Sky refuse to cooperate with subtitle issue

128

Sky Television have refused to explain the circumstances that led them to broadcast incorrect subtitles accusing Celtic fans of racism.  Consequently, Celtic refused the broadcaster permission to attend the press conference previewing tonight’s SPFL game against Hearts.

Celtic reported the matter to Ofcom, who confirmed they are assessing the issue.  Sky apologised for their broadcast, but appear intent on bunkering down to protect those responsible.

Before you attempt a cover-up, you should first check if everyone knows you are attempting a cover-up.  Sky are busted, they behaved atrociously.  This is a cover-up, which is also atrocious, and will only hold if Ofcom take no action.

Who authored the tampered subtitles and who authorised the hooky material for broadbcast?  If Sky were genuinely concerned, they would answer accordingly.

Rather fitting that our final memory of Kenny Misser in Scottish football will be that sitter he missed against us haha

If you want to see what wee Frimpers can do to improve his game the most, watch him in the lead up to Misser’s miss.

    Genuinely concerned or genuinely sorry?

I think there is no doubt they will be concerned ….. for themselves.

‘If Sky were genuinely concerned, they would answer accordingly.’

Quite , and by not doing so they are advertising their complicity.

Sky deliberately broadcast false slanderous information.

If Ofcom fail to get to the bottom of this – then THEY have no credibility.

  7. Nice to see Rangers offered the 12 year old alleged racist an invite to courses designed to help people understand why racist and sectarian abuse is unacceptable.

Sadly there is a bit of a waiting list, about 50,817 !

  8. Spoke to a pal last night, who is a PF,he said a 12 year old, could appear in court, depending on the type and nature of what was allegedly said.

  9. Just recieved a message saying, the 12 year old was arrested for breaching the Communications Act 2003,in relation to a video on social media ,and not a direct charge of racism against the boy.Not sure how true this is,or indeed if the boy was actually at the game.

  10. McGregor’s assist rate is down and he completes 92% open play passes.

Playing it safe? Time for a deeper dive.

  11. I am glad Celtic are not letting this go. I would hope that they get Legal Advice on the possibility of taking Legal Action against Sky for defamation.

Our good name & our Brand are hugely important in a myriad of ways not least in attracting shirt sponsors etc,

Being branded Racist could cost us dearly in hard cash. That is exactly what the Sky Broadcast did.

Obviously I am not a Lawyer but I feel we must have a strong case.

A man speaks in Spanish and the TV Company puts up a totally different narrative accusing Celtic fans of racism,

If OfCom do not act on this , we should instigate Legal Action, win or lose nobody would ever mess with us again.

  12. Ole Hoops legend Zheng Zhi scored the winner in Neil Lennon’s first game in charge against Hertz

and another tough game maybe tougher than some fans think, as it’s been a while since Hertz came to Celtic Park with a football manager.

Whatever side, or formation NFL picks should be way too strong and enough to collect all three points, no matter how desperate Hertz. Would imagine Bolingoli to be one of few fringe players that will retain a spot in a return to 3-5-2. James Forrest to confound the empty jerseyists and remain the first name on virtually every team sheet.

With Ntcham already sparkling, Christie El Younoussi and Rogic gagging for a game, it’s happy dilemmas for NFL who is still most likely to field the Griffalo whilst unleashing Eddy the player of any month, and a great wee floodlit in Paradise is on the menu.

They never had a good word to say about Celtic that I can remember , I cancelled awhile ago anyway with the call handler being told it was due to being anti Celtic ,not much attempt was made to change my mind , even their staff seem aware that this is the case, I hope the Glasgow smiler syncophant of all celebrities is involved.

Section 127 Improper use of public electronic communications network

    (1) A person is guilty of an offence if he—

(a)sends by means of a public electronic communications network a message or other matter that is grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character; or

(b)causes any such message or matter to be so sent.

    (2) A person is guilty of an offence if, for the purpose of causing annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety to another, he—

(a)sends by means of a public electronic communications network, a message that he knows to be false,

(b)causes such a message to be sent; or

(c)persistently makes use of a public electronic communications network.

