Six days out and a mountain to climb

1664

Over the last few days we have worked with Mary’s Meals to identify a second school without basic facilities in one of the most deprived areas of the world.  We have confirmed St Josephs’ Primary School in Kasungu, Malawi (the 17th poorest country in the world), which has a roll of 746 pupils and no facilities to provide food, meaning many children have to work to feed themselves instead of being educated.

The necessary permissions have been confirmed, and Mary’s Meals can send resources there as soon as money is available.  If we are successful, St Joseph’s will get a brick-built kitchen which will double as a classroom with stoves, pots, utensils, spoons and mugs.  As a result, kids will attend school to get what on many occasions will be their only meal of the day.  They will also get an education and better chances in later life.

The cost of the kitchen is £7000.  We are only six days out from CQteN so we shouldn’t expect miracles but we’ll be here until the job is done.

Construction is underway at our first school at the Kholoni Primary School in Mchinji, Malawi, which has a school roll of 1221 children.

We have a donations page for CQN Mary’s Meals’ projects, if you would like to help out, you can do so here.

Seville, The Celtic Movement, launches this month.

“There were 10 in our party and collecting the tickets took priority. Once we had them we could afford time to eat, but what? Several restaurants were sold out but we eventually found a café with frozen chips and a meat-based slab of something or other. No choices. No beer, wine or cola either, it was diluting orange juice or water. An entire city was pretty much emptied of food and drink.”

Two elderly CQNers, BRHT and Winning Captains, decided to share a flat. BRHT always wanted a pair of authentic cowboy boots, so seeing some on sale, he bought them and wore them home. Walking proudly, he sauntered into the kitchen and said to his flatmate, ‘ notice anything different about me’? Winning Captains looked him over. “Nope’. Frustrated, BRHT stormed off into the bathroom, undressed and walked back into the kitchen completely naked except for the boots. Again he asked Winning Captains, a little louder this time, ‘ Notice anything different NOW’? Winning Captains looked up and exclaimed, ‘BRHT, what’s different? It’s hanging down today, it was hanging down yesterday, it’ll be hanging down again tomorrow!’ Furious, BRHT yelled, ‘AND DO YOU KNOW WHY IT’S HANGING DOWN, Winning Captains? ‘ Nope’, he replied. IT’S HANGING DOWN BECAUSE IT’S LOOKING AT MY NEW COWBOY BOOTS!!!!

Without changing his expression, Winning Captains replied, ‘ Shoulda bought a hat BRHT, shoulda bought a hat.

His transfer fee will not be as high as it could have been if he had been deemed good enough for Dutch World Cup squad. This anticipated snub will be on his mind as he ponders missing out on Brazil.

Time Celtic departed the backwater of SPFL,to make such players established internationals and give us half a chance of retaining their services and building a team.Must be so frustrating for Lenny every time he loses his best players.

I love that song — and often listen to Mr & Mrs Bruce sing the acoustic version at the concert for heroes — but this is the young Mr & Mrs Bruce — and at the start you see the he sports a mean pair of boots!

I do like Chris’ version though ……..

A CQNer is captured by a tribe of fierce Native Americans, but considering themselves, they offer to grant him three wishes before they scalp him. Considering his situation carefully, the CQNer says: “For my first wish, I’d like to talk to my horse.”

So the Native Americans bring his horse, and the CQNer whispers into the horse’s ear. The loyal animal almost seems to nod its head, then trots off and returns an hour later with a beautiful blonde on its back. The CQNer is clearly upset and says: “For my second wish, I want to talk to my horse again.”

The Native Americans are perplexed, but they grant this wish as well. Again, the CQNer whispers in his horse’s ear, and again the animal trots off, returning an hour later with a beautiful redhead on its back. The CQNer fumes and stomps on his hat.

The Native Americans inquire as to the CQNer’s final wish, and he says: “Let me talk to my horse one more time.” A third time, he whispers into the horse’s ear. The animal, nods, trots off, and returns an hour later with a beautiful brunette on his back.

Furious, the CQNer shouts: “You stupid horse! I said POSSE!
