SNUB FOR CELTIC DOUBLE-ACT

LEIGH GRIFFITHS has paid a heavy price for his lack of goals and game time at Celtic by being snubbed by Steve Clarke’s Scotland World Cup squad.

The 30-year-old frontman has netted a mere seven goals in 25 appearances for the Hoops in a dismal campaign and has been axed to make way for Southampton’s Che Adams in the 23-player squad.

Griffiths’ midfield team-mate David Turnbull has also been overlooked for the World Cup qualifying triple-header which kicks off against Austria at Hampden a week on Thursday.

The impressive youngster, who arrived in a £2.25million switch from Motherwell in the summer, has scored eight goals since coming into the team against Lille in December when he claimed the winner in the side’s solitary victory in Europa League Group H.

However, there is a place for Hoops centre-back Jack Hendry, who is enjoyed an impressive loan season at Belgian outfit KV Oostende.

Greg Taylor, Ryan Christie and Callum McGregor also get the nod from gaffer Clarke.

Scotland squad:

Goalkeepers: Gordon, Marshall, McLaughlin

Defenders: Considine, Gallagher, Hanley, Hendry, McKenna, O’Donnell, Palmer, Robertson, Taylor, Tierney

Midfielders: Armstrong, Christie, Fleck, Jack, McGinn, McGregor, McLean, McTominay

Forwards: Adams, Dykes, Fraser, McBurnie, Nisbet
