Sky Sports ex-Newco man plows into Celtic

233

Sky Sports followed the news that they captured SPFL TV rights with one of their media team having a go at Celtic and Peter Lawwell.  Andrew Dickson (not that one) was previously part of Newco’s media team but is now a producer with Sky.

Following Peter Lawwell’s response to a question on needing assurance for the safety of Celtic fans at Ibrox, Dickson tweeted:

“Only place there has been a safety issue in recent times was at Celtic Park – involving Celtic fans. No track record of the problems Lawwell fears at Ibrox so why chuck that one into the conversation? To make your opponents look like big bad Rangers?”

I have been going to Ibrox for 35 years.  During that time, and for decades before, Celtic fans had exclusive access to the stadium via Broomload Road.  On 29 December, 800 Celtic fans will have to make their way through Broomload Road, which will also be the only access area 7,000 Newo fans have to the stadium.

There is a bit of a pantomime goes on at these games, with fans shouting at each other from the safety of a police cordon.  Due to police planning, fans do not intermingle in the vicinity of the stadium.

Police permit fans of other clubs to walk through Newco fans to attend Ibrox (and Celtic Park), but they have yet to decide if cordons is unnecessary for next month’s fixture, or if segregation it to happen, how 800 Celtic fans can safely enter the stadium.

Celtic have been in regular dialogue with the police and League since Newco’s statement on the subject in the summer and await a decision.  Sky Sports staff seem to have picked up the baton to support Newco’s position, despite safety concerns.

At least there should be no trouble after the match, that lot are usually well home by full time.

I agree with your point about the more people posting,And the more views posted, the better.

Though I might draw the line at someone wishing that CQN dies .

  2. Allegedly of course.

Still referring to Jabhat al-Nusra as the Syrian Rebels though.

The old white helmets will be disappointed that Russia still hasn’t moved against the last bastion of terrorism in Syria that is Idlib.

    HH. ?

  3. I agree that Neganon shouldn’t have criticised the site the way he did elsewhere, however, he is totally correct about our board and Paul not wanting to bite the hand that feeds him.

People on here who back Lawwell and the rest of the board have short memories.

Only a few months ago they were actively briefing against Brendan to Chris McLaughlin of Radio Scotland.

Their inaction on res 12 is farcical..Auldheid even supplied info to them which was a slam dunk!

Paul 67 is regarded as a board brownnose on other sites.

Remember that Paul’s header tells us that CQN is Celtic news, not lazy journalism..well. Paul avoiding any mention of res 12 is not just lazy, its listless, torpid and bone idle journalism.

I would love to know how the Paul of yesteryear who set up this site would react to the current Paul for betraying the ideals he originally set the site up for.

  4. Good afternoon on a damp chilly Cyber Monday.

With loads of time on my hands, I’m watching BT3 coverage of the Bundesliga.

    Shocked I tell you. Shocked.

After their win, the Schalke side went to their fans to applaud them.

Police Scotland obviously still live in the 19th century, or maybe even earlier.

    Lambert14,

the site was set up to counter anti-~Celtic news, having a go at the Plc could be considered any-Celtic, they have convinced him that remaining silent on Res12 in line with the SMSM is best for the Plc

  7. onenightinlisbon on

Our players being criticised for doing as they always do at the end of a home match. Inflammatory? I’ll tell you what’s inflammatory, Rangers players doing a mock huddle at Celtic park. But that’s just banter when they do stuff like that don’t you know?

It’s pretty obvious that Paul has a laisser faire attitude to what subjects are posted after the leader.

You’re post being a prime example.

Even if it’s OTT accusing him of betraying ideals.

Playing the man, not the ball?

There have been plenty of posters waxing lyrical or otherwise about the AGM, Res12.

Auldheid has been prominent in providing in depth analysis of the case and its status.

I have lots of time on my hands and I’ll look forward to your solutions to keep every Celtic fan happy with every issue the club faces.

    Lambert14,

in realty the Plc are the club since only they make the decisions on the club strategy and direction, the support are customers that’s it. Telling the support they are part of the club is simply a way to butter up loyal customers who will if possible be priced out the game at the soonest opportunity.

  13. hunderbirds are gone luv ya to bits pal, but the woman is dying all she wants is to see her beloved Jorge one last time, she is in her own isolation unit nobody else there, please tell me you would give her that right,hh.

  14. There’s no doubt neg had a beef with Paul ?

His outburst on sentinelcelts was poor ?

But can all you sensitive souls cam down?

There’s been a lot worse said on here,a lot worse.?

Incidentally Sentinelcelts can’t be held responsible for every comment made on their site?

    Just like CQN ?

