So which journos were secretly being paid by Oldco?

622

How many people working as ‘journalists’ in Scottish football were secretly on the payroll of Oldco Rangers (or Rangers International, for that matter)?  Is this common practice in newspapers, did the Daily Record know about it? Wonder how they will play the news story…

Any suggestions as to who else might’ve been on the oldco/Sevco payroll?  Any ex-Celtic players?

Most of us have spent the last season trying to value Victor Wanyama.  If he goes, it’s important we achieve as high a price as possible, not for the money itself, but Victor’s value will be reflected in the value of the rest of the squad – and it’s important we move our player trading up the food chain.

SPL football doesn’t count towards a valuation but the Champions League does, and Victor’s five group games (less so the Juventus games) are the basis of whatever figures will be offered.

CB, you can spell it both ways. One is Irish Gaelic and the other is Scottish Gaelic. It’s a bit like the different spellings of the name Ruairidh, which I can vouch for.

  10. My hope is that Victor will come to realise that another year at CP will not only assist him to mature and improve, but with CL exposure his reputation and value will soar. The chance to match his ability with the elite of Europe is a far better prospect than battling to beat relegation in the lower half of the EPL.

Celtic can afford to use him sparingly and not have to play him in every game when he is tired or not 100% fit.

VW should do a Petrov and sign an extension with a transfer clause guaranteeing that come the summer of 2014 Victor will be able to leave on Celtic receiving an offer exceeding 15 million pounds or more.

  13. Celtic’s seeding will plant ambition of progress in Europe

    Monday 24 June 2013

THE long road back to the group stage of the Champions League begins in earnest for Celtic today when they discover who they will face in the second qualifying round of the competition.

Hibernian and St Johnstone also await news of their opponents at the same stage of the Europa League.

Celtic last season made it through two qualifying rounds en route to the last 16 but this time the challenge is more difficult, Neil Lennon’s side needing to negotiate three rounds of qualifying. The good news is that they will be seeded at every stage and in the easier “champions path”, meaning they will avoid opposition from the big five leagues of England, Spain, Germany, France and Italy.

Celtic could face one of 17 different opponents when the draw is made in Nyon, although in previous seasons UEFA have tended to break teams up into smaller pots just before the draw, with precedent suggesting some sort of regionalisation will be used. That could enable Celtic to avoid teams like Bosnia’s Zeljeznicar Sarajevo, the top-rated unseeded side, but could pair them instead with a British or Irish side; The New Saints of Wales, Irish club Sligo Rovers and Northern Ireland’s Cliftonville are unseeded.

A trip to Iceland or the Faroes could also be on the cards and there may be an either/or scenario for Celtic, with two first round ties yet to be played. The first leg is to take place on July 16 or 17, with the return a week later.

Hibs and St Johnstone will also discover their fate when the draw for the second qualifying round of the Europa League is made today. Teams will likely be split into smaller groups, of probably 10 teams, before the draw is made too, although at the time of writing a place in the third round – when Motherwell enter the fray – may require one of Russian’s Rubin Kazan, Standard Liege of Belgium, or Israel’s Hapoel Tel-Aviv to be overcome. The ties will be played on July 18 and 25.

Re Deloitte’s, I said that they would not react well to the talk of Chaals having their people in Leeds in his pocket.

Deloitte’s reputation as a world leader in accountancy would ensure that they would correct the impression that Chaals had saddled them with.

They are too big a brand to let some corrupt Scottish freemasons wreck them.

    —————————————————————-

That’ll be the same Deloitte that has been banned from operating in NYC for 12 months and given a 10m USD fine?

  16. Posted earlier after reading the sad news from EDB.

I was intending to stay off CQN after posting my condolences to Jim and his family…

But I feel compelled to post once more.

In quiet moments today between looking after the kids and attending to chores I realized that a number of my friends and associates have had to deal with bereavement over the last couple of weeks. I also realized, from personal experience, that while words of comfort and support are welcome and helpful, they do not remove the shock, emptiness and emotional vacuum that the loss of a loved one brings.

In the last few days a respected investigative journalist, Michael Hastings died at the age of 33. He was a true journalist, who spoke truth to power. An award winning journalist. The New York Times published an obituary that proved controversial to his friends and family. It misrepresented his work and the outcomes of his work. His wife responded…

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/06/19/michael-hastings-wife_n_3469095.html

I cannot imagine anything worse than having a recently deceased loved one being misrepresented in a published obituary, and how that would compound the pain.

Which brings me to my reason to post once again today. There is a Scottish parallel to the NYT obituary. It was only six months ago that a journalist in Scotland did something similar….

So, in answer to your question at the top of the page Paul67… Robert McElroy perhaps?

One thing I will say for The Herald, at least they published a mourning daughters dignified reply….

    http://www.heraldscotland.com/comment/obituaries/hugh-adam.19879110

The support offered today to EDB illustrates both his contribution to, and the strength of, the CQN online community.

Unfortunately one thing is for sure, elements of the MSM will use even the most unfortunate and despicable of times to spin truth, or the reputations of those who speak truth to power. That should trouble any right thinking person.

    ………………………………………………………………………………….

Dubaibhoy, I only spoke as I found them in their capacity as my auditors some years ago, and at that time they (or their Edinburgh office) were sticklers for accuracy and good book-keeping. There was no half measures.

If what you say is correct then I would imagine that the New York office will be subject to the same scrutiny and change of faces that the Leeds office will be after Chaals’s comments.

    For self-preservation if nothing else.

“Use us as your auditors and we’ll do anything you say and sign any accounts you put in front of us” won’t get a big share of the market, and Deloittes know that much at least.

The Poyet email was confidential, to sender and recipient. Chuckles dismissed Sandaza because of the content of a recorded, Sandaza did not authorise that recording or give consent for it’s distribution yet Chuckles saw fit to act, the MSM reported.

Nobody has disputed the truth of the material, as far as I’m aware nobody has demanded an enquiry into the source of the leaks. In fact, aside from internet bampots, nobody has reported nothing about anything anywhere in the MSM!!!
