Sinclair: experience, continuity, attitude. Why contract was extended

164

Retaining Scott Sinclair for next season was always going to be a big decision for Celtic.  He is the top earner at the club and will therefore consume a significant portion of the next permanent manager’s wage budget.  Neil Lennon and Brendan Rodgers both dropped the player at various stages over the last 18 months.  We all wondered, would Scott be retained, or would the cash be freed up for a fresh start?

The problem is the size of the fresh start required.  The squad needs a significant overhaul.  A right back (even if Lustig is retained), replacements for Boyata and Benkovic.   Up front we need to – at least – replace Dembele, and we have yet to learn how the latest chapter in the Leigh Griffiths story ends.

My expectation is that the new manager, Neil or other, will also look long and hard at central mid.  A Petrov-type player is required.  Then there is the possibility that another want-away, like Dembele or Boyata, may occur in August.

While an overhaul is badly needed, some experience, continuity and winning attitude will also come in handy.  Scotts Brown and Sinclair have bucket loads of all three.

Knowing how Celtic work I would think that whoever made the call to retain Scot Sinclair will be the manager next season, got to be, so they’ve either called someone to get a decision or Neil has made the decision.

    Bluegrass Celt,

Condolences on the loss of your Mum.

Hard times for many on here lately, aside from the grief of losing Two Lions in a week.

Life is indeed a bitch. ?

  6. Sinclair is hit n miss, but he never hides. I hate all the talk of complete rebuilds etc… It is simply not needed. we need 3 first team starters next season namely A rightback, A centreback and A forward to go along with marven. if we punt ntcham we may need to replace him.

Not being flippant but we’ve lost quite a few on and off the blog lately and the families and friends of those affected should be given time to mourn their losses.

  14. Interesting that the BBC are now saying that(young player of the year elect) Kent, lashed out at Scott Brown now.

Up to now it was a push

If he goes back to Liverpool, will it then become a punch?

I find this whole saga very strange i.e why is this particular player being protected

My favourite is when a diving cheat in EPL moves abroad, the behaviour is now slagged off

Any current EPL. Player – silence

They piled into Suarez last night when he was a cheating ragbag for Liverpool

Mane dives and they actually stopped talking. Been at this for years

If Salah moves to Spain he will be enemy no 1 for diving

Deepest and most sincere condolences on both your respective losses. Tough times for both of yee.

As others have said keeping SS for reasons other than obtaining a transfer fee is madness IMO. I ‘reckon he will be sold by August even if it’s for only a million, it’s good business. Keeping him with expectation of him contributing massively ( which he will be under pressure to do so given his wages ) to 9IAR is a poor decision.

We have serious cash at our disposal but every bit of it needs to be invested in an absolute minimum of 5 QUALITY players as P67 alludes to. Generally that takes SERIOUS CASH. RB 2 CB’s and 2 CF’s to be fair we also need a centre mid in my opinion. Petrov type as P67 states. High energy, powerful, good technique box to box. Could have had McGinn ( who cleaned up at AV end of season awards night including players player of the year ) for 2.5 million. If Carlsberg massive did fuck ups…..

My sister made a profound remark when we lost our brother recently.

“They say it’s hard being raised in a large family.

If you think that’s hard….try losing one.”

    God be with you all.