  15. I believe most of us are able to separate Celtic the business and Celtic the magical entity.

We can attack and criticise the Businessmen involved in the plc whilst still loving and supporting the idea of Celtic

. Lisbon, Seville,European nights and former greats enter the emotional stadia of our minds in glorious technicolour or misty black and white. Crispy balance sheets remain in the dull (bit essential) filing cabinets of Celtic, the Business.

Thousands will continue to support the Celtic of the Mind no matter how distant we feel from The Board.

If The Board take advantage of that unconditional love , the shames is theirs, not ours.

Is Thursday night as important as the League Cup Final?

In a nutshell,: Do we play our strongest team on Thursday or do we keep Sunday in mind?

Brendan seemed to suggest `strongest team` against The Borg then let Sunday take care of itself.

    Compromise possible ?

Perhaps , unless her condition mitigates against it , the lady could be wheeled into a public area for a short while .

  18. Why,just, why,is it left to Brendan to come out and defend our team for parading around the park after every gameJust WTF are ourBoard thinking about.?Where is PL,and for that matter, where is Bankier, who seems quite willing to jump onto any bandwagon about in his opinion,”Sectarian singing”.Is it becoming a bunker mentality?Shocking letting the manager face these questions ,when a strong statement from the Board, would relieve him from the hacks.

    Disgraceful.

I agree totally. Paul gave us this blog 14 years ago. A place where Tims could discuss all things Celtica (copyright Kojo) till the cows come home. An absolute gift. Paul was/is also very laidback about the content of posts as long as posters didn’t use sweary words (that’s slipped a bit). He allows everyone their say even if it’s an attack on him. It’s disgusting that the poster under discussion used this blog so often throughout the years to express his opinion and then goes on another blog attacking Paul and expressing the wish that CQN dies. It gives pleasure to many, many Celtic fans and he actually hopes that it is taken away from us.

    Hot Smoked,

while I agree with the jist, I suggest they don’t consider it shameful but rather a badge of distinction and testament to their business acumen that does not let things like ethics and codes of conduct get in the way of exploiting suckers.

I hear what you are saying, but a few thoughts:

Separating the businesss from the magical entity …. we wouldn’t let the zombies away with that (by we, I mean Celtic fans… our Board and the league seem to feel otherwise) … sauce for the goose…

What about ‘fool me once, shame on you ‘ thing …. if we dont know we are being taken advantage of, that is one thing… but, once we know, dont we have an obligation to do something about it…. or it is no longer just the SFA’s problem or the Board’s problem, we make it our own problem.

If Celtic get into bed with the zombies/the league, at what point does ‘the idea of Celtic’ become just that … an idea, as opposed to a reality?

In this world, you typically dont get something for nothing … if you want something, you have to work for it … why would cleaning up the cheating be any different. Bullies will continue to bully, unless and until someone stands up to them. It was true when we were kids, and it is true now…

I said to Mahe recently, that, for me, the measure of love is what one is prepared to sacrifice for it…. most of us would take a bullet for your family (literally, most of us would lay down our lives for the ones we love) ….. what are we prepared to do to protect Celtic?

  22. HOT SMOKED,

Of course we play our strongest team on Thursday.Brendan himself has spoken,at the weekend of the folly of looking ahead to the next game. Each of these games is important ,for different reasons.Win them both, debate finished.

That was another excellent The Verve B side single you posted last night thanks.

Wigan’s finest The Verve, follow in a fine North West England tradition of bands with B sides as good as the A side. Liverpool had The Beatles. Manchester had The Smiths, The Stone Roses and Oasis. Probably I include The Charlatans and James, who I go to see next Wednesday. Cannae wait.

    HS,

both games should have the strongest team available, don’t see the issue, european and a cup final, all the players will want to play in both.

  28. Compatriots,

I am really looking forward to Thursday night and beautiful Sunday afternoon. I still get that buzz, anticipation and sense of excitement prior to big Celtic games.

Like many others on here, Celtic is in my DNA. To cut all contact with the club is unthinkable and I cannot envisage this happening. God willing I will renew my ST, even if I can’t make half the games.

Yes, I want our board to sometimes do things differently and I’m disappointed with Res 12’s outcome to date. But overall I think we are in a good place.

Put simply I get too much joy from watching and being associated with Celtic to contemplate walking away. This is only my perspective, and I am aware that my personal choice will not sit well with others.

As far as I am concerned, the Board problem has only come to the fore since the birth of the internet blogs.Me and my friends, going to see Celtic since 1964,never and I mean never, mentioned the Board in all of the years we followed. Can anyone on here, say different.?The internet has opened up the whole world .Some may think its a good thing, but I loved watching Celtic in the years of the Kellys and Whites.Did I care.Never gave them a second thought.Same with todays Board for me.Could not give a toss for them.As long as we are winning.Thats my view of supporting Celtic.
