Simunovic paperwork being prepared as Croat joins Celtic

124

Paperwork for Croatian central defender, Jozo Simunovic, 21, is being drawn up and will be submitted before the European and Scottish transfer windows close tonight. This has been the most tortuous signing since, well, since Celtic signed fellow Balkan Stefan Scepovic a year ago.

Simunovic was the first choice replacement for Virgil and I hear the coaching staff are delighted to get him.

The transfer is the most expensive in Scotland in 8 years and takes Celtic’s spend this window to over £8m.

We’ll go into detail on all of this tomorrow.

Phew!….Luckily we held off and ignored all those agents’ pleas…

    …phew!..

    we almost signed a striker…..

Now that’s what I call fiscal prudence XIII….

There’s a lot riding on Ciftci turning good. I hope for everyone’s sake he does.

If not then we’re hoping the Griff and Stokes don’t end up in jail or something daft like that!

    Celtic sign Jozo Simunovic

By: Mark Henderson on 01 Sep, 2015 23:00

CELTIC Football Club is delighted to announce that it has signed Jozo Simunovic, aged 21, from Croatian champions Dinamo Zagreb on a five-year contract.

Jozo is a highly rated young player and is currently part of the Croatian U21 national team and he joins hot on the heels of Ryan Christie who agreed a move from Inverness Caledonian Thistle earlier this evening.

Jozo said: “I am absolutely delighted to join Celtic. I know what a huge club I am joining, one of the biggest in Europe, and I know about its history and its great supporters.

“I can’t wait to get started and join up with my new team and begin my career at Celtic.

“I am looking forward to this move very much, I am desperate to get to Scotland and play at the famous Celtic Park.

“I know we have a lot to play for this season and there are many exciting times ahead, this is my reason for joining Celtic.

“I want to win things in my career and I think I can do this at Celtic. All I can promise the supporters is that I will be giving everything I have in every game to win and bring some good moments to our fans.”

Celtic Manager Ronny Deila added: “We are so pleased that Jozo is joining us at Celtic and I am sure he will be a great addition to our squad.

“He is a very talented young player and good on the ball, but he will also give us strength and stability in defence. I am sure he will be a success for us.

“I believe what we have done in the summer has given us a squad with real depth for the season ahead.

“We already had a strong squad going into the summer period and we have now signed eight quality players in this transfer window.

“Again we will once again look to strengthen in the January transfer window.

“We have the resources available to do this and this is something we always aim to do, ensuring that we are as well equipped as possible to bring our supporters as much success as we possibly can.”

We now have a back four consisting of largely untried prospects.

Alternatively we could field Mulgrew and Ambrose as our central defence….with Lustig and Izaguirre.

Almost certain Aberdeen will face a new central defensive partnership.

We must have at least 10 midfielders?

And with the exception of Leigh and Kris few capable of scoring goals regularly.

    Anyone else bemused?

    Ach away.

1-0-10-0 is the latest formation fad about to take aff!!!!!

With big Craig providing the aria presence at set pieces!

  5. Which striker should we have signed.Anyone got any names?.Anyone we could have had but did not go for?.Anyone champing at the bit to join us?.Somebody complaining, give us a name.

Hooper, the majority did not want him back.Fletcher, hardly anyone wanted him.

Same last year.Finboggason, too dear, not worth the money. In the same breath you say”Not expecting Celtic to go mad with the money”.Well, give us a name that would be a surefire success with us,at money we CAN afford.Man U have spent £250 million, and have one recognised striker.Michu, not wanting to come.

I will await the names .All you scouts out there, give us them.

I think when PL talked to RD about a striker, RD wasn’t too pleased at the thought of a player who would picket the team so said no thanks. At least that’s how PL translated ‘striker’ into Norwegian. Cunning trickster that he is!

  7. jamesgang on 1st September 2015 11:28 pm,

I asked earlier today. How many 1st team games did Jason play for City before he joined us?.Nobody wants to answer.Simunovic.2 Leage medals,2 Cup Medals,2 Super Cup Medals,European experience with Zagreb.Inexperienced? !!!!!!!!.Does Janko look like an inexperienced novice?.The other 2 guys have trained and played at a better level than the SPL.

Markus Rosenberg cost Malmo £700k. Ripped us a new one, I’m sure you’ll agree. Exactly the type of buy precluded by our crappy ‘strategy’. Prefer Malmo’s (winning) ‘strategy’.

  9. Hello to everyone.

Finally after reading CQN for donkeys, I am now scribing my very 1st post.

    Thanks Paul for the help.

Oh I also happen to be the lucky basket that only just won the 4-Ball golf raffle. Amazing. Thanks to JT.

    Hail ! Hail !
