SKIPPER IN KYOGO PLEA

CALLUM McGREGOR has urged Celtic NOT to sell Kyogo Furuhashi as speculation mounts on the future of the prolific hitman.

The Japanese striker saw THREE goals ruled out in the team’s 1-0 Champions League Cup triumph over Switzerland’s Young Boys at Parkhead last night.

Reports of a £10million switch to French side Rennes intensified after the match that saw Brendan Rodgers’ men make certain of a place in the play-offs in Europe’s elite competition with one game – against Aston Villa in the Midlands on Wednesday – still to play.

The rumour factory has also chucked former fans’ favourite Filipe Jota into the mix as the transfer deadline looms on Monday February 3.

NO GOAL NUMBER ONE…Kyogo Furuhashi thrashes a drive past Marvin Keller.

NO GOAL NUMBER TWO…Kyogo turns away with the referee signalling a goal before VAR stepped in.

NO GOAL NUMBER THREE…Kyogo fires past the Swiss keeper again, but Daizen Maeda had strayed just offside in the build-up.

Reacting to the suggestions of an imminent deal for the pacy frontman who has claimed 85 goals in his three and a half years at the club, McGregor said: “He’s a top player. Again, you see his quality, his movement, the way he sets the tone for the team.

“All our good players, we want to keep them for as long as we can and generally when there’s speculation, then people have done well so we want that, as well.”
The Hoops’ inspirational skipper, speaking to Celtic TV, added: “It gets people talking about Celtic and the players we’ve got.
“I’m sure the club will do everything they can to keep him because he’s a top player and a top person, as well.”
Kyogo was one of Ange Postecoglou’s first signings for the club when he paid £4.6million to bring in the international forward, who has just turned 30, from J-League outfit Vissel Kobe in July 2021.