    (3) A person guilty of an offence under this section shall be liable, on summary conviction, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or to a fine not exceeding level 5 on the standard scale, or to both.

This is a summary offence. All of the material published by ScotGov/COPFS directs that children charged with summary offences should be redirected to either the Children’s Reporter or to an early intervention or Diversion scheme.

    The whole thing stinks.

  15. If this is true, then go the full road with them.No comments whatsoever, not even what the crews in BBC do,print out what Seethin has said, zilch. For the Hun game in 4 weeks, nothing. Its going out worldwide. In the meantime, surely, there is a legal case here.Sky,by whatever means, have tainted the Celtic brand,as well as our fan base. This could have repercussions in attracting sponsorship, especially in today’s climate. To say,oh well, sorry, that’s it,is a disgrace. As a club,we should be demanding heads roll, and a serious recant by Sky during peak viewing times,eg,the Hun game in 4 weeks.

Our initial statement was fine, but now the stakes have been raised.See them, and raise them.

  16. My friends in Celtic,

A little bit of research tells us that very, very very few 12 year olds are prosecuted in the criminal courts system in Scotland.

Was this the crime of the century to make such an example of a child, or was it a politically motivated appeasement in this fully devolved system.

Racism is no trival matter, however this whole episode is farcical with ulterior motives.

  17. TBB,

Excellent bit of investigative journalism there. The goal is gaping, will we tap in the winner.

  18. Celtic have to be careful here, A 12 year old has been charged with Racism by Police. This is alleged to have happened when Morelos was sent off.

it is obviously a set up by Traynor as a justification for Morelos leaving Scotland. The difficulty will be proving it

I’m sure the vast majority of Celtic fans are the same.

It remains to be seen how seriously Celtic aside from letter writing feel when the club is besmirched.

  21. Celtiic should let the fans know officially about this by a club statement and a cleverly worded script without libeling themselves ( if that is possible) . Encourage fans to cancel their Sky subscritions en mass . Also let supporters clubs know and how about a leaflet of some sort for every single fan who attends a game at Celtic park over the course of a few home games. Hit them the only way that matters , subscriptions . If we did do this then surely the Sky people higher up the chain would sit up and think WTF is going on here . Take it out of Sky Scotlands bigoted hands . Let the other teams in the league who depend on the Sky money sweat because every single one of them has sat on their hands ( along with Celtic sadly) and done nothing while all the cheating has went on . This is surely a line in the sand moment for Celtic . Let them all know that we will not be pissed about any longer . Keep up the pressure Celtic because behind the scenes you can be sure that Rangers and Sky Sport Scotland are colluding as we speak to blame it on some Patsy , laugh at us and carry on as normal. Its a sport its meant to be fun …….Jeezo how we have let these b@@@@ds ruin our game

  22. TBB- Thanks for added info as I said no idea if source is credible, maybe Paul 67 would know, after all he had an article on the alleged incident, on Feb 4.

  23. Can see Sky using this as a way of getting rid of Boyd,Walker and Co,and bringing in the BT guys, who are much better

    My friends in Celtic,

    ***

    Research? From journalists in Scotland?

You are right, a quick search of the mygov.scot website tells you:

“Children aged 12 to 16 can be taken to court but only for serious crimes. Most offences committed by children of this age will be dealt with by early intervention (like a warning or help from a support organisation) or the children’s hearings system”

Don’t think shouting at a football match would be classed as a serious crime.

  25. Dbhoy- I posted earlier, spoke to a pal who is a PF last night, he said a 12 year old could appear in court, depending on the nature of the abuse racist, homophobic etc HH

  26. So it was online ?

..two season ticket holders seen it on line and reported the person who posted it ?

Them two season ticket holders must be busy scouting the hunnish internet and reporting all the racist stuff that’s posted …ye think eh ?

  27. theBHOYfromU.N.C.L.E on

Should get the two ST holders concerned to do the half time draw so we could show our appreciation.
