Simunovic, the stats don’t lie

333

It was good to see Jozo Simunovic return to the starting line-up on Sunday. He is every inch the player we hoped he would be when he joined from Dimano Zagreb two years ago, but that was in doubt as recently as August last year, when Celtic allowed the player to travel to Italy to secure his exit from the club.

That month he and, then injured, Dedryck Boyata were well out of the picture as Celtic played their most important games of the season. Against Hapoel Be’re Shiva in the Champions League play-off round, we played Toure and O’Connell in central defence at home, with Toure and Lustig in the middle for the crucial game in Israel.

The earlier round against Astana saw O’Connell pair with Lustig in one game and Ambrose in the other. When you consider Saidy Janko started two of those four games, you appreciate how far we’ve come defensively in six months. Would you bet on Celtic to qualify for the Champions League with a defence drawn from that pool? I wouldn’t.

Dundee’s spectacular goal on Sunday (through no fault of Jozo’s) was only the second goal we’ve conceded with the Croat on the field since Dundee last scored against us. The defender aided Celtic to six clean sheets in seven games in that time.

We’ve now conceded once in each of our last three games, if Jozo remains fit, he’ll tidy up that statistic.

Morning all. Stunning bright sunny day in the Highlands today with azure skies.

Watched the last half hour of the Scotland game last November night. My verdict?

Have to keep that to myself. Apparently kids lurk on here.

I will say, if Ikechi Anya and Barry Bannon are the answers, then I think WGS is asking the wrong questions.

Even after all these years, I still think it’s not quite Scotland without Jordan.

He played all three games at the 1974 World Cup Finals, all three in 1978, and one game in 1982. Scored four goals. Four goals in seven World Cup Finals games, not too shabby.

  15. Turkeybhoy,

Why don’t you use social media yourself to tell that ” Idiot ” Brian Wilson to shut it. Could it be that having been a member of the SNP for a while he knows what ticks their boxes. Did he hit a nerve ?

I do know about his efforts to bring the Gaelic communities of Scotland and Ireland together and I remember his work for special needs children.

How this ” idiot ” managed to write the official 125 year history of Celtic amongst other Celtic books is astounding.

Do I agree with everything he says or does, absolutely not. But I will never condemn anybody based only on his political allegiance.

  16. It was confirmed to me yesterday that Pedro Cauxinha (that’s me) is Simply The Best manager to have managed a football team ever. King David and I agreed on this with humble praise.

King David, after drawing up the accounts announced earlier today, in blue crayon on blue accounting paper has stated to me, the best manager of a football team ever, that every penny of profit will be invested back into The Champions of Europe Elect. I will invest this more wisely than any wise man the world over could ever invest it in a superior team to any, that does not require investment because we are already simply the best ever.

King David is and was everything I knew he would be.

I love this club. I love the blueness of this club. I love the unionism of this club. I love the loyalty to royalty of this club. It is majestic of it’s love of royalty and King David.

The esteem and regard the sports media hold in King David is awe inspiring. They are a service to your wee free press.

Today is International Dog Buscuit appreciation day and to celebrate we will enjoy a lunch of Hi Life chews and Pedigree dentastix. This will provide this team with all relevent nutrients required to perform at the highest level. Dogy bags will be put aside for the 99% of our squad who are on international duty with Brazil, Argentina, Germany, France, Spain and Italy. A fine treat to return to.

    Hail! Hail! King David.

Could not care less if he had played for Celtic never mind written a book about them,is comments are ludicrous.A political nonentity trying to make himself be noticed.

I am not slagging him off for his political allegiances, just the nonsense he is spouting.Knowing what the Huns think of the SNP,”Tarriers,IRA lovers, etc,I would think he knows full well the audience he is targeting.
