all this angst on such an exciting Transfer Day.

    Mrs TB,pass that popcorn…

  15. The Croatian lad hasn’t been formally confirmed….however he submitted clearance papers in Brussels, and was to under-go medical.

Surely it’s as good as done??

  16. “Peter Lawwell met with Jamón Ruflés, Michu’s agent, in Glasgow today ahead of the strikers move to Celtic.”

And the medical will be done by Cheese and Onion Walkers no doubt. :))

  18. Heh Thanks to Oldtim67 for his ticket on was good to see Celtic record a 3-1 victory.managed to bump into a few cqnrs.Paul 67 thanks for the blog it was good meeting you tho briefly.

Some tangiential tosh written by some more than made up when Celtic mhen and whummin get debating,as always the context is the betterment of our club.its what we have done from day 1.

We did not die.we have been ongoing since 1888.

it is time,if our league is looked down upon or shed in a false light because the cheat is not here to correct them.

whilst David Murray,as he admitted to the tax tribunal, gained an advantage(by paying players money he would not have been able to) is assumerd to have no advantage from 1999 til the club liquidated.

Rfc conceived, rolled out as policy its economic and financial death

    no one else was involved
