Social cost of Scots exclusion

1522

You want to know the real social cost of Scottish football’s exclusion from the league structure England and Wales share?  It’s the lack of pitches, nets, strips, balls and coaching certifications that the £1bn bounty, promised by the Barclay’s Premier League last night to the grassroots game.

£1bn to the grassroots is a huge sum.  It dwarfs what taxpayers can afford and will provide a series of benefits our kids and amateur players are denied.

If we’re part of the UK, we should be part of the UK’s commercial opportunities.  Every youth team in the land are excluded because of the actions of a cartel.

What are the SFA doing about it?  Nothing.  Their plans don’t seem to require world-class youth facilities.

  1. Paul Murray should be up for the ‘business man of the year’ award. He has such a great record after all.

Anyone who says he’s just a coat tail hanging wannabe is wrong.

By the way, how many shares does he have and how much money has he put into Sevco?

It’s reported that Scottish side Celtic are on the verge of completing a deal for Brescia’s Ahmad Benali.

    Career

Benali started his career in the youth team of Manchester City, and signed his first professional contract on his 17th birthday.[1]

In 2015 Benali signed for Scottish club Celtic FC and went on to be pure amazing.

Somebody been at his wiki page??

My understanding of yesterday’s EPL announcement is that each of the 20 clubs present at yesterday’s meeting, agree en masse to contribute, or give up if you like, £50 million over the 2016-2019. Twenty times fifty of course gives you the mythical £1 billion. But wait a minute that is going to cover parachute payments to relegated clubs, and solidarity payments to both the Football League and the Conference. In other words a lot of said money will be going to some of the very clubs who voted to give it up. It will include additional money for grassroots football, new pitches etc and will also include a contribution to the away fans fund to the tune of £1 million per club per season. The last of these was the subject of the protest outside the meeting in London yesterday. The demand however is was for £5 million a season. Now you would have thought that the easiest way to reduce the costs of the tickets themselves, but that would deny the clubs themselves of a nice little earner!

One thing is for sure though, they’re all gonna be there for that £billion dollar bash.

PAUL MURRAY has revealed that he is studying the internal structures of clubs all over Europe in an attempt to draw up a blueprint for the future operation of the football department at Rangers.

Murray, the interim chairman, feels there is a need to show that the Ibrox club can become a modern, progressive organisation following a spell in which much of the focus has been on his credentials along with those of Dave King and John Gilligan as supporters and the return of ‘Rangers men’ to the boardroom.

King did speak at length about restoring the traditions of the club in the wake of the extraordinary general meeting that saw him and his group sweep to power, but he also detailed the club’s need to have a coach with a wide-ranging remit that would involve developing young players rather than an old-school manager.

“We really value Rangers’ traditions, the standards of behaviour and the values that we have had over 143 years, but what we have got to do is maintain those traditions and values and build a modern football club on top of those foundations,” said Murray.

“People have talked about going back to Rangers men on the board and back to the Rangers way of doing things.

“I think we have got to be a bit more forward-thinking. I am looking a lot at the structure of various clubs and trying to get a sense of what would work at Rangers.

“There are different structures in Europe and even in Britain. The structure at Barcelona might not be appropriate for Rangers. We have to look at all that.

“There is a rebuilding job here and it is going to take time to make us competitive and I think it will be a three-to-five-year project to get Rangers back competing in Europe.”

Stuart McCall has been given the manager’s job until the end of the season and Murray has stated that he will be a contender for the role on a permanent basis.

“We are not out looking for candidates at the moment,” he said. “Stuart McCall is in the position and we are 110 per cent supportive of him. He would obviously be a candidate going forward.”

King has not yet taken up a seat on the board with the club talking to the Scottish Football Association about his position as a ‘fit and proper person’ under their rules.

“We want to rebuild the relationship with all the football governing bodies and we have to respect their processes and procedures,” said Murray. “These things have to be looked at properly and carefully.”

