Smell of blood on the brown brogues

383

Read this morning that the Tynecastle pitch is 19-years-old.  Celtic’s is less than three-years-old.  Hearts have responded quickly to criticisms of their surface and will have a new pitch laid before the end of the month.  Having a top quality football pitch in Scotland isn’t a cheap business.  Celtic pay £500k per year in running, maintenance and depreciation costs for the sunlamp system which keeps the grass as alive as it is.  On top of that there’s costs for ground staff, under-soil heating and various other equipment.

And more at Lennoxtown, of course.  You wouldn’t believe the costs involved in running a football operation at a club with facilities the size of Celtic Park and Lennoxtown.  Modern football in massive stadiums isn’t something you can carry out on a shoestring.

On the Newco debacle at Dundee yesterday; this wouldn’t have happened under Mike Ashely’s watch, whether you regard that particular scenario as malevolent or benevolent. With an active link to Ashley, Newco would benefit from professionalism in the boardroom and better players in the dressing room.  What we’re now enjoying is 100% the work of Dave King, who during his electioneering phase promised so much.

Instead of an Ashley appointed CEO, manager and selection of players from Newcastle’s secondary squad, they’ve sacked their manager and given the guy who put the cones out for the youth team responsibility to finish above Aberdeen. The upshot of this is that the players they need to dig them out of this mess – like Kenny Miller who is not being offered a new contract – know that the decks will be cleared for the new manager.  This is a perfect way to demotivate a squad.

If Celtic (or Aberdeen) win the Scottish Cup, the top four Premiership places qualify for Europe, which would be reassuring for Newco, were it not for St Johnstone, who sit six points adrift from them. But unlike Newco, St Johnstone only have to play Celtic one more time this season.  Saints manager Tommy Wright will smell blood on the brown brogues.  Don’t bet against him.

The message below is from Vmham, who is one of the brave souls cycling from Celtic Park to Lisbon in May.  Please get involved with this magnificent project if you can, there is more information on the MyDonate page linked below:

“CQN’ers, as you may know I’ve been training most of last year for an epic cycle from Celtic park  to Estadio Nacional in Lisbon 25th May 2017.  We wanted to mark the 50th anniversary of the “first British team” to win the European cup, Celtic done it in style with a team whose 11 players were born within a 30ml radius of Celtic park.  As a CQN’er I was involved in the bringing home Kano campaign way back and have contributed financially to support CQN’s website and still do. If anyone would like to sponsor me you can by clicking here on MyDonate page, thanks folks and see you at the party in Lisbon :>)

I would be happier if that came from a better source than Johnjames ( and before GFTB has a go at me for my apparent lack of sympathy for Morton, I am sure everyone else knows what I mean) ,

The real disgrace was the linesman,I thought. He was yards away with a perfect view from the side.

Having spoken to JPT he has assured us the Celtic are taking this very seriously and are concerned that GCC haven’t thought this through. I see no evidence produced that this isn’t the case.

The money being brought to the local economy in the East End of Glasgow (and further afield) by Celtic fans is considerable and GCC don’t seem to have taken this on board.

It should also be noted that this isn’t just affecting match-days at Celtic Park; it also affects events at the Emirates Arena. A similar proposal has been developed for Ibrox Stadium as well.

  6. I saw the ” tackle” on KT today. ASSAULT!! If that had happened to Chelsea or Man U player their colleagues would be all over the ref like a rash. Very surprised BR does not have our players geared to a bit of on-field intimidation of the mibs. It might cost a few bob in fines but at least the problems would be highlighted

  8. Reading all the reactions to the assault on KT on Saturday, I wonder if that guy at the SFA who looks at events after games to see if action should be taken against individuals who have escaped the correct punishment will look at this attack and penalise the offender. Or are we Celtic, so nothing to be seen there pal?

Thanks for that. I certainly hope that is the case. Once set in stone parking restrictions are rarely removed, but the “fines” tend to keep going up, £60 quid the going rate in Glasgow these days. That is what GCC are really concerned about.

  11. Just read the following exchange on sevcomedia ‘Manager rumours’ thread.

‘Arsenal Wenger would do the job.’

    ‘Wenger? He’s on £8m a year.’

    ‘Exactly! He’s made his money!’

They just don’t get it. It’s pretty scary stuff.

£60 (£30 if paid within 14 days) may be the thin end of the wedge; I would expect cars being lifted and charged £180 at the impound yard!

It is, IMHO, a revenue generating exercise and don’t be surprised to see pay zones springing up in streets further out but close to the ground (e.g. around Duke St). Rich pickings for anyone who can get planning permission to build a multi-storey car park!

Over and above that the entrepreneurs charging a nicker to “watch yer motor mister” will have a serious economic downturn!

    Celtic Mac,

The west end was subjected to GGC consultation over local parking, from my understanding the residents overwhelmingly rejected resident permits and parking meters, I can inform you that the parking meters are being installed ready for this summer and if you live in the area you can apply for one of the limited number of permits for your area. That’s how consultation and democracy work in the west end of Glasgow. I suspect the Plc know of this and decided it’s probably more prudent to spend their time and resources on more beneficial and achievable crusades like res12 for example :)

  17. BMCUW,

No an excuse but the KT assault took place on the line about 18 yards out from goal. The linesman on the stand side was in the half Celtic were defending, 30 odd yards away.

It is entirely the referee who is culpable, imo. He saw it but reckoned a yellow would suffice.

  18. The KT tackle was with a straight leg studs first. If had been standing on his left leg his knee ligaments would have been done.

  22. Read on Monkey Media a response to a poster who thought Admin was possible

“How can a team looking to sign a DOF and a manager like De Boer be looking at Admin.Listening to to many Taigs”

Anyway,I did not know a team who had gone into Admin, and never came out,as their brain dead followers believe, could go into a sort of parallel Admin.I know they live in a parallel universe, but surely not.

Endless fun for me reading these morons.

Funny thing is huge amounts of money are being spent on roads taking traffic into Glasgow.

Let’s fine them when they get there.

I guess at some stage in the medium future there will be debates on CQN concerning same.
