So which journos were secretly being paid by Oldco?

622

How many people working as ‘journalists’ in Scottish football were secretly on the payroll of Oldco Rangers (or Rangers International, for that matter)?  Is this common practice in newspapers, did the Daily Record know about it? Wonder how they will play the news story…

Any suggestions as to who else might’ve been on the oldco/Sevco payroll?  Any ex-Celtic players?

Most of us have spent the last season trying to value Victor Wanyama.  If he goes, it’s important we achieve as high a price as possible, not for the money itself, but Victor’s value will be reflected in the value of the rest of the squad – and it’s important we move our player trading up the food chain.

SPL football doesn’t count towards a valuation but the Champions League does, and Victor’s five group games (less so the Juventus games) are the basis of whatever figures will be offered.

Delighted Celtic are hosting a charity match in September for Stiliyan Petrov’s new charity foundation. The player has undertaken a remarkable fight over the last year or so and is an example to many.

I think he was well aware of what was going on. Surely he could have refused to take questions on tne matter or left the studio.

I think he was glad of the media position he was in to give his opinion.

It means a paper trail has been left, no accusations of paranoia can stick, or even be offered.

The proof of the cheating and collusion grows, it is overwhelming to us because we have known it for years, the world at large is just beginning to learn.

Alf Young, who at various points was both economics and later executive editor of the Herald, wrote back in 1993-4 about David Murray’s excessive reliance on Bank of Scotland lending, (specifically in relation to Rangers PLC) and was made persona non grata at Ibrox (and elsewhere) for his efforts. This at around the same time Fergus was in the process of trying to take control (you cannot own) of Celtic. He wrote about this a year or so back, in the Scotsman if I remember correctly. Some time later, not quite sure of the dates now, I contacted the Daily Record, who had reported positively on Murray selling the Albion Road training ground to himself, and leasing it back to Rangers on terms (a fifteen year lease I think) that were extremely generous, …. to David Murray. I do not recollect the journalist I spoke to, but despite conceding the point, (that Murray was milking Rangers) he argued that Murray had ploughed millions into the football club to which I pointed out, correctly as it turned out, that Murray never put a penny of his own money into the club. That piece of land was sold to the owners of the new club only last year, ostensibly by Murray himself, but I would be very surprised if the Record (maybe they should think about a new name there) or anybody else returned to that story, which as time has shown, was just one of many decisions Murray made for his own benefit, his own EBT being just one.