Murray has confirmed that Mike Ashley, the Newcastle United owner, has the right to place two of his men on the plc board at Rangers, but he stated that the club’s former chief executive, Charles Green, would not be making a return following comments made in a bizarre newspaper interview last weekend.

However, Murray has made it clear that Rangers do not need any more money from Ashley or the leisurewear company he founded, Sports Direct, after agreeing a £1.5m loan from the Three Bears consortium of George Letham, Douglas Park and George Taylor.

“The view of the board is that we can pursue our own funding solution without the need to go back to Sports Direct,” said Murray. “We have had no discussions with Sports Direct or Mike Ashley so far, but, as we have said before, we are happy to engage with Sports Direct and I think we should.

“We need to have that conversation at some point very soon.”

Murray admits there also has to be a conversation with the former manager, Ally McCoist, who remains on gardening leave on his estimated £825,000-a-year salary.

“We haven’t really addressed it so far as there have too many other priorities, but we need to sit down with Ally and his representatives and try to deal with that,” he said.

Murray admits no Nomad as he pleads with the SFA

    Date: 27th March 2015 at 6:15 pm

Written by: Joe McHugh | Comments (0)

Dave King Paul Murray has admitted that Sevco aren’t likely to find a NOMAD and has pleaded with the SFA to ignore their rules to allow Dave King to join him on a new look board of directors.

The evening before the EGM Mr King promised a NOMAD within days after WH Ireland had walked out on Sevco but the company that runs the club has only got four more working days to find a NOMAD or be de-listed from the Alternative Investment Market.

Mr Murray was a director of Rangers until May 2011 with Mr King remaining on the board until liquidation in June 2016. According to SFA regulations anyone on the board of a club in the two years prior to liquidation is barred from holding office in another club for five years.

Speaking to the club’s TV station today Mr Murray admitted: “The decision taken by WH Ireland, the previous NOMAD, to resign on March 4 triggered a suspension of the club’s shares on the AIM market on that day and you then, under that regulation, have 30 days to lift that suspension.

“There are two separate issues here, firstly the nomad replacing the previous nomad, which we are in discussions to try and do but there is also the AIM regulator as well and they have to be satisfied with the company and the procedures around the company.

“We have until April 4 to do that but that timescale wasn’t to our choosing, it was actually forced upon us by the resignation of WH Ireland and we’re working very hard to comply with that timescale.

“We have said all along that Rangers International Football Club is a public company and that decision was taken some time ago, whether it should be a listed company is another question.

“We have said that we will endeavour to have the listing restarted and have the suspension lifted so that is what we will do and that is the plan we have.”

With it highly unlikely than any Nominated Adviser will deal with the toxic combination of Mr King, who was described as a glib and shameless liar by a South African judge in a case in which he was handed 41 two year prison terms, and Sevco attention will turn to the SFA to see if they overturn their own rules on liquidation.

In any discussions one of the first questions that should be put to Mr Murray and Mr King would be why they didn’t object to the £5m spending spree in 2010 to bring in NiKICA Jelavic and James Beattie when the club owed HMRC £6m for the wee tax case going back a decade to the payments made to Tore Andre Flo, Craig Moore and Ronald de Boer.

Looking to that issue Mr Murray said: “The processes regarding both mine and Dave’s fit and proper persons test are pretty advanced.

“We have said, and we will honour the fact that, we want to rebuild the relationship with all the governing bodies and we have to respect their processes and procedures and we will do that.

“One of them is fit and proper test for all the directors, not just Dave and I but also the two Johns and James Blair.

“That process is ongoing, there is a lot of due diligence that the SFA have to do and we respect that these things have to be done properly and gone through carefully.

“We expect to get an answer at some point in the near future. One of the reasons Dave chose not to go on the board was because we wanted to respect those processes.”

Should Mr King and Mr Murray both become directors it leaves the door open for HMRC to go after a phoenix company for the £20m unpaid at the time of liquidation as well as the ongoing appeal over the Big Tax Case.
