Snout in trough required, Champions League frustrations

768

The frustration at the news Derk Boerrigter is injured, again, and will miss another important Champions League game, is enormous.  Derk was a big part of our summer signing strategy but he came with a caveat concerning his propensity to suffer injury.

We have seen only flashes of him since he joined from Ajax in the summer.  His opportunities to exploit his undoubted speed in SPFL games will be limited by opponents tendency to defend deep, denying him space to run into, making Champions League games all the more important to his season.

Our other pace player, James Forrest, will surely come into sharp focus for the visit of Ajax on Tuesday.

I see Alasdair Johnston is expressing concern that Our Hero is still pulling the strings at Ibrox!  I never thought of that!

Let’s see…. He is a director of Sevco 5088 Ltd, the firm which had an irrevocable right to buy the assets of liquidated Rangers, he issued a pre-action letter to exercise those rights, there was in independent ‘inquiry’ which completely failed to investigate control of Sevco 5088 Ltd, then he went quiet. Why are we always a day behind the news?

Does that mean he got bored and went away, or is he conducting his business in private?  I am sure it’s the latter but Craig Whyte is the least of Johnston’s concerns when it comes to who is able to pull strings at Ibrox.  All the action is offstage.

Speaking about what is happening offstage, whenever Rangers International’s advisers confirm how the company can appoint sufficient executives to be compliant with AIM requirements, they will need a new chief executive.

Going by recent (and not so recent) trends they will need someone with their snout constantly in the trough, with impeccable Rangers credentials, with their snout constantly in the trough, who is currently available for work, with their snout constantly in the trough, who has previously worked in the game and with their snout constantly in the trough.

If only they could find another genuine fan who would be prepared to do whatever necessary in return for a remarkable contract.  Can’t think of anyone.

Wait a minute………

Thanks to everyone who participated in Show Your Hand yesterday.

The fundamental issue here is not whether a bunch of 18-23 year olds will bounce around the Bigot Dome in uniform singing the sash and other ditties…..they do that in civvies anyway.

Rather society needs to be asking itself why the GOC Scotland (he is a General FFS) allowed the halfwits under his command to do this two years on the bounce.

One Scotland….many cultures…..so long as your not a Roman Catholic it would seem!

Another load of bollocks about Boeriggter who played more than thirty games for Ajax last season, the only time he played less than this was when he had a broken back.

He doesn’t have glass anything he has been unlucky, no more no less since he joined Celtic.

Clearly you don’t enjoy supporting Celtic, why don’t you do one and support the the Huns!

  6. Every sacred cow should be slaughtered. Even Morrissey. Oops! That phrase wasn’t really appropriate in the context of Morrissey was it? Off oot now. Meat isn’t murder.

  8. I went to see Arbroath V Airdrie ( Is it OK to call them that?) last Saturday. A cracking game with Arbroath winning via a last minute penalty. In the pub before the game, one Airdrie fan was a bit cocky in a Hun-like way but, and this is the point of this post, all the other Airdrie fans at the game were just ordinary football fans supporting their team. There was no segregation of supporters and not a sniff of trouble. Two thoughts arose from this:

    1) Are we ( Celtic Supporters) too ready to tar too many as Huns? These guys were DEFINITELY Airdrie supporters and nothing else;

    2) Yet again, very well-behaved football supporters have shown that the ridiculous Offensive Behaviour etc Bill is most certainly NOT to do with the general behaviour of football supporters at games.

the first time the word classic was mentioned was in an interview with john wilson for the bbcs front row,it was actually said as a joke.penguin have shareholders to think of.everything gets less important.penguin put the release date back because of an issue with content, probably calling the royal family britains biggest benefit scroungers.

  10. Injuries, suspensions. We look like underdogs again.

    I like that.

But i do wonder what our team will look like.

Kayal needs a game at the weekend. Ambrose can play RB but i like him and virgil together.

  24. I think Celtic are quite correct to appeal the Broonie ban – I mean there is violent conduct and violent conduct, – Broonie’s ‘crime’ was hardly off the radar.

    JOHN O’NEILL

My dad came to Scotland in 1936, aged 12. He was taken to his very first Celtic game the following year, by his two Scottish based Italian uncles – Joe (Giuseppe) and Sal (Salvatore): they could have been a couple of extras in the ‘Godfather’!

He loved the Hoops and had the great privilege of cheering on legends like Jimmy McGrory(!) who was at the end of his illustrious career, Malcolm MacDonald (who later became a friend), Jimmy Delaney, Bobby Evans, Charlie Tully, Sean Fallon (the hardest tackler he ever saw!), Bobby Collins…

I’ll stop there as I could be here all night!

Not to mention the Lions! Well I just have!

He loved the beautiful game wherever it was played.

Two of his all-time favourites were Alfredo Di Stefano and Ferenc Puskas – whoever they were!

He also had a soft spot for Sampdoria for some reason!

  27. Right we need a team for Saturday and we need a team for Ajax from our remaining upright and available players.

I would risk the 3 points against Hibs by fielding:-

    Zaluska

    Fisher Findlay Van Dijk Chalmers

    Forrest Kayal Biton Brown Commons

    Balde

    and for Ajax:-

    Forster

Lustig (or Fisher) Ambrose Van Dijk Izzy

Forrest Kayal Ledley (or Biton) Commons Sammi

    Pukki (or Stokes)

I am torn as to whether we need 2 defensive mids in Kayal and Ledley (or Biton) to screen our right back if Fisher has to play or whether to try two up front because neither Pukki or Stokes, supported by Commons, is a very testing attack for Ajax to face.

Should we go 4:4:2 to give them something to think about or do we defend our exposed right back? No doubt, Lenny will get crucified for whatever he does.

  28. So they ain’t prosecuting any of the armed forces, what about the thousands of zombies caught in camera???
