After losing at home to Newco last month Motherwell comfortably overcame three lower league sides in the League Cup before delivering an excellent win at Rugby Park on the opening day of the league season. They will pitch up at Celtic Park tonight hopeful of catching Celtic with their eye on the European prize.
For Brendan Rodgers tonight will not only be an important cup game he wants to win, it’s another opportunity to improve the fitness of his squad ahead our Summer Cup Finals against Hapoel Beer Shiva, the first of which takes place one week from today.
Having only played 30 minutes so far this season, Scott Sinclair will be behind the rest of the squad in terms of match fitness and may be asked to play 90 minutes tonight. Stefan Johansen is another who could do with a full game under his belt. As for the others, it’s a balance between building endurance but making sure they get enough rest ahead of next week.
Tom Rogic’s new contract has been universally welcomed. I was late to the Rogic Appreciation Society, but it all came together last season. One of the specifics he brings is the ability to shoot from outside the box. Celtic play against packed defences most weeks (Scott Sinclair will learn that the space he exploited at Tynecastle on Sunday will be a rarity), so being able to take a pop from distance offers vital variation.
Keep an eye on Aidan Nesbitt’s progress on loan at Morton until January. Aidan (19) was at Partick Thistle for the second half of last season. Young, creative players don’t get prime billing in the bottom half of the Premiership, so a move to the Championship should give him a better platform to but on his precocious talents.
No mistakes tonight, Celtic.

Ally steak bake, when on his gardening leave, was sprinkling some vodka over freshly sown Lee Wallace seeds…fellow gardening leaver Kenny McDowell asked the plump one, “Why are you watering it with vodka?”
“Because when the Lee Wallace eventually comes up, it will already be half cut.”
Sorry….

Look ailing? That’s what I used to do to my ma when I wanted a day off school.
Never worked though.
Lefty’s earlier team seems to be the correct one.
Lefty,
He Defo suspended?
Bristol city full back would fit right in with cqn as most of them like ale-ing :)

Pleased that wee Jamsie has signed a new deal, the Brodge effect has obviously added a much needed focus to his game. Confidence in any sport is a huge attribute , without confidence , players , and wingers in particular are prone to long spells of inconsistency. Brendan will hopefully get more return from Jamsie than we’ve witnessed over the past 2 seasons. The season has started well , CQN full of fitba chat and positivity. Long may it continue.HH
Reading that Darnell Fisher has been transferred for an “undisclosed fee” thought he was going on loan but it looks like he is gone permanently.
When the Olympics meant something other than money, drugs, corruption 1 man stood out for fairness dignity,& common decency yet he is hardly known to the World though he was in one of the most iconic pics in history Peter Norman . The Quiet unassuming hero

How ya doing, pal?
I think we might have the people in place … Sviatchenko and/or Ajer would do for this role. Particularly, once we get our players back from injury, Kolo and Jozo or O’Connel could be our centre backs, which would free up Erick to move forward a bit.
To those asking:
….. Rotherham United’s official twitter feed announced the signing of Darnell Fisher (undisclosed fee) !!!!!

Not the first time I’ve seen a negative comment about Tom Rogic’s stamina.
Just think he needs a decent spell free of injuries and have the confidence of his manager.
He’s not had the former and IMHO opinion not really had the latter under NFL or RD.
Bit like Shaun Maloney, he has lately been used as an impact sub.
Since he signed in Jan 2013:
He played at ICT the day after signing, set up the equalizer for Kris Commons & was voted MOTM as we won 3-1.
Got about 7 other appearances that season, usually from the bench.
Wasn’t in the manager’s plans during 1st half of season 2013/14 and went on loan to Melbourne Victory till the end of that season.
During that loan spell, he had a recurring groin injury and returned to Celtic that summer, where the problem persisted. Eventually he had two operation to rectify it.
He did not play again until March 2015 (in a game for Development Squad)
During that injury period he missed the 2014 World Cup and the Asian Cup.
Started for Celtic for the first time in two years in August 2015 then was in and out all season.
Scored the GOTS at Kilmarnock.
Really glad to see him re-signed for 3 years.
Hope he keeps free from injury and continues to have BR’s confidence.
Stamina will come with games.
