Simunovic, the stats don’t lie

333

It was good to see Jozo Simunovic return to the starting line-up on Sunday. He is every inch the player we hoped he would be when he joined from Dimano Zagreb two years ago, but that was in doubt as recently as August last year, when Celtic allowed the player to travel to Italy to secure his exit from the club.

That month he and, then injured, Dedryck Boyata were well out of the picture as Celtic played their most important games of the season. Against Hapoel Be’re Shiva in the Champions League play-off round, we played Toure and O’Connell in central defence at home, with Toure and Lustig in the middle for the crucial game in Israel.

The earlier round against Astana saw O’Connell pair with Lustig in one game and Ambrose in the other. When you consider Saidy Janko started two of those four games, you appreciate how far we’ve come defensively in six months. Would you bet on Celtic to qualify for the Champions League with a defence drawn from that pool? I wouldn’t.

Dundee’s spectacular goal on Sunday (through no fault of Jozo’s) was only the second goal we’ve conceded with the Croat on the field since Dundee last scored against us. The defender aided Celtic to six clean sheets in seven games in that time.

We’ve now conceded once in each of our last three games, if Jozo remains fit, he’ll tidy up that statistic.

    JJ, Indeed. We’re only human.

One thing i’m sure we all agree on is that we want Celtic to be as Great as can be.

Wha’ts now apparent is that the English have learned the art of diving well and now may be as good as anyone in Europe at it.

I actually thought that a lot of the comments from the British politicians were quite fair (apart from the usual suspects such as the Chingford skinhead).

Over here some of the comments have been outrageous. I wholly understand the relatives of those who were impacted upon by Provisional activities being conflicted and being vocal but some of the hatred has been palpable. No recognition given to his part in cementing the peace process. The significant fact ignored by some of the nomarks is that if he hadn’t have been who he was a lot would not have bought into it. They are blinded by their hatred of where he was coming from rather than looking at where he was going to. They would rather wallow in their hatred and some elements of the Press have indulged them.

Ireland both North and South is in a much better place for his contribution. The point that I was making last night was to read, see, listen to some of the Media you would have thought Mairtin was personally culpable for every death that occurred during the Troubles. No cognisance taken of context or recognition given to the FACT that many, many of the victims were Nationalists. Not for the first time there appears to be a hierarchy of victims with Nationalists at the bottom of the heap.

Remember, you don’t have to call the old club ‘Old Rangers’. They were called Rangers. It’s the new club that aren’t called Rangers. They’re called The Rangers.

With a bit of practice and concentration this can wind up the work colleagues even more. For example – Colleague: why do you refer to Rangers and The Rangers

Me: I don’t, I refer to Rangers as Rangers. When I talk about The Rangers I use The Rangers.

    Simples.

If I was bothered to go on FB these days I would like your stuff big time, but as I can’t be bothered, well it’s not that I can’t be bothered, it’s just too quick for me, it’s the fast food of social media, also far too many tossers on it who are full of themselfs :-)

    Your stuff is amazing.

Gearoid , great posts about the treatment Mairtin McGuinness’ memory is getting in the media.

Your post last night about all the injustices in six of the Thirty Two counties prior to and during the Civil Rights movement starting then through the ‘troubles’ never getting a mention in the media , is galling. The British and to an extent some of the Irish media are not helping things by being only seeing things from one side.

Before Bloody Sunday , the membership of the Provisionals was not that high but got bigger as a result of that awful day.

I read the book , i think it was called Beyond the Grave about Brendan ‘the dark (not darkie as portrayed by the British forces and media) and loyalist , David Ervine . It was very interesting to see things from both sides for once. A prominent character in the book was loyalist prisoner, Gusty Spence , who despite his loyalist position , spent a lot of time with Republican inmates discussing politics and how the working man in the North , was being manipulated to keep the establishment status quo.

  17. I fair hate the griff not being in our team . Dont know whats going on but , were not that good a team that can afford to leave a guy of his class out . Hope BR doesnt push him ,that he asks away .

Hmmm. A few people discuss and compare the merits of Simunovic, Boyata and Sviatechenko and we are accused of making Erik a scapegoat!

I don’t thinks; I would class it as fair comment on the article today. My feeling is that Simunovic and Boyata are the best pair as do others; I’ve read back and don’t see anyone giving unjust or unfair criticism of big(ish) Erik.

I tried but as soon as you introduce PayPal, FB don’t show your posts unless you pay, the mere mention of PP and it’s a no, no.

So have settled for a shop on Etsy, don’t do so much of the leather stuff these days as the shipping costs are a joke, it’s not too bad, 20c per item for 4 months, if it sells they take 3 & 1/2%, so it’s affordable, have nearly 1900 sales in 27 months so it pays for the extras, or not having to worry about an unexpected bill.

I have two shops, one I am closing as soon as the items time is up, it doesn’t get any views, yet my tags are the same as those who get lots of views, am going to move them to the shop that does get views, about 200+ a day so it’s acceptable, 99% of my customers are American.

The mountains are fine, and thankfully still hun free, warming up big time, still mucho rain to come tho afore the real heat.
