Sinisalo development roadmap

97

Viljami Sinisalo joined Celtic 8 months ago for £1m from Aston Villa.  He spent the previous season on loan as first choice at third tier Exeter City.  As an 18-year-old, the Finn spent a season as Ayr United’s keeper in the Championship.

Kasper Schmeichel’s form has been incredible for the period Viljami has been at Celtic, and he remains under contract until 2026, so it is unlikely there will be a sustained opening at goalkeeper in the first team until at least then.

Kasper’s injury playing for Denmark in Lisbon last night is not the news Brendan Rodgers will be keen to hear, but with a month before the Scottish Cup semifinal against St Johnstone and Viljami struggling for development opportunities, it could not have come at a better time.

We have to remain a club where players can come for a modest fee, develop their talent and move on at a profit.  Viljami is the only player who has arrived in the last three transfer windows on a modest fee with such development scope.  It is important we succeed with him; time for the Sinisalo development roadmap.

Restoring some semblance of balance after the hysteria since Celtic lost to Rainjurz in Parkhead.

There have been 11 trophies handed out during the two periods whilst Brendan Rodgers has been our manager, and he’s won 10 of them.

With one more probable and one more potential come May, it could have changed to 12 trophies from 13.

That’s right we’re onto 12 trophies from 13 trophies whilst Brendan Rodgers has been the manager of Celtic.

    As ever CSC

“Viljami Sinisalo joined Celtic 20 months ago”.

If he did – I feel cheated.

… means I’ve lost a year out of my life.

As for development road for our backup keeper.

    (Overly simplistic as always).

    – train with the first team (tick)

    – be better in training than the older guy (?)

    – tell the manager how great you are (?)

    – take the older guy’s place in the team (x)

    – protect your first team status like a lioness defending her cubs

A timely reminder . No wonder our adversaries want the manager who masterminded this, gone . What puzzles and annoys me is that some of our own do too .

  5. P67 writes: ‘Viljami is the only player who has arrived in the last three transfer windows on a modest fee with such development scope.’

    Really ?

What happened to the Paulo Bernardo development investment (after a decently long test drive) at a rumoured 3mill quid ? Signed a month or a bit after Sinisalo ?

By almost any standard for a team that takes success seriously, that’s a modest fee too, Paul.

Or is someone pining for a back to freebies and cross-border kidnappings policy ?

  6. Hardly like our host to use an injury to our first team goalkeeper as a weapon against our manager.

Tant Pis. And that when he believes that Sinisalo has been at Celtic for a year longer than is the case. That is a clear cut case of not paying attention, or not being in the loop. (Cue a series of Malcolm Tucker expletives) Deleted of course Tricky Dicky style. If he does get opportunity to replace Kasper, then I hope he takes it with both hands (geddit) and shows that Celtic have added something to the development that Aston Villa have undoubtedly practised vis a vis Ayr United, Exeter City and elsewhere.

With us being only 4 hrs behind right now it really screws with my morning news/podium routine.

No reason why Sinasolo shouldn’t have had game time, when we are well ahead on games,it’s one thing training with the first team, and another in front of 60k at CP.

  10. Demanding development of players whilst losing the run of yourself over dropping points to Dundee whilst 13 clear.

Life ain’t easy for a Celtic manager with such entitled fans.

  11. The hand of God on

Developing players and selling them on for a profit is a healthy strategy but shouldn’t be the only show in town. Our recent participation in the Champions league should enable us to buy more “oven ready” players some of whom could qlso be sold for a profit

AD- Is it not common sense to give a young player game time to prepare him better, specially a goalkeeper?

Yes, meeting on Friday 28th to remember the greatly missed Tony Gillespie (SFTB).

  15. My thinking Bada is that any player, will get game time when they earn it. Ange said something similar.

I also think it’s fair enough to point out the demands placed on a Celtic manager who now has to win every single game and every trophy.

Otherwise ‘‘doubts’ begin to get regularly mentioned. Demanding to win whilst demanding to blood players seems a tad unfair and entitled.

He’s also been accused of throwing young players under the bus when he has brought them into games.

    Sometimes you just can’t win.

  16. bournesouprecipe on

Just a decimal under 3 goals a game this season, and goal difference makes our actual lead 14 points.

Who’d have thunk it ? CSC

AD- Thanks for reply, a GK is obviously a specialist position, and playing in front of 60k without any experience, might spook him

Good afternoon all from the Brazen Head. Spring has sprung in the bonny Gorbals.

It’s a pity really that their opponents, New Caledonia, did not qualify….

Bada Bing – I hear you but I’m with An Dun on this one.

Viljami needs to earn it !

I assume there is a minimum standard for goalkeeper competence – measured in training – which he has already reached?

If so, he now needs come up to, and surpass, Kasper’s standard while KS is still near his peak.

Incredibly hard thing to do (as it should be), but not impossible if one has the right mindset.

What happened to the Shay Given roadmap?

    —–

    Aye.

  23. CELTIC MAC @ 12:38 PM,

Well, Lenny Mk 2 had Vasilis Barkas and Scott Bain as back up.

Ange had Joe Hart and Scott Bain as back up, then brought in the lesser spotted Benjamin Siegrist.

Brendan’s solution was Kasper Schmeichel, Scott Bain and a highly thought of development keeper – Viljami Sinisalo.

We have Josh Clarke on loan at Ayr United.

It appears that, as per, our Manager is getting judged to a much higher standard than his predecessors.

Joe worked out well for us. At the time, I viewed his signing as a consequence of a new manager arriving during lockdown, with very limited scope.

Maybe Brendan will beat the system, this way won titles here back in the 90s, after all.
